If Chung had hands, it was a first down. Hindsight is 20/20

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

I need somebody to blame for this so I hope you're right :lol2:

you may want to remove the clip - it's depressing

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

When i first heard that Welker had been benched i through 2 things right away.

1. Belichick must be so confident in his offense destroying the jets that he doesnt need welker out there.

or

2. Wow, Belichick better win this game or he is going to catch hell for this.

seeing as how 2 has come to fruition, the question must be asked.....WTF?

people are saying that this team looked like it came out with less fire and that they looked like someone had shot their collective dogs before they took the field.

i wonder if this was what caused that.

Think about it, Welker stood up for his team by making all of the foot comments, they no doubt had felt like they had has back and even worked together with him to deliver the message.

and then just before the game, he is inexplicably benched, sending a cold disciplinary message to the team that even someone who has worked as hard as Welker has shall not defy ultimate Belichick rule.

Players might have been demotivated by that single action, and it all went down hill as the game went on.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

Benching welker was a joke. The only thing I would like to know is what is it with the benching of welker that put the pats in a better position to win since BB is always talking about the things that put the pats in the best position to win.

Beyond that, it aims as though the pats peaked too soon and that the pats offensive mastery over the rest of the NFL was greatly overstated.

The pats had all the pieces in place to win it all this year, but didn't come close.

It took a month to go from overachievers to underachievers.

One and done 2years in a row.........something the colts used to be criticized over

That's that........time for other hobbies

It was the wrong time to make a point. Can't believe anyone could think otherwise.

If grandma had a **** she'd be grandpa. The point is the fake punt was not needed. It was unnecessary at that point in the game.

well said... Nothing else needs to be said

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

Anyone happen to count the number of plays Welker was in on?

I'd bet by the end he spent just as much time on the field as usual even with his 'benching,' he fielded the very first punt IIRC.

If he was told not to do something and did it anyway he needed to be punished, even with something symbolic like what happened today.

This loss was hard to swallow, but what would be worse is ending up with a bunch of clowns and malcontents instead of the professional, workmanlike team we've had for a decade now.

and if they made it you'd probably call it gutsy. There was a lane.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

That's just it. It's one and done. You do everything you have to do to win the game. Do you think that benching Welker was doing that?

I'm not a band wagon fan. Been around for 24 years. I've earned my right to criticize a bad decision when I see it. Short of killing one of BB's puppies, there was no reason to sit one of our best starters to "prove a point" in a playoff game. He can chew him out all he wants. But as BB likes to drive home, ALL of those 60 minutes count. So you put ALL of your best players out there.

I'm not saying that cost the game. I'm not saying that screwed with the other players heads. Just saying that I don't agree with his decision. But there was *something* wrong with the team tonight.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

Belichick made a point even though it was a detriment of the team.

Kinda petty.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

Was this the last year on Welker's contract? If so I wonder if he will be back?

He has a year left but, like Meriweather, if they aren't going to get them signed long term they may trade them and go in another direction. I love Welker but he's still best as a slot WR which doesn't fit that well anymore here with our TE. Edelman could fill that role and someone else (Price, OchoCinco or a draft pick) could possibly give us more size outside if Welker would cost too much money which is very possible.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

Do you think Belichick was trying to make a point about how classy the organization is in benching Welker? Almost showing Ryan how he controls his players unlike how Ryan handles his players. I just can't see doing that in a do or die game.

Had to be or else why not make him run a few laps after practice for punishment?

He's punishing his whole team by benching welker.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

It might well have been. I disliked the move even before the interception, and as soon as that happened I texted my cousin saying "if they lose by one possession, that will be the most second-guessed move of the Belichick era".

Of course, I was wrong, since the coaching staff outdid itself with the fake punt later in the same half.

I didn't even know that Welker had been intentionally benched. That's just another WTF move that makes you wonder. Everything was going so well. And then all these little bad decisions just ended up blowing up in our faces.

God it would be a wet dream to get rid of welker, spikes, merriweather and Tate. Then bring in a big time wr that can fight for the ball to pair with Gronk. Finally, promote edelman to do welker's job when needed.

Re: Benching Welker- Pathetic

ok here's my possibility:

What if he sat Wes to show the Jests that he was punishing him and they didn't have to? Ya know, save Wes from some cheap hits that could shave years off his career...
