And that is a big-time gamble IMO. Had the Patriots taken what the defense gave them and played smash-mouth football with the running game, it could have turned the tables in their favor. The Jets guessed that the Patriots would not take the bait, and it was the right guess. But to say that they were willing to let the Patriots run is not entirely factual.
You're forgetting that the Jets could change the play call at will. do you think they are required to play the same defense all the way down the field until BJGE can poke it in?
Not trying to be a wise guy here, but it's a gamble. They could just as easily go all out to stuff the run on any play, if they thought that was our game plan.
As I mentioned with Dillon in another post, there are running backs that can kill even stacked defenses. Dillons 278 yard game used to be on youtube. That's a runner that couldn't be stopped once he got a rhythm. I sincerely don't believe BJ is anywhere close to that in athletic ability, drive or any other way, which is why I don't think Ryan would let him get started, if indeed we decided to try to run every other play or something.
If he did, Ryan, or actually the LB, would change the defense. It's really as simple as that.
