Ryan gets another shot in at Pats

3-2 is as close as a series can possibly be over five games. Add in the fact that the team with the two wins has outscored the one with the three wins, and it's even closer. I think it's highly inaccurate to portray this as "Jets have Pats number", or some of the other similar commentary that's being said. Ryan's Jets have finished second to the Patriots in each of his seasons as head coach, but have progressed further in the playoffs. It's even, it's a wash; I don't know how anyone can objectively say otherwise. It's easy to cherry pick one single fact in order to prove your point, regardless of which side it is, if you have an agenda.

I do think the fact that Ryan brings the Patriots up once again does show the Pats are still very much on his mind, to the point of obsession. If he does have a reason for his comments - as opposed to just speaking without thinking about what he is saying - I can think of two reasons.

First, after a season ending defeat he, the players, and their fans are depressed. This commentary spins a negative into a positive; they all get to walk away with their heads held high as if they accomplished something significant in 2010, and can head into 2011 with confidence.

Second, it's just another in a long list of attempts to get the Belichick and the Patriots off their game, distracted, and lose their focus. My guess is that he's rolling the dice with this type of plan because deep down he knows that Belichick is a better coach, and the Patriots are a better team. If it works then it was a great idea, and if it doesn't work that's okay too because he had to come up with something to try to win; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Bottom line is that I predict we'll hear Ryan say something about the Patriots on a regular basis all off season; we may as well get used to it.

I agree, well said !!! We ought to just take it for what it is, just Ryan being Ryan. Eventually, they will completely tune him out.

Rex is crowing about beating the Pats. Good for him. He's a winner.
His team lost 6 games this year and the Patriots lost 3. He's a loser.
His team went 2-1 against the Patriots in 2010-11. He's a winner.
The Patriots won the AFC East and the Jets backed in as a wild card. He's a loser.
He went to the AFC Championship game while the Patriots sent flowers to Tom Brady in the hospital. He's a winner.
Rex coaches the Jets who have not been to the SB in 42 years...and counting. He's a loser.
In that span the Patriots have been to 6 Super Bowls. He's a loser.
Madame Forewoman, has the jury reached a verdict? Yes, your Honor, he's a loser!

Surprised no one has asked Rex...

I am surprised no one has asked Rex how the taste of Da Feat is now that he has had a few days to soak it all in...

----

sorry, I just thought of that joke today, and had to post it.

Re: Surprised no one has asked Rex...

Pretty clever brah.

I'm so sick and tired of Ryan making such a big deal about beating the Patriots in the playoffs. So what if they are 3-2 in the last 2 years. If you go back 10 years the Patriots are 15-7 against the Jets. including 1-1 in the playoffs. I hope the Patriots run the score up on these fools every chance they get.

Its funny how every jet fan in the world thought they won the Superbowl when they beat us, and then they get beat up by the steelers and wonder where the good times went. it goes to show how great the patriots are and have been in the recent years to be the only measuring stick in the league, in pretty much every category.

The Patriots are 24-10 (.706) over the past 2 seasons. 3 of the 10 losses have come against the Jets, in just 5 games, meaning the Patriots are 22-7 (.759) in games against the rest of the league and 2-3 (.400) in games against the Jets.

Ryan's absolutely correct.

I was waiting to find your post so I could quote it an agree with it

It's funny that the Pats are in Rex's head enough that he feels it necessary to bring them up. It doesn't change the fact that he's right though. Blow outs or not, they're 3-2 with a win at the Razor in the playoffs.

(insert foot joke here for a complete post)

If the Patriots manage to sweep the Jets next year, what will Ryan say now? He won't have anything to brag about lol

I'll say this again, during the Patriots heyday from 2002-2006, their record against a putrid Dolphins team was 6-5.

I guess that means we were about even with the Dolphins during that era.

Honestly, I think this is the man's recruitment pitch. He is trying to recruit anyone who hates the Patriots to come play for him. Playing us will be his Superbowl every year.

To be freakin honest, he's right.

We lost 3 times this year and 2 of those losses were against the Jets. That's just the reality.

I have no problem with what he said and given his record against us amidst the huge pressure of trashtalking and insulting Brady in public, it is natural to expect him to dismiss us.

And until Brady avenges his last dismal playoff performance, Ryan is bound to ignore us - which will be blissful!

Hopefully Brady gets his vengance next season and crush them every single time without remorse.

The big difference is to us the jets are just another team in our way on the path to a superbowl. To them we are everything they want to be and cannot see past that ,which is why they blew there load celebrated liek that actually won something when the beat us and fell flat last week.

You have to keep the eye on the big picture and there focus is/was on us specifically not the end goal which for us is always the championship.

Sorry dude, that might have been in the past.

I respect what Rex and the Jets nearly pulled off: on the road for three consecutive weeks against very good division winners, including their past nemesis coming off a bye-week (and who clobbered them 45-3 the previous time). If their O had played decently in the first half and the playcalling wasn't that horrible in the second, they would have taken the Steelers down.

What makes it difficult to give them credit is their trash talking and obnoxious behavior - of both players and fans.

And come on, back-to-back AFCC trips would lead any team, including the humble and plain Jets, to think that we are just another team on their way to their playoffs. Rex in fact correctly pointed out that their goal next season is to win the division, exactly what BB has been saying from day 1.

So, get ready for a pumped up and overconfident Jets and their fans the next season who will treat us in the same level as they consider the Fins and Bills.

I hope we blow them away both in the regular season and playoffs and in the process, bring them back to their prior status - SOJ.

This rivalry is just getting started . . .

I love it. You couldn't have two polar opposites clashing, two of the best teams in the NFL set up for years of competition. This is becoming one of the best rivalries in the NFL for years to come.

Great user name:rocker:

What Ryan said was beyond stupid. He said, we beat them but no one else could, or maybe the Jets could have had home games.

That's stupid.

If Rex wanted home games, then he shouldn't have shat his pants and coached a crap game at Foxboro and lost 45-3. if the Jets had taken care of business, he wouldn't have had to whine about other teams not beating the Patriots. Ridiculous. He's making excuses for his own failings.

How on earth does that qualify as a shot? They have done well against the Patriots. Nonstory...
