A three-step plan to return to glory

I will draft 3 players 2 Defensive front 7 and 1 OL.

I want what people are smoking when they think mankins will fetch a 1st or 2nd in a trade. No team is going to trade and sign a monster contract with NO CBA.

Players can't be traded until there's a new CBA.

I like some of the ideas here.

But how about : Trade PRO-BOWL STARTER Brandon Merriwether (seriously, WHEN is his value ever going to be higher?) for a 2012 1st rounder. Merriwether's final contract year is coming up and, let's face it, he's not a Belichick-type. Cash out while the price is at it's zenith, keep all the draft picks and add another 1st rounder for next year.

If the CBA gets renewed with a rookie salary cap, then there may be the money to use on Mankins (IF he even wants to be here).

I'd take a 2nd rounder this year for BM. Draft a real free safety and have Sanders start while the rookie is groomed to take over in 2012.

Defense won't be neglected by BB. Don't worry about that. But we need some more hogs up front. I'm tired of waiting for Neal's annual, inevitable season ending injury. And Mankins situation is very uncertain. A guy like Pouncey or Watkins could become immediate contributors for us.

Step 1. Add better players

Step 2. Don't get injured

Step 3. Don't lose in the playoffs

Further, as to this "knucklehead" reputation:

If anything, the oft-maligned Patriots safety has been one of the movers and shakers on defense.

Meriweather has been quarterbacking all of the other stars in the secondary, lining them up in the proper places, moving them into the right coverage. Even yesterday, New York Jets super shutdown corner Darrelle Revis couldn’t spend enough time with him, picking his brain.

OMFG...leadership kudos from the Pro Bowl where the AFC Defense was an unmitigated disaster...

No kidding. The only thing he was lining up was a putt on 14 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua.

17 DT -> must pick this position here (see Warren, Seymour, Wilfork)
28 OT -> in this draft class, a good one will be available at this pick
33 OLB -> in this draft class, a good one will be available at this pick
60 OG -> best available

Then RB, CB in the 3rd round

Remaining picks won't make the team, which seems to reinforce others' predictions that we will trade some picks...maybe even one of the third rounders.

I like where your going, but you cant say draft a DT at 17 if an OLB or OT is the best value at that spot. You have to take the best player avail. at that pick that can help you. If the best player at 17 is a DE and the best player on the board at 28 is a DE and they are both players you value, you pick both at those picks.

Edelman did more in 2009 than he did last year.

Deaderick, Love, and Fletcher all saw considerable time last year.

Hoyer has been Brady's backup for a couple years now.

Thats exactly our problem. Did you watch the Green Bay and NYJ games, where Brace wasn't available? Having Love on the line is like making big Vince play next to a piece of coral.

Vince can't play three positions at once.

Thanks, Jack.

55-41.

Merriwether is a genius.

This is slowly driving me mad.

Instead of snarky responses, try reading the article instead of making yourself look the fool.

Who was coaching the AFC Pro Bowl team again? Oh, that's right! Bill Belichick. By your logic, then, he must be a terrible defensive coach.

I agree. I was only responding to the claim of the aforementioned being STOPs.

The inherent problem with Mankins is he has no trade value.

He has already named his asking price, which is higher than any guard in the NFL. And he won't take less.

If a team is willing to make that financial commitment, then why would they give up a draft pick when they could just sign him on the open market?
