Last year he had 6"4' Randy Moss to practice against in training camp, pre-season, and the first few weeks of the season. He gained comfort in defending taller receivers by practicing against Moss last year. (Asomugha also earned his stripes while covering Moss in practice while they were in Oakland)

This year, he is practicing against Welker/Branch. Midgets by todays NFL Wide Receiver standards. Perhaps this is why he's having bigger issues against tall WR's this year.

Sure, Brandon Marshall and Vincent Jackson are both very good players. But McCourty covered Marshall 2 games last year and didn't have any terrible games last year.

Therefore, sign Randy Moss to the practice squad?

He also played more zone last year (and in college too I believe) and this year he is playing more man coverage, that could be another reason for it.

But you also have to take into account Jackson was on fire and was nigh on impossible to cover and Marshall was held in check for the most part, he just had a couple of plays.

I haven't been thrilled with any corners for awhile now:bricks:

It's the change from zone to man along with no proper training camp, tall receivers that are 5-6 inches taller than him and maybe perhaps a sophomore slump.

If you look at a lot of the plays, he's right there in coverage but does turn and look for the ball like last year. That's an easily correctable problem. Plus, if Ras-I can get on the field and get some experience, he'll probably be put on the taller WR's since he's taller than McCourty.

Maybe Molden will see some action sunday. He's 6'1''. I'm curious to see what he can do. Anybody have any comments on his abilities?

In the SD game, that we took out Gates, at the expense of leaving McCourty 1-1 with Jackson... things will be more obvious when we stop the run of all stars that we saw in the first two weeks.

Really too early to tell at this time... covering Marshall and Jackson 1-1 is a difficult task.

Start Rob Grokowski at corner. = Problem solved:youtheman:

Rivers to Jackson can torch any defense, Dolphins game was clearly a fluke.

McCourty isn't untouhable no corner is and therefore this doesn't shock me, I also have high confidence in him having another high quality year so two games means nothing to me.

I wouldn't worry about McCourty, there is only so much he can do when you have no pass rush for his entire 18 game career. That's the issue they can't hit a QB for jack.

I thought his future hall of fame induction was a little premature last year. He struggled some early, then had a great streak and really went at it aggressively. He's taking a while to get into a groove, but if you consider him a fine second year corner, instead of a faltering former sure thing, he's doing fine IMO.

he is still a kid... he isnt a great, or elite corner, and this is obvious. give him time. he has played in like 20 NFL games.

I think people are blowing this out of proportion, he was supposed to have a pick in the Miami game but he dropped it, and another in the San Diego game but Vjax made a amazing play, if he had made those play i doubt that this would ever be brought up.

he's not very good I don't like him.

He's really gonna have to step it up since his bro has just got his 2nd INT of the season!

“I think Devin’s done a lot of good things for us. He’s really probably played as well as anybody we’ve had on defense,” said Belichick on a conference call with the media. “As always there are plays we’d all like to have back and do better on and all that, so Devin’s very competitive. He sets very high goals and standards for himself. I’m sure he feels that way too. He’s certainly one of our best players."

Bill Belichick

The other teams have exposed a weakness in his game at this point. It's not just all receivers. He's getting beat on the double move every time. I'd have to look at the film but there's a definite weakness that teams are exposing.
