Dan Pompei: Either OchoCinco or Haynesworth will be cut

Is there a chance that one of them is cut? Yes. Ty Warren was cut and that came out of left field for us, so there are always surprises in store for us fans with this front office and BB. Will at least one of them be cut? Probably not. Haynesworth's contract has a very low base and his pay is heavily graduated based upon number of snaps played. It's reasonable to be concerned that he's not out there, but how often do they take the time to restructure a contract just to kick the player to the curb? Plus, the argument can be made that we're seeing a visible shift in the defense (perhaps not as dramatic as some might think), but the argument can be made.

As for OchoCinco and the WR position, one of the most obvious positions of concern on an otherwise solid offense is WR. The scenario that Branch, one of our most productive players (#3 in total yards behind BJGE and Welker), goes down and misses significant playing time is real. If so, then is Tate the person we want stepping into the #1 role? We're not even sure he should be playing #2. So having Chad becomes all the more critical, especially with very green WR's in Tate and Price.

The Deion Branch speculation might have a little more merit. With his pay and injury concerns, there could be reason to give him the boot especially if BB wants to keep both Price and Tate.

So is there a chance that one of the two acquired players will be cut? Sure, there's always a chance, in the same way that anything's possible. But we know how much BB loves cheap veterans.

Nobody knows what BB is going to do from one day to another. How many times have you logged onto the board and said "WTF???" I highly doubt Pompei, or any of his sources, have any insight into what BB will do next.

Brady is on the trading block because Hoyer can mentor Mallet. Jerod Mayo is considering retirement. Kevin Faulk is trying out at CB because it is thinner than RB.

Can be your source?:singing:

With the huge numbers of DLinemen in camp now, it's obvious we're going to go to the "really big nickel" with Vince at safety.

Don't laugh (or do it's okay)...

Practice squad wide receiver C.J. Jones knows Wilfork as well as anyone on the roster. The two grew up together in Florida - "We had the same bus stop," Jones said - and Jones remembers Wilfork 's days as a skill player.

"He was everything," Jones said. "He played quarterback in high school, kickoff returner, punter, running back. He was on the big man 4x100 relay team. He was the state champ in the shot put. He did everything, man.

"He's a skill man trapped in a big man's body."
Boston Herald (MA) - Thursday, December 20, 2007
Quote:
"When I got him, you knew right away he could play. He was 250 or 260 pounds and so agile, quick, nimble and light on his feet. He was one of the top three athletes on the team. He could throw and punt. He was just a fabulous athlete."

In almost Troy Brown-like fashion, Wilfork did whatever he could to help Santaluces. He punted for a couple of games when needed and was the up man on the kickoff return team. He even grabbed a kickoff and almost took it 65 yards for a touchdown. It took more than half of the opposing coverage team to take Wilfork down.

If the good lawd is kind, somebody taped the WEEI interview with Jones and Wilfork, where Jones explains Vince's versatility ("he can play every position") and Vince responds to the interviewers doubts with mock angry indignation. One of the funniest things I've ever heard.

 Damn. What is that smell???? maybe its the horse farm down the road from me. No wait.......I think thats the smell of B.S. from another talking head with NOOOOOO contacts who needs to get his name out there. Seriously, WHY go to all the trouble and media blitz to get these guys? We would look more foolish if they cut them. Its still preseason with ONE game! And they haven't yet played to boot. Another article to use and save on my toilet paper.

I cant believe we are even having this discussion, let alone so many pages worth of comments about this hack's article that screams "look at me, read my article...please!"

Just another example of poor journalism.

Alas, I think this WEEI interview is gone forever but, apparently not forgotten on the SOSH forum.

I remember vince relating how he took ballet in college now that they mentioned it.

I hope it makes it to the Audio Vault at WEEI.com. His buddy is actually a WR on the practice squad, CJ Jones.
Dear lord, Vince is now discussing participating in ballet-dancing while in college, and talking about running the option pitch as a RB, saying he "trusts his legs", and would never pitch the ball. This mental imagery is ridiculous.

:rofl::rofl:

Dear Dan,

Let me reiterate: Whether you are a well-known writer with your own website and/or contract with the MSM, or JAG on a fan board, alcohol and writing is not a good concept.

Ah the classic unnamed source. I can do this too:

"A source with intimate knowledge of Dan Pompei's writing tells us that he is a hack that writes worthless, speculative, articles to get clicks on a website."

it wouldn't surprise me one bit if bb cuts Haynesworth. when was the last time the fat slob actually participated in practice?

It isn't his call. It is conditioning issue that will greatly improve w/ time. Make him a JAG to start out for 4-5 maybe 6 weeks. The dude will get in shape and when he does watch the phuck out.

he misses b/c of conditioning our BYE is in week 7. how will he not be ready then at the latest?

lol...jets fans are eating this up and believing every word of it..love it

If Belichick REALLY wanted to send a message to the locker room he could cut Tom Brady just to show everyone int he lockeroom that nobody's job is safe.

dumb article, while I wouldnt be SHOCKED if Haynesworth didnt make the team with the veteran D-line help and his history cutting Ochocinco to make a poitn is idiotic

While I wouldn't go that far, I definitely would feel more relieved if Albert practiced some, assuming he isn't behind the scenes or w/e...

Yeah i hope they cut Brady, Welker, Chung, McCourty just to prove a point

Pepper with some good things to say about Haynesworth. He's not going anywhere.

"ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss isn't buying speculation that Albert Haynesworth or Chad Ochocinco could be released to send a message to the Patriots locker room. Reiss points out the obvious, that the National Football Post was simply passing along one person's speculation rather than a report. Ochocinco has already received a $4.5 million signing bonus in New England, and coach Bill Belichick has been pleased with Haynesworth's approach "by all accounts." This is a non-story. "

It seems to me that if the Pats want to send a message to the locker room, the best way to do it is to have Haynesworth deliver it in person. :violent:

Actually most reports say it is his annual knee patch up that he does every training camp for the past few years. I haven't seen any true reports stating him being out of shape since he got here.

He has a history of not being the guy in the best shape, but there is nothing to point to that being the case right now. It's been a very different offseason with no team organized activities up until two weeks ago so most likely the team is playing it safe and coaching him up while he recovers.

You need to step back inside of the box sometimes.
