Heres three guys i hope the pats have on their radar for day 3

Mark Herzlich-Top 10 pick before cancer. Was just getting his legs back last season and on Day 3 why not take a shot.

Greg Romeus-We could double dip here at the OLB spot and these two guys might be tremendous value this late in the draft

And my 3rd guy is Alex Henery Kicker Nebraska. I know we have the ghost but IMO this guys better. If you havent seen him go watch some youtube highlights. Looks like a twig but the guys got a cannon for a leg and has the accuracy to match

Funny. I was just thinking the Pats might take a kicker to give Gostkowski some competition. Henry might be a guy we draft in the 5th round to do so. Or maybe not. Depends on how Gost's recovery is going. I wouldn't mind a Greg Romeus 'redshirt' pick either. We'll just have to see how it pans out. Still the possibility to 'mine some gems' on the 3rd day of the draft.

Why not take a kicker? Being from Nebraska i get to see alot of the Huskers. This kids attitude is great, no fear in him. Hes just got that care free attitude that you want your kicker to have, unlike that kicker koeding from San Diego who seems to choke every yr in the playoffs because if he misses a kick it seems to stick with him the entire game.

Riddley - I can't believe there wasn't an player who could fill a greater position of need here.

I disagree..... I think Riddley fits a huge position of need. Vereen, like Woody, has a unique skillset and they replace Faulk's traditional role. You can bet the when either or both are on the field, D won't know WTF we'll be doing.

Riddley OTOH is a 4 down guy that can specifically back up BJGE..... and that makes me more comfortable then having the dinosaurs Morris and Taylor back there. Plus, he's a ST contributor.

If you think that just drafting Vereen addressed our RB need, then you're not paying attention to skill sets.

Mallett - takes a position player off the roster for at least 1 year as the Pats will need to carry 3 QBs. Not sure what the end game is with Mallett - an eventual replacement for Brady or a trade chip in the future.

Vereen - Faulk = 0

Riddley - Morris+Taylor = -1.

There, now the math works ;)

Seriously...... we don't know what Hoyer brings to the table, but Mallet will make him better and in a few years Mallett just might be our franchise guy. Brady is approaching an age where skills diminish (even in great players), so taking a flyer here on a low risk pick for a guy that has top talent is a solid move.

If we could somehow get Romeus in round 5, or trade into round 4 for him I would start to feel a little better about this draft. There are still some solid players left on the board, but I don't think BB will have much interest.

I agree. Trade both 5ths for a 4th, pick Romeus, take Herzlich with the 6th and IR/PUP both of them for 2011. No one they draft today will make the roster for 2011. This will set the Pats up well for 2012.

I understand the difference in skill set between the 2 players. I'm just shocked that the Patriots saw greater value in drafting 2 RBs 3rd than addressing other needs. Especially when there are still several decent RBs on the board.

We'll I think Riddley was their man and as the focus of this thread..... they obviously chose to "opt out" til 138 where he (or any of the others we might have wanted) might not be.

Scoop and run. It's clear that RB depth and versatility was what we lacked offensively last year. Everyone b!tches about not being able to "get off the field" on third down, but just as big of a concern not being able to "stay" on the field on third down and kill the clock when we needed to. We had no other options when BJGE or Woody was not effective, except a couple dinosaurs. Good guys, but nothing left.

Vereen is a great pick due to his explosiveness. Riddley is great as a downhill guy that can moves the chains if needed. Plus he can contribute on ST right away.

I think we need a "healthy" year on D to REALLY gage what we have there. There is such a thing as "too young". I think BB thinks we reached it. I think this draft makes it clear (as it does every year), BB idea of what our "needs are" clearly differs from what we fans does.

WE MUST NOT FORGET HERZLICH

he will be an easy player to put on PUP/IR and through this we an let him develop and gain mass b/c he fought off cancer and lost sooo much

153 is Herlichs.

Honestly i'd take him sooner

nothing to lose

I hope BB see's the FIGHTER I do.

agreed.

we an also trade Hoyer for an easy 2. Arizona plz take him

Please do not take personal offense to this jeff, but this is just ridiculous on many levels.

First of all, how do you know that he isn't going to find anyone in rds 4-7, UFDA's, or free agency (when it starts)?

"This guy has lost it???".....REALLY??? He made it so we cannot lose. We have the same exact 2 firsts and 2 seconds next yr, so there is no risk at all. If some of these guys do not work out, we still have the picks next year, and did not lose much of anything. He stole Mallett, who was the #1 QB on our board, and projected to go in the first rd by many. He obviously has a rocket for an arm, likely the most sheer talent of all the QB's, and will get to sit and learn under the greatest QB of all time. He should instantly improve our depth at the position, b/c you never know what can happen. If not, he learns under Belichick and Brady.

The RB situation is a lot better, we picked up a very tall CB with obvious first rd ties barring his injury last yr, and got a MONSTER OT to protect Brady, add depth to the OL, and give us leverage in the Light negotiations (if there even will be negotiations)

You may not agree with it---but "This guy has lost it???" That's just short-sighted.

OK, look, I was on board with the T and RB selections. No doubt. But not having a pick til 159 today(oops make that 138) and making that trade with the Raiders doesnt exactly instill confidence in me that he will be working the board hard today. By not going through the process and drafting a G we have fewer options in FA, and I really thought we would be all about options! Take the best G in round 4 @125 and I would have been happy. Having to throw in todays 4th to get next years 2nd from the Raiders is a overpayment. I could have seen this years 3 and NEXT years 4 for next years 2....swap of spots, 1 or both of our 5ths, whatever. To me I think alot of teams no longer want to trade this years 3 for next years 2nd anymore. A 4th was a high price to pay I think especially to a team that is going to improve over their finish last year. Another year removed from the Jamarcus Russell experiment, the Raiders have a decent team over there.
RAMBLE RAMBLE, my point is there seems to be a demarcation line this year, lets see if anyone south of Mallett makes the team.

There is a reason this sucks on so many levels.....the players. If BB is assumed to be the Guru of the draft or whatever, what is he doing turning his back on the draft at this point?? Especially considering we picked up TB in the 6th!!!! Imagine the players hoping to get drafted seeing BB walk away from the table! This is the same "master" of the draft that each year keeps rookie UDFAs!! I think we should pitch in and send BB on vacation with Cam Newton! The guy has lost it.......

jeffbiologist,

You are a reasonable guy, who is in danger of being infected by the STD mind rot of "Grid".

Herzlich would be a complete waste of a pick.

Cannon. Weird. Well, at least I got three picks right this year...

Sucks he fell so far, was possibly a second round player

Very weird. Just shows how much Bill hates this draft. Doesn't see anybody who fits the scheme, so he takes the best guy who doesn't.

Cannon....really? I know he's good but he's yet another player who will not help the team this year becuse he has a treatable version of lymphona. Dowling is the same, they have cornerback depth with bodden, arrington and buttler behind McCourty so he's another guy who probably won't make an impact this year if he can even stay on the field. Solder is too raw to help them out this year and Mallett won't suit up and start for the Patriots for at least another 4 years when Brady's contract is up so I don't know why they keep making these picks that probably won't help them this year. I know they were 14-2 but they could always use depth at positions of NEED, cornerback and quarterback are not areas of need, they needed to at least one linebacker and maybe another d-lineman even another wide receiver, It's like they don't care what happens this year especially with free agency still up in the air.

Hey Chicken Little, name a player available there who could help the Pats in 2011. Hint: There are none.

It could be that or it could be a continuation of the physical iniative. Kick his big ass inside to right guard and they're getting pretty nasty on that right side.
