Yes, it was only a preseason game and the Bucs looked totally unprepared to play. As fans, we get excited and can overreact to things like what happened last night.

But look at the quotes from various league executives in Greg Bedard's column this morning ...

For depth, they may be in league of their own - The Boston Globe

The Bucs not only looked overmatched, but woefully unprepared.

Took a while for BB to get all the "toys" he needed to get to this spot, from a complete revamping of the secondary and not having to rely on two way players or the Hank Poteats of the world. To getting speedy D line..

This team is being rebuilt for the long haul, before our eyes and they are not missing a beat.

The potential rotation amongst the DLine looks absolutely scary.

Two guys who caught my eye....Myron Pryor is freaky fast for a guy his size and Gerard Warren looks like a player reborn when he's one gapping.

Here's one for our draftniks:

“All of those guys, all the way down to [Landon] Cohen, [Darryl] Richard, and [Kade] Weston, will be playing somewhere in this league, I promise you that,’’ said the AFC executive. “I don’t know how they’re going to figure that out. Do you know? Because I want to get a jump on getting those guys on my team.’’

I know, I know... it don't mean nothin', it's loose talk in a press box. But that's got to be a good sign (if we really want to look at pre-season performances for signs.)

It was great to see an aggressive penetrating hitting defense.....and I will enjoy us giving a variety of quarterbacks the beating of there lives on the field ......game after game ...... :singing:

Yeah, D-Line pretty good last night. But if only they could add a couple of players, maybe like Albert Haynesworth and Shaun Ellis, that would be even better.

Oh wait ...

re: Bedard NFL Scout Quote: "Belichick is through screwing around"

Us fans have to prepare to see several of our DL binkies playing for enemy teams after the final cut

re: Bedard NFL Scout Quote: "Belichick is through screwing around"

I have a feeling ...Ellis and Haynesworth are going to start to make appearances .....next week....to give the upstart Lions...a beat-down

I also get the feeling that Brady is incredibly focused. He's in his prime, knows that won't last forever and wants rings 4, 5 & 6 to showcase the greatest dynasty of all time.

Yeah, in a way it'll be disappointing to see guys like Deaderick and Brace get cut (hard to see them making it), maybe a few others. Seems to be a good collection of young DL gathered up over the past few years and a lot of us have hope for their development. But if the trade-off is getting guys like Haynesworth, Carter, Ellis, GWarren to anchor things for a couple of years while Brady's still in his prime, so be it.

re: Bedard NFL Scout Quote: "Belichick is through screwing around"

Did Bedard make a reporters mistake in this article in potentially revealing his source? Throughout the article he uses the ambiguous references to "Executives" and "Scouts", but once in the article he has a quote about Mayo where Bedard references the quote using "said Joseph"

I didn't see him mention who this was, but I suppose someone clever might be able to identify the Scout/Executive. Probably innocuous, but I am surprised this would get past Bedard and his editor.

I think it was a post-game quote from guard Davin Joseph

Remember those draft picks Bill traded for Ochocinco and Haynesworth? Yeah, he's getting them back. If there really are 15 teams interested in some of these D-line men who won't make the squad, then Bill will be able to trade them for draft picks. :rocker:

Denver is scrambling after losing a couple of DL the other day.

Well said Tio Rio :) The time is NOW help TFB when he is still in his prime years. :rocker: late prime is still prime. Elway didn't win his 2 rings until he was what age??? I rest my case:)

Yeah, that was Davin Joseph. I saw Rapoport out Caserio as his source once though.

"A league source..."
"Caserio also said..."

He's talking about the Bucs player Davin Joseph who gave kudos to the Pats defense. I think thats the best praise you can get, from playres on the other team who admits how good you were. The Pats defense sounds scary good at this point in the preseason.

You wanted some PASSRUSHERS?? We got us some PASSRUSHERS!!! Andre Carter, what a steal huh? BB up to his wily evil genius tricks again. He's rebuilt the Pats front 7 overnight, effectuated a more aggressive scheme, and VOILA! Instant PASSRUSH! The mad genius has done it again. The secondary hardly had to do any work, the front 7 was making it so easy for tem with the disruption up front.

re: Bedard NFL Scout Quote: "Belichick is through screwing around"

I think the key here is going to be the depth. Lets face it, 6-4 300lbs men can only go full steam for one or two plays max. But if you have ten of those guys, then you can switch them in and out and someone is always fresh. The story here is how many does he keeps and who....

I say no question these guys are staying:

Wilfork, Hanesworth, Andre Carter, Warren, Eric Moore.

I think that Pryor and Love are pretty much there too.

Did anyone miss Cunnigham last night? I didn't think so...

I'm thinking that he will hide Deaderick and Brace on the PUP list, maybe Ellis too. but there is some serious DL talent that will not make the team.....Hopefully BB can tunr them into late round draft picks.

re: Bedard NFL Scout Quote: "Belichick is through screwing around"

Before we crown every single DL from last night a pro-bowler, maybe the possibility should be considered that Tampa Bay isn't a very good team, and we blitzed more often than usual last night.

I'm not saying it wasn't a dominating performance, but I'm withholding judgment on the pass rush until I see it close out a game against a decent team.

Don't forget, the Vikings defense came out of the gate with incredible pressure at the beginning of the game last season. By the end of the game, they were gassed and it showed.

If Belichick manages to come up with a roster that can field a relatively fresh DL in the 4th quarter while maintaining coverage on the back end, I will be happier than Ellis Hobbs after a meaningless tackle.

And they will not play as well somewhere else as they played here, McKenzie looked seriously overmatched last night... not that he played all that well here either.
