Pats Trade for Haynesworth (merged)

If he is cut, how much he would cost in the salary cap?

His talent is unquestioned. There is no guarenteed $ coming out of the Pats pockets so they can cut him if it doesn't work. BB has Floyd Resse in the front office and is close to Jim Schwartz so you know he has done all the due diligence on the attitude problems and obviously feels it is a risk worth taking. To get that for a 2013 pick unlikely to make an impact - I can't see the downside.

The upside is 2 All-pro caliber guys in Haynesworth and Wilfork pushing the pocket from the inside on passing downs.

My flabber has been well and truly gasted. My initial reaction was, "Oh no" but the more I think about it I'm now in the "Hell yeah" camp

Re: Schefter Tweets Pats Trade for Haynesworth

Could the Pats be changing to more of a 4-3? I think our LBs are well suited for 4-3.

OK Vader...you have ****ed with my brain. I know nothing my great overlord.

Re: Pats get haynesworth

I hear he mixes a fantastic Gatorade ;-)

If we don't restructure, I'm pretty sure it's the full $5.4m, as his salary for this year is fully guaranteed, and the Redskins have already paid his previous pro-rated bonus money.

IBWT :scared:

We could really use that 5th rounder in 2013.

Hello active player number #46 - Sub rushing monstrosity.

Great point. Maybe we're seeing why BB didn't draft a pass rusher. He's going to a 4-3 with massive size up front and safeties and CBs coming from all over the place on passing downs. The depth at LB looks pretty solid now in a 4-3 and gives the young LBs more pass rushing lanes because the monsters up front have the attention of the offensive linemen. In the division, the QBs are less than frightening and the way to their hearts is through speed and confusion.

You ain't in Kansas anymore, Dorothy. Haynesworth better be ready to deal with guys like Wilfork, Mankins, Brady, Welker and Faulk who won't put up with any s#*t. Wait until Haynesworth gets a load of Sebastian Vollmer kicking his whining ass on the 14 days in pads.

The other thing that comes to mind is that this is money laundering at its finest. If he gets so much as a parking ticket, BB will turn around and trade Haynesworth for more draft picks to continue the youth movement.

This is a good point.....This will help the O-line going against someone the caliber of haynesworth in practice and it will help haynesworth working against mankins and our solid O-line......Maybe we could just line him up against Koppen on every play so he can get used to going up against a big bull rusher......

This is a hell of a trade for the pats as everyone else has said, high risk/high reward.....Plus I am sure he will remember what BB did to Moss last season that if you stop playing for 1 game you will be gone.....Love it....

Exactly. And let's be clear about how you bring pressure in the NFL and how you stymie guys like Brady and Manning. Box them in from the outside, solid coverage for 2 or 3 seconds, and don't let them step up in the pocket.

In the Giants game that we hate to mention, Brady was beaten with pressure up the middle.

Collapse that pocket from the inside and you've got pressure.

My first though when I read one of these titles was, "Oh, it's probably someone named Maurice Haynesworth." :D

My second thought is that this is one of the lowest-risk, highest-upside trades you'll ever see. A motivated Haynesworth is an absolute force of nature. This is exactly the same as the Moss trade, and the rest of the league is praying it doesn't work out.

I mean, what's not to like about this, other than Haynesworth personally?

And the GREAT military Genius Bill Belichick bypasses Free Agency and Trades for Albert haynesworth for a round 5 pick.

Haynesworth Wilfork Wright

3 defensive linemen that absolutely need double coverage ahahaha FEEL IT!!!
and the league must bow before the omnipotent Master

typical pats trade

trade a worthless future low round draft pick for a guy who probably only they can turn around

if anyone can get discipline and focus into this guy, it's the pats

crap.....

This makes me wonder if maybe Moss could come back.....jk but kinda not.

Pass rusher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :d

I'd say more low risk than high!

A 5th rounder for a player who potentially is one of the best in the league, certainly low risk for high reward!

To put in perspective, Denver traded a 4th for Maroney!

I hear ya. I'm just mean high risk from the standpoint of Haynesworth playing as an stud player. He was horrible for the Skins. Simply horrible, and couldn't care less what his teammates said about him. That's what I mean about high risk. In spurts he was a one man wrecking machine, and if that can be the norm, than the reward will be great. I can't wait to see what kind of shape he's in. If I were a betting man, I'd bet not very good shape. Last year he came to camp completely out of shape.
