Edelman Now A Lock

Yeah, but the Pats need him to be more than just a special teamer. The Pats had depth at WR issues last year. Luckily neither Welker or Branch got hurt. You can't count of Branch being healthy an entire season again. His history tells you he will miss games. Edelman needs to pick up the offensive part of his game because unlike last year, they may need him to step up and play a big role in the offense for a game or two.

The other thing to note about 2009 is that the Pats basically had dogs— at TE, and their base set for throwing the ball was a 3-WR set. Last year, though, with GRONKnandez on the field, they ran a heck of a lot of 2-WR sets, which didn't leave nearly as much room for Edelman to get on the field.

I love watching Edelman with the ball.

It seems like everytime he has it, he looks like he is about to go all the way....

IMO...his rookie year was fantastic...and that created great expectations...which he did not get the chance to realize last year...but the kid is fun to watch...a very shifty and smart player....

Agreed,

Now contrast how Tate looks every time he has the ball or flails his arms vainly reaching somewhere near it. Too bad as I confess I was really high on him when drafted.

Neither do I but right now I prefer Wilhite to Butler. Wilhite does more (yeah..i know) with less talent than Butler. Butler is on his own island. He has talent but does jack squat with it. Gets beat by everyone including 3rd stringers.
Fact is Butler was our best corner Saturday night.

1. Welker - The go to guy.
2. Branch - A solid # 2.
3. Ocho - It may take a while, but I think he will shine.
4. Edelman - Great speed. The "Heir Apparent" to Welker.
5. Price - Hes shown some skills this year.
6. ?

Slater Mr Versitility!

I didn't think that Edelman was a lock at the outset--I figured that he and Tate were likely competing for a roster spot--but it certainly looks like he is now. There are ongoing concerns re: his durability, but he's been pretty good, and Tate has been awful.

I pretty much thought that he was a lock the whole time, but many disagreed with that theory too. I think that he seems to have worked a little harder this offseason with TB in trying to get some chemistry and trust.

That, and until the Welker contract situation is resolved, Edelman should be retained. I do agree that he had a harder time seeing the field last yr due to the change in offensive philosophy with the emergence of the TE's, the release of Moss, and the effectiveness of Woodhead/BJGE.

Not being sarcastic, but is there any chance at all that Edelman could possibly return some kickoffs in addition to the punts? I have considered this before when they changed the kickoff rule, which could make Tate expendable. Obviously we have plenty of other KO return options, but I wondered if anyone else considered this at all?

It seems a bit strange that at the end of the 09 season Edelman was considered such a bright spot for the future here, and then a couple of drops and a hard time seeing the field last yr seemed to change so many people's minds.

Edelman will see the field more this year. I think he is the next Wes Welker, just needs more looks. He'll see the field more I'm sure this year.
