Santonio Holmes

He's exactly the kind of player that has just been shipped out over the last year. There's a reason Adalius Thomas, Springs, Moss, Chris Baker, etc, are gone. That's the same reason Holmes won't be brought in.

As a Steeler fan I will chime in. He is an unbelievable talent, great hands, extremely elusive in the open field and one of the best YAC receivers. FRom all accounts in Pittsburgh, he was a good teammate. He is, however, rather selfish and immature. I was upset when the Steelers released him (well, traded him for a fifth round pick) and doubt they would have if the team wasn't already dealing with the bad PR from Ben's fiasco in the offseason.

I see no way the Pats would sign him. I believe the Steelers could have handled him because they are a veteran team and his immaturity isn't going to rub off on the others. The Pats on the other hand are a very young team. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the young guys.

And I also have little doubt that the guy is not going to stop smoking weed and next time he gets caught he's out for a year.

the game before the Pats released Moss I saw Moss give little to no effort to block on running plays. I am sure BB didn't want this type of thing rubbing off on the younger guys. Veterans you don't have to worry about, but if Holmes is brought into a young team he can be a bad influence.

No way.

He took off after the Offensive coordinator today. Not a Pats kind of guy. Think Randy Moss without the HOF talent.

He was arrested 3 times while in the NFL IIRC. No way the Pats sign this guy

Thanks for the input Closingtime, maybe in the past with the veteran leaders this could of worked. Probably best not to do it though like you said with the young team.

Any jets or steelers fans with some input about this guy? I've just seen him in a few jets game this year and in the steelers-cardinals super bowl.

the OP said he had good hands? and another poster said Braylon Edwards has ****ty hands.

Holmes has worse hands than Edwards. Edwards cured his drops this year. I believe Edwards had 1-2 at the most total. He doesnt drop anything anymore.

Holmes is overrated IMO. I think Edwards is the better WR.

editt: somebody also said edwards gets in more trouble which is completely false. holmes has been in trouble for throwing a glass of liquor in a females face, pot pictures on his website, showing naked pics of himself, 2 marijuana failures, and uh i could go on lol.

Edwards is nowhere near as good as Holmes.

Holmes is better than Edwards and it is not even close. How many games did Holmes win at the end for the Jets this year? 4? 5? What did Edwards do? Edwards has always dropped passes. This year was the anomoly.

Yeah, because a once-in-a-lifetime talent like Moss is really the equivalent of a guy like Holmes, who has had one 1,000 yard season in his five-year career and 26 TDs in his career (Moss had 23 in 2007.)

You must be a Jets fan because you don't see the distinction between a Hall of Fame wide receiver and a guy who will probably never make the pro bowl.

not a jets fan, but this guy is 1/100000th of the headcase that moss is

For all the headaches relating to Moss, you can't deny he was one of the smartest wide receivers in the game when it came to on-the-field stuff. Holmes, not so much.

right now holmes is a better wr than moss, easily

less mentally deficient as well, and doesn't give up like moss does

Holmes is 1 positive test for weed from being suspended for a year and publicly bashed the playcaller. It doesn't matter how he is compared to Moss, he's still worse than 52 of the players on the Patriots' roster combined. (I'll exclude Spikes for now, but it seems he's on the right track.

Right now, Holmes is a better WR than Jerry Rice. What exactly is your point though? Comparing a guy in his prime to a HOFer past his prime makes absolutely no sense, especially in the context of your original post where you discussed we might take a shot at Holmes since we did for Moss. Why not talk about Chad Henne being a better QB than Bart Starr is right now? Or how Joseph Addai is superior to Barry Sanders since he's out-rushed him every year since 2006?

If you want to make that comparison, you have to look at the 2007 version of Moss, since that's when the trade actually happened. And the 2007 version of Moss was several levels above the 2011 Holmes. They were practically in different leagues in terms of talent.

And again, Moss was incredibly intelligent on the field. Holmes, not so much. Moss was known as a great teammate. Holmes, not so much. Moss was a HOF talent. Holmes, not so much.

So no, I don't think the acquisition of Randy Moss means we'd take a chance on Holmes. They're really not as similar as you seem to believe.

Holmes really doesn't seem like that bad of a guy

He was bad enough for the Steelers, a team with a rapist at quarterback, to say "**** this" and trade him away for a 5th round pick.

Really? Guess I haven't seen Edwards enough this year. I stand corrected then. Thanks for the info. Still though it seemed like Holmes was always the one who came up big on their game winning drives or in OT.

Holmes got alot of the flashy catches, but Edwards was always there to move the ball.

Holmes dropped 2 simple touchdowns this year, and those 2 drops resulted in losses.

I used to think Edwards was overrated, but he is actually underrated. Guy is a monster at blocking too.

Inconsistent would be the right word. He had a pretty good season, but his previous two were full of drops. If the "two bad, one good" pattern continues, you may not want him on your team for the next two seasons;)

To be fair, it was likely BECAUSE of Worthlessburger's sexcapades that they decided they needed to ship Holmes out of there, not in spite of them.
