Anyone else think that as a unit, the Pats secondary is as good as the NYJ secondary with Nnamdi in there? With Bodden back, and the continued development of McCourty and Chung, the solid play of Arrington, Sanders and the (sometimes) solid play of Merriweather, I would put our secondary up against anyones.

No. You would have to be high on Patriot Crack to actually believe that.

I love the Patriots as much as anyone, but if the Jets get Nnamdi, no way are we in their league as far as the secondary. Bodden is decent, but far from a Pro-Bowl CB status, same can be said for Arrington.

McCourty is excellent, but still not one of the top 5 corners in the NFL (yet). He would need to duplicate his level of play for the next 2 years (at least), before he can be mentioned in Asomugha's and Revis' level.

Safety wise, Chung, Merriweather & Sanders are slightly above average. Merriweather only got the nod for the last two Pro Bowl's, due to injury, not due to stellar play.

Not gonna drink the Koolaid on this one, no way our secondary is better than theirs if the get Aso.

Pop quiz: Who are the Jets' starting safeties right now?

That's my point. At corner, they will definitely be better (although McCourty as the ability to be at Revis' level). But the rest of their secondary? No question we have the advantage there. With Ocho in the mix, they are not going to be able to put Revis on Welker full time. Their safeties are nothing of note. Nickel and dime backs?

Until someone figures out how a CB can cover more than one guy, "secondary" and "CB tandem" is not the same thing.

Secondaries don't play secondaries. They play opponents offense.

Pats offense vs Jets defense is better than Jets offense vs Pats defense.

I don't get how your argument even comes close to making sense. Both of their cornerbacks (if ASO signs) are not only significantly better than any member of our secondary, but they are the top two in the entire league. So right off the bat, their top two players in their secondary are significantly better than any member of our secondary. Do I need to continue? Our safeties are solid so far but neither of them even come close to making up for the difference between our CB's and their CB's. It's a non-argument.

Trick question. They only have one safety on the roster.

The solution to Revis + Aso? Gee that is tough. Ummmh...

How about the "Greatest show on Turf " solution. How about 3+ WRs? The Rams proved that Two guys can't be in Three or more places at once, no matter how good they are...

Score so far Pats + four probowlers, Bodden, Ty Warren, Haynsworth, Ocho, + (Stroud)? Jets lose three Probowlers plus. Jenkins, Jason Taylor, Ellis, and apparently Braylon Edwards. Difference between teams widens from 3 games a season, 14-2 vs 11-5, to 5 games a season, 13-3 vs 8-8.

Sorry Rex. Your time & moment of opportunity has come; and gone. Meanwhile Pats continue to gather strength into totally rebuilt JUGGERNAUT.

Buh Bye!

Are you stuck in the 1960's with a split end and flanker?

Ofcourse the arguement makes sense, perfect sense. You are clueless.

A SECONDARY consists four players with numerous variations of nickel and dime packages. Having the best tandem doesn't mean squat if eligable 3/4/5 are superior to your guys or you can't cover everything. The weakness gets exploited.

Why do you think the Steelers won and we drafted two RB's high?

Exactly. You can't argue that the Jets' secondary is better than the Pats' when they can't even field a starting defense right now.

Not true! Emanuel Cook has played four games in 3 seasons and has FIVE WHOLE TACKLES!

Not to mention future stars Richard Taylor and Wilfred Billingsley (sounds more like a Harry Potter character than a safety).

I disagree 100% with your statement. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Revis and ASO can only cover 2 receivers, and most passing plays have 3-4 receivers, it makes a huge difference who is covering the other 2 receivers. Teams are always burned by the weakest player on their defense.

Think about it, what are the top Defenses outside of the Jets? Ravens, Steelers, Bears, Packers, maybe Chargers. All those teams are strong up the middle--> DT, LB, and Safeties. Even in the Pats defensive haydays, we were strong up the middle, not necessarily at CB.

Plus if the Jets can't get any pressure on the QB they are gonna get light up by most decent QB's throwing to the middle of the field. But then again that's why they play the game!!!!!

Just saying.

Plus they used failed CB Dwight Lowery at safety last year.

See, they Jets have an embarrassment of mediocrity at safety. And DL. And WR. And TE (I would take our top 5 including Yeats before their #2).

The more I think about it, let them have Nmadi. With their depth, this team is 2 or 3 injuries from a bottom-5 team.

Sigh. NY here he comes.

2 CB's can't cover our entire Corps of playmakers

Gronk Hernandez Ocho Branch Welker Woody our new Ridley could dominate. Lawfirm in backfield. Bring it Jets I dare you :)

Let the Jets over spend and lose depth. The ppl they cut JAGS or pretty good?

Ok, just so we're all on the same page, if the Jets sign Aso, the New England Patriots will have a better secondary than the New York Jets? This is to verify that we're all on the same page

You both do realize that Aso and Revis will never need safety help. Right? And that, um, kind of allows them to cover for any weaknesses they have at any other positions. Speaking of weaknesses, their nickleback is a first round pick from last year. So really you're getting down to their dime packages and safeties, and Jim Leonhard is pretty damn good. Most importantly, like I said before, Aso and Revis will never need help, allowing their secondary to make up for any small weaknesses.

I'm sorry but am I alone on this? Does anyone else think that a Jets secondary with Aso is better than our secondary?
