Bethea. Ryan Clark maybe. TJ Ward maybe. Eric Wedtle.

Power Rankings: Top 10 NFL safeties - AFC North Blog - ESPN

Has Wilson #4 overall.

Only other on the list is Bethea.

I'd agree that Weddle is a damn good safety, I'm not sure that he's in Wilson's category.

Ward is a bright up and comer (IIRC). Clark--solid, but not in their league IMO.

Here's a current USAToday poll with Wilson #5 also. (they also mention Clark I believe)

Oh, I was just talking about FS. That's what I'm assuming BB will bring in. IMHO, Pats have two SS in Brown and Chung and one FS in Brandon. They need to bring in a semi FS/semi TE buster to deal with TE's like Gates, Keller, Dallas etc.

My bad, brother.

Too bad that McGowan couldn't play up to his start of the 2009 season. I remember we had a poll for defensive 1st half MVP, and McGowan won easily. Then he went on to have a somewhat lackluster 2nd half, even lousy at times.

I wonder if he's on the infamous "shadow roster" that we hear about?

Prob. Helps that no other team hasn't even signed him. I'll prob add Sharper on that list too.
I think Dane might be decent in covering TE's but I've never seen him do so. He usually covered speedy RB's like Sporles and Rice. Did an excellent job at that. He's got a decent height on him.

Could Gary Guyton play strong safety? He's fast and supposed to be good in coverage.

When Don Davis played there, he had been an LB.

I hate Guyton, but tell me why I want so see this at least once.

Belichick should aggressively pursue Ed Reed. We have the cap space. Reed wants a ring. Belichick greatly admires him.

Make it happen Bill.

First of all, I think Reed is pretty happy chasing his ring where he's at, especially considering the recent competitiveness of his current team.

Since we all know that Reed is currently under contract with the BAL Ravens, what would you propose in trade compensation? (Just out of curiousity)

Reed is also nearing the end of his career, and I doubt we'd ever pay anyone at the position that kind of money anyway. I could think of many other younger and cheaper safeties that would provide better value, but I do like your way of thinking in regards to needing one more player to push us over the edge. I just don't see a top-notch guy like Reed being that player.

Weddle isn't available. Didn't he just sign a huge contract to stay in SD. Something like 5years/$50M.

No, there was absolutely zero talk about any possible Adrian Wilson trade, besides one time a couple of yrs ago when DW Toys brought up the idea via pure speculation.

Wilson is clearly a top 5 safety in the league, hands down. No doubt he would've made us better..much better. The problem is that much like his teammate (Larry Fitzgerald) people seem to forget that we are not entitled to every good player in the NFL. The ARZ Cardinals were clearly committed to both Wilson and Fitzgerald from day one, as they are their best offensive and defensive players without a doubt.

There's no way that ARZ would have let Wilson go, especially for your proposed trade of an additional 5th rounder!!! For Meriweather?? I think Meriweather is worth somewhere around a 3rd/4th rounder by himself, but you are greatly underappreciating the value of Adrian Wilson.

FWIW--he's hanging on for dear life with a torn biceps injury. Most early reports had him being out for a long, extended period of time, possibly even the entire yr. He's supposedly going to at least 'try' to battle and play through it, so we will see. He is certainly a great safety, and like you said--tough and smart.

Good catch. I have been wishing AW as a Pat for a few years. He was in a contract issue then. He is the only realistic Harrison type that might be in BB's radar. Smart, athletic, team leader. When he resigned last year I thought we missed the boat. I'd rather have him with the injury out there playing than BM to be honest and I like BM. I just think Wilson brings more to the table than wacking WRs.

It might be a good plan to throw a Merriweather at them if medical can clear Wilson to play as injured. It might make sense.

Would BB take that gamble? Has he brought in injured players and signed them longer term? Yes...See Josh Barrett. I know it is not the same but I still think Wilson toughs it out for the whole year. Marcus Cannon is a medical and Gronk and Tate are some other injured players BB took a shot at because of "value". It is not unfeasible and the Cards might bite on Merriweather with the injury to Wilson. Was not Branch very much damaged goods coming from Seattle and we all knew he had to play? Don't say BB would not do it. It is how extensive the Wilson injury as far as limitation. They might bite.

Meanwhile, back in the real world....

Don't worry next year Bill will draft 5 safeties and one of them should work out.

Well why don't you actually look these things up. I refuse to do your research you con everybody else into doing.
It's there.Look. I don't write this crap.
They want Mitchell and Huff to start. They just paid Huff to come back and Mitchell is Al's first rounder.Whether Mitchell is better than Branch or not is irrelevant.
They also have another young kid they like as well (look him up too).
DW Toys

P.S. Branch has been playing F.S. (look it up as well). Depends on the grouping.

Mike Mitchell was a 2nd round pick, not a 1st rounder... Yes, you do write this crap...

As JB said, YOU are the one who made the claim, it's your responsibility to provide the supporting links..

I know he did. I was ranking FS in no particular order.

That's my fault. I was wrongly lumping in both safety positions, rather than just the apparent FS that we need.

Ninja was providing me a short list of guys that were decent at the position.

Weddle would've been a great pickup had he not re-signed with SD, although I am not sure that we could've/would've matched that kind of money.

My guess is that we'll either grab up someone's cut (which goes back to the thoughts on the release of Sanders..it was obviously about the money), or just sign one of either Sharper/McGowan (pure speculation of course). Just an opinion.

It may not even be an issue for the immediate present future, until someone gets dinged up.

I stand corrected on the Mitchell first round. Bey was their #1 at seven.

But I won't do you job either. I found it . Look it up yourself. Anyone else but you two wizards I would be more than glad to send the link. You guys think you are entitled. So....look it up yourself.

My responsibility? What are you, the Link Police? Ya ...o.k.

YOU made the claim that the Raiders were looking to move Branch. It's up to YOU to provide evidence to support your claim.

You can tell other people to find it for themselves, but all that does is give people the impression that you're full of it. As if we really needed anything more to arrive at that conclusion.
