AJ Hawk cut by Packers...

One would think that the NCAA's winningest program in the past 20 years would produce some NFL talent, no? That's like saying that the NFL's recently winningest program (New England) doesn't produce any kind of talent.

How about--

Eddie George, Cris Carter, Nick Mangold, Keith Byers, AJ Hawk, Na'il Diggs, Joey Galloway, Chris Gamble, Terry Glenn, Anthony Gonzalez, Ted Ginn, Archie Griffen, HOF' er Lou Groza, Ben Hartsock, Santonio Holmes, Malcolm Jenkins, Pepper Johnson??, Mike Jenkins, 1st rounder Andy Katzenmoyer, HOF' er Dante Lavelli, maybe **** LeBeau?, 11 yr NFL vet Kirk Lowdermilk, 20 yr NFL vet Jim Marshall, Donnie Nickey, Mike Nugent, Orlando Pace, Shane Olivea, HOF' er Jim Parker, Ryan Pickett, Ahmad Plummer, Quinn Pit****, Heisman winner Troy Smith, RB Robert Smith, Saints DT Will Smith, Alonzo Spellman, Chris Speilman, Matt Snell, Shawn Springs, Alex Stephanovich, Jack Tatum?, 14 year NFL vet Mike Tomcsak, Tom Tupa, oh yeah--Mike Vrabel?, HOF 'er Paul Warfield, Matt Wilhelm, Dante Whitner, HOF' er Bill Willis, Dan Wilkenson, maybe Antoine Winfield?, Vince Workman, Nate Clements, ---and these are just the guys that anyone would recognize. There are a ton more that the average fan wouldn't know.

Congrats on having one of the absolutely most ignorant posts I have ever read. No offense, nothing personal--you are a like able guy, just need a history lesson involving NCAA programs. And this has nothing to do with rivalries, hatred, etc. You have to give props where props are due.

Just your post alone, "He's OSU......" is ridiculous. Maybe we should stay away from Michigan now too because Shawn Crable didn't work out?

And FWIW--no one (including the Packers) ever questioned Hawk's talent. He started the SB, had 111 tackles, and 3 INT's (not bad for a LB). When you are the 5th overall pick in the draft, you sometimes have to restructure your back-loaded contract. I don't think anyone felt he was ever actually going to achieve a 11 million dollar bonus plus salary.

Someone's taking a comment way too seriously

Again, how? If you are ill informed as he apparently is, then how is it wrong to show examples?

As I just provided a link stating that OSU has produced an incredibly high number of NFL players (top 5)--then did I not show examples, and links to back it up?

If I'm taking it 'way too seriously' then so do a high percentage of posters who choose to back up their statements (shrugs) by example and links.

GB will probably re-sign him unless some team makes a stupid offer.

We're pretty set at ILB so for the money it'd take, I don't see it happening.

I would submit Bobby Carpenter would also apply.

I don't think Bobby Carpenter had anywhere close to the hype that Gholston did, but yes, he has certainly underperformed. I disagree that Carpenter really changed anyone's mind about the school itself, because it was 5 yrs ago, and he was nowhere near the monumental bust that Gholston apparently is.

I also did not include Bobby Carpenter on my list of examples.

I'm sure there are a ton of examples that we could use from any school. There have been plenty of players that didn't live up to par at USC for example, but no one's going to call USC out, with a bunch of periods after the statement.

If they did, I'd be having the same conversation with them too. It just is very ill informed and short sighted. If your opinion differs, then I can respect that, but I'm not sure how it really could differ. A fact is a fact. This isn't about frat boy alliances. Penn State is where I attended school personally.

Carpenter was nothing more than a 1st round pick that did not preform as expected, I would certainly agree that he is a bust, as far as choosing in the first round. It was poor scouting by Dallas, and he was taken #18 in the first round. I think that happens though, with every school.

I don't think he was even allowed to develop his talent @ Dallas. He was a Bill Parcells pick (Carpenter's dad played for Bill Parcells w. the Giants) and they switched from a 2 gap to a 1 gap system when Wade came in. They didn't even give him a chance to play. Got stuck playing ST while they picked another 1st rd ILB in 2007
Remember another player who was picked by Parcells and played well till Wade put him as the backup-Marcus Spears- LDE.

he's a nice ILB but the pats are good young and deep at ILB some team with a bigger need will offer him much more then the pats will

Supposedly is resigning a 5 yr deal with Green Bay today, at a restructured deal that gets rid of the 11 million dollar bonus.

But I do agree with your general statement that another team would've given him a lot more than this team likely would have, due to the lack of need etc.

Hahahahaha

They questioned his talent when 2 players jumped over him on the depth chart ;) he played last year due to injuries to others.

AJ Hawk is terrible, one of the worst coverage LB's in the game. Go back and watch the Cardinals game from 2009, and watch Hawk get picked on again and again.

OSU can produce good players, but your just being a complete homer, the reason Bobby Carpenter didn't play is because he STUNK. The "first round ILB" they selected was Anthony Spencer, who is um, an outside linebacker?

And Marcus Spears, he never played well...

Hawk has not done much as a pro and 2 Packers have already leapfrogged him for his position...Pass

Hawk is pretty good, he's just not worth $10.5 million.

You do realize that the posts you make affect your reputation as a poster. Right?
