Announced Patriots cuts: countdown to 53

He isnt faster than Price. IIRC one of those was a deep pass and 2 others were catch and runs.
Regardless, the original suggestion was that we would be using Slater as our deep threat. I think its safe to say thats quite a stretch. Arguing over whether he caught 1 or 2 long passes against guys who were cut today isnt really pertinent. We know the one that just happened in game 4 was a crossing route with run after the catch, not a fly.

Ok, you're the second person that has said Price is faster. I readily admit that the statement I made that Slater is by far the fastest receiver on the team is not accurate. Price is right up there with him.

When you say Slater is not faster than Price, what do you base that on? Both had similar 40 times, and I have no idea how to watch two guys in two separate scenarios and judge incremental speed differences. What are you going on here?

And yeah, I agree that Slater is not currently a primary deep threat, and there's no reason to think he will be, other than his speed. He's Slater, the special teams guy, who Brady never throws to. But I do think he does have the potential to be that guy if whatever unknown factors work themselves out.

While we're on the topic, let me ask you, do you know, what, exactly Slater lacks as a receiver? Because I don't, all I see on TV is the ball not being throw to him. It's hard for me to draw any conclusion from that.

Re: Yeatman cut

I actually heard he bought a Bowflex and a Nordic Tread climber
He is also doing the Insanity program (it is max-interval training) from beachbody.com so he can stay in tip top shape.:p

where did you get your info from?

Now that the cuts are over when I am I supposed to bring up that Hoyer trade you were touting? :D

LB (8) Jerod Mayo, Brandon Spikes, Gary Guyton, Jermaine Cunningham, Rob Ninkovich, Dane Fletcher, Tracy White, Jeff Tarpinian
CB (6) Devin McCourty, Leigh Bodden, Kyle Arrington, Darius Butler, Ras-I Dowling, Antwaun Molden
FS (2) Sergio Brown, James Ihedibgo
SS (2) Patrick Chung, Josh Barrett

One of the worst groups in the league overall?

I take you off of my ignore list and four hours later this is how you repay me??

Ctpatsfan77 made a good point by suggesting using Solder as the third TE and here's another one that wasn't mentioned- Steve Maneri who actually was a TE in college. Still I'm thinking Crumpler now.

Not saying they will do that, for the record, but it certainly seems like an option.

You bring up a great point that its hard to judge from TV. You couldn't tell on TV the difference between Jerry Rice and Brandon Tate unless one made great catches or runs after the catch, if they both got the ball thrown equally to them.
I would assume he can beat a jam since he is a gunner. I haven't seen enough of him to judge his hands. From what Ive seen, Slater isn't as crisp in his routes, in and out of his cuts as a good NFL WR would be.

Basically there is a skill in getting open that he seems to not have a great deal of.

With the given of the TV angle issue, I think you do have to base a lot of it on playing time, production and whether he is open when he's out there (judged by whether he gets the ball usually)
Of course, I am of the belief that the distinguishing factor between the production of many WRs is the opportunities they get.

I would estimate that 20% of the NFL WRs are significantly better and create their own production, 20% are significantly worse and struggle at the fundamentals, and the 60% in between are somewhat interchangable and production depends more on their situation than ability.

Wow. And how often does that happen. Usually the guys that are available are the Delta Oneal's of the world. Rarely is a Rodney Harrison available. And the Harrison's of the world are usually cut after the season for cap reasons, not at the final cuts.

Apparently it happens more than you give it credit for. If you're going to talk in absolutes, be able to back it up. Your first post was stated as an absolute. Your second post (this one) already shows you're backing down from your stance.

Not sure why you're arguing that "Rarely is a Rodney Harrison available". I said that we were NOT likely to find anyone on RH's level. So bringing that up is just repeating what I've already said.

If we find someone who has 60% of what Rodney brought, it will likely be an upgrade over what the team has. In that case, the team has improved which proves your original statement (officially) as wrong.

Gronk's brother is available for that 3rd TE spot. ;)

Yes, welcome indeed. But if that pointless back-and-forth stimulates you to join in ...

Consider yourself a UDFA who hustled his way onto the roster.

:welcome:

You definitely make it!

:welcome:

So, Meriweather goes as the biggest surprise and Tarpinian/Molden/Ihedibgo would be the most likely to get cut if/when another player is brought aboard.

That seem about right to people?

I'm gonna be honest. I would not be surprised at all to see Tarpinian lining up at safety for the Pats...

Always room for a guy with a non-stop motor. Love your screen name.

Re: Yeatman cut

Yeatman and Smith did not impress me... I admit that I want Crumpler back even though I dissed him (mostly age and contract) The 2 rookies underperformed in my book and I would welcom Crumpler back ASAP say week 2.

I also once said the drop off from Smith to Yeatman was not much... lets bring back the old fella w/ experience a guy that had a gr8 yr last yr. I do wonder if BB had this all planned out and figured if the 2 were unimpressive they would be waived b/c the demand is really not much. Maybe some TE needy team will snatch 1.. I unfortunately suspect that to occur

WOW.. you really changed your tune.. You were one of the guys touting Yeatman like he was the next best thing since sliced bread...

Re: Yeatman cut

Cassel is screwed...

There were quite a few TEs let go today. I wouldn't be surprised to see Desmond Clark signed by the Chiefs.. Or Donte Rosario..

Speaking of this, I have not seen brother OTG on this thread. Have emergency personnel been dispatched?

And I liked Yeatman, hope he makes it to the PS.

Rosario << Moeaki.

I believe both of Gronk's brother's are available...

Hmm...and we have no FB on the roster. I don't think we ever use one, though...
