Making it impossible to play defense

the pats jumped out to a 21 to 0 lead the defense was stoping the bills but the pats had a few 3 and outs that put the defense right back on the field if this team starts running the football with a lead they will not have any 4QT meltdowns

Amen brother ! BB are you listening

The roughing the passer call really pissed me off when i saw it on replay cause Love was CLEARLY stopping himself and jsut bumped helmets with fitz cause they are the same height and the Pi call in the endzone was BS too cause brown was stopped nad was tryingto get out of the way the WR grabbed around him to get the call.

Yes if Brady doesn't through 4 picks the game is diffrent and yes 2 of them were luck ones and the other 2 were very good playes by the DBs the ends diffrently but the bills are not as bad as everyont htought they would be

Turnovers are the single most important factor in determining the outcome of a game in the NFL. If you lose the turnover battle and throw a "pick six", you have a very small chance of winning.

Why patsfans.com continues with the endless drowning of idiot defense threads is beyond comprehension.

24 points came off of turnovers.

I agree, but this thread was never meant to disect the defense of the Patriots vs the Bills. This thread is my attempt to get Roger Goodell fired, to get the Refs to call an even game, to take the judgement out of the rules regarding roughing the passer, to eliminate the defenseless reciever rules and apply the rule as was applied a few years ago. The new NLF sucks, it is a boring game of pitch and catch and it will only get worse.

I have to bring people back to the defenseless reciever rule and ask for an explanation of how a DB is supposed to avoid helmet to helmet hits when the reciever is the last guy to move in the collission? A player dives to make a tackle and dislodge the ball, the reciever see the collission coming and cringes trying to ball his body up to take the contact, he ducks his head and what used to be the middle of the recievers stomach is now the recievers chin. Yet, it is the DB who gets the 15 yards, like there is a way to reverse the physiscs of an object in motion, or the idea that a DB has to allow a reciever to catch the ball and turn toward him before he can hit the reciever, or the inconsistent application of the roughing the QB rule.

The NFL and its competition and executive committees have undertaken a crusade to fundementally change the way the NFL plays its game, and it is BORING! If I want to see pitch and catch, I can play Madden. It is a better game than today's NFL is in regard to the application of the rules.

Watched a lot of football this weekend and the officiating in most games were horrible. Football is starting to be almost as unwatchable as basketball

The Colts defense played a hell of a game yesterday with basically just two guys (Freeney and Mathis) dominating the game.

Defense can be played if you put enough pressure both in the passing game and running game.

I actually disagree with this notion that it was great defense in that game on either side.

If this is the game that NFL fans have through 3 weeks to point to as a defensive game than we are in trouble.

What did we really see in this game?

We saw a game played with Back up QBs on one side and we saw a game played with 5 healthy O-linemen and even 4 at times on the other side.

So yes it did look defensive but when you look at why it is easy to see.

Freeney and Mathis beating up on second and 3rd string linemen is not really great defense.

All this and there were still 40 something points scored between the two.

through 3 weeks of football only 8 times has a team been held to less than a double digit score.

compared to 58 times a team has scored 20 or more. And a whopping 22 times a team has scored more than 30 and at least 8 times has the 35 point mark been crossed.

A big part of the problem is the inconsistency from 1 officiating crew to another. How can a team play almost penalty free one week and then get repeatedly flagged for ticky-tacky calls the next. Not surprisingly these tend to be PI and roughing / unsportmanlike conduct calls where there is some subjectivity involved. If the league wants to call these so be it but the penalties that result are game changing and need to be re-visited because no game should be won or lost because of a referee's whistle. There should be no automatic 1st down, impose the yardage penalty and replay the down. PI should be a yardage penalty and since the league seems bound and determined to make sure that DB's can't do their jobs make it 20 yards but no 1st down, just replay it.
