Asante on the market

Dude is like the Max Lane of defense...

all he does is lose superbowls

I remember reading about his whining and how the Patriots/Boston media 'hated' him. How Ty Law was considered great but yet the media called him a cover 2 CB.

Sure. Why not. I mean, he only irreparably damaged my psyche & mental well-being forever with his Bill Buckner impression, so why wouldn't I want him back. I can't wait. Let's get him.

I hate you for reminding me.

Wasn't there a trade deadline that passed at 3:00 PM ET?

No, but there was one that passed at 3:00PM Central time (or 4PM ET) so we are through with trade talk and Asante talk until March...when Asante will likely be a UFA...

CANCER ! remember this P.O. S. for tanking us.   Sorry, but his actions are UNFORGIVABLE ! dIE....

Asante: "I'd have to get up pretty high to get that ball!"
Jack Burns: "I'll bet you would there Panama Red"

In a deal that actually happened, the Eagles traded Ronnie Brown to the Lions for Jerome Harrison and a 2013 7th round pick.

Who are the big money players on this team besides the QB?Whats Wilfork making?

I've seen your posts questioning how The New England Patriots spend their money in the hard-cap NFL. The Patriots try to pay 53 guys competitive salaries and have depth at every position. In a 16-game season plus playoffs, the decision to have as much quality as possible throughout the depth chart means you must let big ticket guys go, invest where you perceive value, restructure guys who want to stay and do not tie up your money in a small number of guys. Like every team they have hits and misses.

Players who leave for their last pro contract often leave with gratitude for the opportunity with the Patriots. Their last contract is about longer-term financial security and they often wind up with teams who are not as disciplined as the Patriots, Steelers, Colts and, until this year, Eagles. Guys like Damien Woody and Deion Branch spring immediately to mind who tested free agency, found a lucrative market, and left without rancor.

It works. From 2000 to 2009, the Patriots won more regular season games (112) than every team except for the Indianapolis Colts (115) and appeared in more playoffs (7) than every team except for the Eagles (8) and the Colts (9). That includes 2008 when they went 11-5 and missed out on a tie breaker (a record number of wins for a non-playoff team.)

Only four teams won 100 or more games from 2000 to 2009: Colts, Patriots, Steelers and Eagles. In that span the Patriots won more Super Bowls than any other team and appeared in more Super Bowls than any other team.

In 2010, the Patriots had the best record in the NFL regular season and were favored in the playoffs. Overall: best record over 11 years. We are fortunate to follow this team at this time.

In answer to your question about who gets paid what, check out the column Total Cap Figure to see who get's what on this team here:

To the posters on this board who help with this data, thank you.

LOL. I remember him getting burned BADLY in SB 38 on a double move to Rickey Phoel for the Panthers TD to tie the game 29 all. He wasn't part of the reason we were in the SB's. Brady was, the D line was and the Linebackers.

Who was on Muhammad? Different player different play... Longest TD in SB History

Jahvid Best concussion insurance for the Lions.

Good lord I can't believe all the hate on Asante on that play! The guy was jumping as high as he could with his arms stretched out as far as he could get them and the tips of his fingers are scraping the bottom half of the football. That ball was damn near impossible to catch. You people are acting like it bounced off his facemask :(

. . . and no I'm not Asante's mother ;)

Maybe we can get Chad Brown and Monty Beisel to play LB for us again, too. We can get them pretty cheap, I bet.

(That's sarcasm.)

When you act like you're the man (with a "get paid" tattoo, no less)... it tends to draw criticism.

The tattoo should read "get played" because, Asante isn't as good as he apparently thinks he is. Maybe the dumb bastard could have learned to tackle before he becomes a prima donna sack of **** !

Wilfork is the highest paid NT in the game and got a 6 year deal to boot. Mankins is one of the highest paid Guards in the game. We have the top 1 or 2 paid players at 3 positions. If you would learn more about the Pats before you posted, you might add insight some day.

Wow I really can't believe my opinion is so unpopular on this matter.

I don't think you should be that surprised. It has never been popular to sign a guy who has a large price tag to this team and also give up a pick for them. Especially a guy so easy to spot flaws in as Samuel is. Yes he has fantastic ball skills i don't think anyone can say he doesn't. But he is a gambler and he either wins big with the pick or can lose very big with an easy TD

We don't need them when we can sign Adam Seward!!! :rocker:

So I have a $10 Lowes gift card if the eagles are interested. It's expiring soon, so jump on this soon Andy Reid.

The Bears will no doubt make a play for Asante where he can play in front of his little bro.--Brandon. What a tandem-- just like Lawyer and Ty--

Oh man. I can see it. Shamuel goes for the pick and fails, gets burned, Meri goes to cover him and takes the wrong angle, misses the WR and launches his helmet into Shamuel. Both give up a td.

This could be a recurring scenario over and over again. :D
