Thought just crossed my mind: would Pats sign Gholston to minimum contract?

While we're on the topic of OSU stars, why don't we sign Bobby Carpenter to play ILB for us??

4-yard TFL against the Pats week 2

wow. it was 4 yards. thats his greatest play in the NFL. seriously. he is such a horrible player hahahaha.

Re: Thought just crossed my mind

Vernon Gholston doesn't deserve to be in the NFL at all. 3 years and zero sacks.

If we want that type of production I would rather resign Vrabel. Vrabel has gone 20 consecutive NFL games without a sack, and has received a great deal more snaps per game then Gholston.

Never liked Gholston, thought he was overrated and a bad fit for NE going into the draft, but many posters on this forum had pipe dreams of NE drafting him... I'm glad that didn't happen. I also don't believe the Patriots were ever all that interested, and I'll be shocked if he ever sees the field during a meaningful game in a Patriots uniform.

FWIW, not long after the draft one of the New York sports networks (SNY?) posted a video analyzing the first round, and claiming the JEST pulled a fast one on the Patriots with Gholston.

Funny I can't find that video anymore. :D

he is one of the biggest physical freaks in the NFL. with the right coaching he can be a great player.

Gotta assume this is a tongue in cheek comment.

If not, you must be VG himself.:p

The problem is the right coach doesn't exist in the real world. There are too many rumors about his intelligence and passion for the game. Some guys have the physical skills to be Hall of Famers, but the mental abilities to be waterboys. Gholston seems to be one of those guys.

Personally, I think the only way Gholston will ever be a be a good NFL player is if he goes to a simplified defense like most Tampa 2 defenses where he can just use his raw physical skills to run around and freelance to make plays. The Pats' system is way too complicated for this guy and I seriously doubt he could ever pick it up since he still struggles to pick up basic techniques.

I was just thinking about it They need to get him! Take a chance on the guy! Small risk high reward!

They claimed the Pats tried to trade up to get him and were rebuffed. Granted the NY media also claimed that the Jets outmaneuvered the Pats to trade up to get Dewayne Robertson too. Which was a falicy. The Miami media did the same thing with claiming that the Dolphins stole Vernon Carey from them. BTW, if the Jets and Dolphins did outmaneuver the Pats, I am glad. I would rather have Jerod Mayo, Ty Warren, and Vince Wilfork over Vernon Gholston, Dewayne Robertson, and Vernon Carey any day.

It is kinda ironic that the Pats AFC East rivals have to justify their first round picks by claiming that they "stole" them from the Patriots.

This would be a great idea. You just can't find a player with Gholston's measureables every day. With his ability to dominate college tackles via the bullrush, you can be sure that he'll take the NFL by storm. It's just the matter of a few more push ups and squats. I just hope the Patriots can sign him as a F.A. before the Jets do.

Re: Thought just crossed my mind

And how would you feel about the Pats bringing in Kirk Cousins next year? ;)

I like Cousins. I think he has more potential than Hoyer, who they've managed to make a decent backup.

That's a pretty expensive door stop, even at vet minimum.

Tony Mandarich says hi.
