CB Jimmy Smith- hes been arrested twice and tested positive for pot in college. He lied about one of the arrests in an interview (ESPN).

WR Greg Little- Hasn't been honest during interview process. Isn't known as a route runner. He just doesn't fit our mold at all.

OLB Mark Herzlich - 4-3 OLB and he ran a 4.96 forty. Hes a tweener in our system and won't be picked.

Ryan Winterswyk - Another tweener. Too light for 3-4 DE at 268 and too slow for OLB after running a 5.03 forty.

Pernell McPhee - Hes a 4-3 DE. His forty was way too slow to play 3-4 OLB at 4.93.

Bruce Miller - Arms are way too short at 30 1/4 inches and his forty was only 4.85 which is slow.

Jeremy Beal - I think he hurt himself more than any player at the combine. Hes not powerful enough to be a 4-3 DE and he ran a 5.16 ughhhh. He doesn't fit here at all in the 3-4 at OLB.

Beal isn't getting drafted by anyone right now...

Mark Ingram
Justin Housotn
Robert Quinn
Akeem Ayers

You really think Belichick would pass on Quinn? I don't.

Definitely. Looked mediocre standing up at the combine, and his explosiveness is overrated.

Oh yeah, and he hasn't played football in a year and his production was mostly against weak teams.

Yeah, totally forgot about that. Add Aaron Williams to the Condon list. Aldon is represented by Ben Dogra (also from CAA) though.

Add to your list:
Gets kicked out of NCAA for accepting agent gifts...then shows up at combine running through drills wearing a GIANT diamond stud earring. Completely lost during two drills. Doesn't seem to get it

Why no Kerrigan?

Don't put a ton of weight into the 40 times for OLBs. The more telling times are the 10 and 20 yard splits.

People said that we'd not take Spikes because of his 40 time, yet we did.

I agree with you about Miller's arms. Not to mention the lack of explosiveness in his Long Jump and vertical. McPhee would fall into that category as well.

Winterswyk put up decent Long jump, 3 cone and shuttle numbers.

Those people were stupid. The Patriots were one of the few teams who would take him seems like they had Senior Seau and Bruschi starting back in 07. What do you think their 40 times were?

Your right, the Pats won't draft these guys because a lot of them they will be off the board by the time they pick!

Spikes is an ILB, but you are right. BB has stated he is looking for OLBs in the 4.6 range but then he took Cunningham who ran a 4.89

.

I've seen that about Little. I'd like a little more clarification before I take him off my draft board, however.

I have severe character concerns about Cam Newton and Robert Quinn....not that we were ever going to draft a QB high anyway.

Whomever drafts Newton also drafts his Dad and his marketing team. That's not good.

Don't count out Herzlich ... he has too many intangibles to discount. I could see the Pats using a Day three pick on him. How many 5th - 7th picks will stay on a team? I could see him getting a redshirt year to build himself up and get back as clsoe as he can to where he was before the cancer. Its remarkable he has come back this far already. Hey I would even hire him as a strength coach under Harold Nash!

I'll go with Phil Taylor. It's not just the history of violent assaults (though that's bad enough). It's the fact that when he got kicked out of Penn State and ended up at Baylor, he talked about how glad he was to be away from that taskmaster Paterno and in a more easy-going environment where the coach "treats us like men." He and his family have acted like he's a victim -- of keeping bad company, of a program eager to make an example of him, etc. Plus he only bothered to play hard and get in shape when an NFL contract was on the line.

...BB has stated he is looking for OLBs in the 4.6 range...

I'd be very interested in the source of BB's comment. Personally, I'd be content with any DE/OLB running under 4.7 -- but it's not the norm -- in any draft.

Here's a list of all the DEs weighing 250-270 and their 40s:

Acho, Sam 6015 262 4.68
Ballard, Christian 6036 262 4.80
Chinasa, Ugo 6047 264 4.71
Daniels, Wayne 6002 260 5.12
Elmore, Rick 6044 255 4.96
Kerrigan, Patrick 6037 267 4.71
Matthews, Cliff 6034 257 4.82
Miller, Bruce 6013 254 4.85
Quinn, Robert 6040 265 4.70
Reed, Brooks 6024 263 4.68
Reed, D'Aundre 6037 2.61 4.89
Sheard, Jabaal 6027 264 4.69
Smith, Aldon 6042 263 4.78
White, Markus 6034 266 4.93
Winterswyk, Ryan 6041 268 5.03

Agreed, apparently his 3 cone and 10yd split were also good, which is vastly more important than the 40 for a linebacker.

How they get set for the 40 is also a bit ridiculous IMO, they're not in pads & helmet, like they will be on the field, and they're starting from a very different position then they would be on the field.

I also have a feeling Herzlich is going to continue to improve as times goes on, getting farther and farther away from his time dealing with cancer.

BB has stated he is looking for OLBs in the 4.6 range but then he took Cunningham who ran a 4.89

Cunningham actually strained his quad during his only 40 run, so the time was not accurate. His 10 yard split was 1.57 on that run, which is very fast. Without the strain it's likely he would have been in the 4.6 range.

Somebody is going to get a heck of a steal with Herzlich who is gonna be a stud ones he heals back up. It's just not going to be the Pats nor any other 34 team.
