I don't think Brady's arm is hurt because I've seen him throw very long with good velocity, often into the stands.

Baseball pitchers get out of synch with their mechanics.

He has had to adjust to new receivers, pull the ball down with some blown routes and he's thrown some INTs.

I think the Testaverde move is to be a De facto QB coach.

It saves him from having to hire an actual QB coach and admitting he made a mistake and undermining his boy wonder Skippy the Coach.

Just my take.

These are true words you speak. I do hope TB doesn't have one of those "tired arm" thingies again.

"Skippy the Coach"...I like it. Henceforth, I shall refer to thee, JMcD, as...SKIPPY (the Coach). Sung to the tune of "Felix the Cat", if you so choose.

One of the PFW guys, think it was Paul Perillo, was on WEEI today. He was talking about what a typical reaction it is for fans to blame coaching or play calling in any sport when a team loses. When 9 out of 10 times it's execution or the lack thereof that ultimately results in the loss. It's just a cop out to assume another play would have worked if the odds are they don't execute that correctly either.

He was also talking about the play action as an example of a play that they are struggling to execute. The timing just hasn't been there yet this season. Add to that the play action won't fly in the face of a committed pass rush, and Tom has certainly been facing a lot of that lately. He doesn't have the two or three extra seconds required to sell it when defenses simply aren't buying. So running it lately just waste's valuable time to see the field, go through his progressions, he's in the tackle box so getting rid of the ball is extremely problematic and he's getting sacked enough without sending out invitations. Hence the absence of a lot of play action.

I don't think we need to panic after a couple of close games against teams that obviously are not perfect themselves. But the point of this thread, as well as your recent thread, is that the coaches are going to have to work their mojo and do something different, because what we are doing now ain't working anymore.

If defenses can tell what we are doing ahead of time to the point that they shut down Maroney, we need to change up. If Brady is getting killed, we need to change up. Obviously, play action won't work if the other team already knows what we are going to do.

It is time for Belichick to pull out some brilliant coaching, because things aren't working well. They have stuck to their hardcore value style of cap management, and it is time for Belichick to make it work.

The execution has been bad lately, especially in the Colts game, but at the end of the day, the coach has created his team based on his philosophy, and nothing really appears to be working right now at any position. I don't see the Vinnie signing as anything more than a back up in case Brady dies from the pass rush during these next several weeks. To call him a coach of any type makes very little sense to me. We have all witnessed Brady taking a two season beat down, and at this point, even Belichick must be nervous.

I think Perillo is correct that fans are quick to react to bad games, but I think he may be missing the boat if he thinks that things are rosy right now in the coaching and play calling category. Execution is bad, for sure, but it is starting to appear that Belichick is being out coached, and perhaps the offense is easily shut down because it is predictable.

When I see Brady getting killed out there and our run game either MIA or ineffective against the two worst run defenses in the league, I am starting to wonder if we are headed down an ugly path.

Not jumping off a bridge just yet, but hoping that Belichick comes up with something good. Time for him to amaze us all again. Crossing my fingers.

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thuis year's play calling and play selection is reminiscent of the pre Bill Belichick era. It is pitiful.

:D

This years play calling actually reminds me of the 2000 campaign, where it seemed that the plays being called didn't fit the personel on the field. Hate to see what happened to Drew that year happen to Tom. Drew was killed every game. But on the positive side, 2000 led to - 2001. Is this year part of a learning curve? Hope so.

Last night on the late edition of NEST, Steve DeOssie showed that the Jest and the Colts knew excectly what play was being called and where it is being run.

The ones that he showed were running plays with Maroney. It shows the middle LB signaling to the SS. Then the SS blows into the "hole" that Maroney is running and nails him before he can take a second step.

DeOssie didn't know who is giving the "tell". Brady or Maroney or someone on the OL.

Normally on NEST there is very little substancial but this was informative. It will be interesting to see if the Patriots get that squared away.
Trying to pick out what behavior is signalling the MLB (who is going to be fairly expert at reading an offense and picking it out on tape) from the TV tape is going to be fruitless. If DeOssie, who would likely have access to coaches tape, couldn't pick it out (or kept the actual "tell" to himself to not expose the Pats more than they do themselves) then I won't see it. Maroney is a rookie, as such, he will be doing some things by rote because the coaches are drilling him to do it that way instead of freelancing and making a bigger mistake. He is improving at hitting a crease, but he still likes to look for a hole and will jitterbug before squaring up and running downhill.

NEM's play action has been used, when it is being used the Pats are using 7 blockers, but NEM doesn't watch the games as much as he lectures and screams at the TV for his audience at the Vine.
