It's pretty crazy that the division with less talent (FCS/I-AA) has the right championship format (20-team playoff bracket). The BCS has improved itself from the way it was ~5 years ago, but it's not hard to go from horrendous to bad... the system is completely broken and all about the wrong reasons.
I wish they would just play all the bowls with their traditional assignments and then have a 4 team playoff for the winners of the 4 BCS bowls. That way you make the bowl purists happy and get a playoff, plus once traditional matchups will be retained.

You've now all watched a game whose result will be vacated within the next few years.
+1. Newton didn't win the Heisman Trophy; rather he is just borrowing it. Ditto Auburn with the Championship.

Heck I think it's even worse than that. I remember reading somewere that there are something like 73 Division I College Sports and 72 of them have some sort of playoff system.

Well it sure would have resulted in a lot more tickets sold to the Orange Bowl. The upper deck of that stadium was very sparsely populated.

College Football used to own New Year's Day, and playing on New Year's Day was considered a big accomplishment. Now New Year's Day is just an afterthought. I would love to see a New Year's Day Football Final 4. Imagine this year Stanford-Auburn in the Orange and Oregon-TCU in the Sugar, with the winners to meet the following week in the Rose Bowl.

I was excited that this year 2 BCS games were played on New Years for the first time in... 15 years? But they were all moved to ESPN and so nobody watched them.

Well, they've always had at least 2 BCS games on New Year's Day. The Rose in the late afternoon (except those rare years where the Rose Bowl hosted the BCS Championship game and it was the actual bowl game and not the generic "Championship" game) and then another BCS game at night. Last year, I believe it was the Sugar.

But the sad part is that those games are just afterthoughts. 10,000 empty seats for the Fiesta.

You're right, I don't know why but I had actually thought that after the Oregon - Penn State game in 95 that at least half of the Rose Bowls had been moved to different dates but its really been more like 3.

Meanwhile, its the morning after the national championship and the Boston Globe doesn't even carry a story about who won.

Is anyone else not impressed with Cam Newton? Slow release, half assed fakes and play action, poor decision making. The NFL will spit this guy out.

BTW anyone else think Nick Fairley would make a nice 3-4 DE and Antoine Carter would make a nice 3-4 OLB for the Pats?

I know it is probably too early to tell, and I am by no means a football scout/coach.....but I don't think he will make it in the NFL either. Now Fairley on the other hand.....is going to be very good in NFL in almost everyone's opinion.:

Damn fell asleep in the 4th quarter lol. Must of been a good finish.

considering that i was watching the game and when oregon got a fumble recovery with 454 left i said....holy crap....a td and 2 pt convo and they tie this thing.....yep....you did!!!!

felt like auburn led by 14+ for much of the 2nd half/4th quarter. Do yourself a favor and youtube Michael Dyer's run in the final minute...or watch SportsCenter and you'll see how the game was won.!!!

Just watched it crazy. Chargers game came to mind. I wonder why they went for it at the 1 yard line at the end of the game. Why risk a fumble?

I've never been impressed with Cam Newton. I'm still not sure why he's considered a first round talent... even with this quarterback class being as bad as it is. His mechanics are absolutely god awful.

That's because college football really isn't that big in Boston unless BC is doing well, IMO. College football is huge in the south and Midwest no matter what.

Jamarcus Newton is going to have the same problem in the NFL we've seen countless times before: He can't pass well but he dominates in college because he is literally bigger, stronger and faster than all but 1 or 2 of the guys on the other side of the ball. In the NFL, that will no longer be the case.

I don't think Newton is ready for the pro game either. But he seems to have a solid head on his shoulders and works hard. I think he'll continue to work hard wherever he goes and have a chance to be a solid QB. He's no Vince Young... he has the smarts to adjust, and obviously has a ton of God-given talent.

:confused: It's a headline on the front page of my Globe, and the top story in the sports section.

"Solid head On his shoulders"? Are ya serious? This guy has been dogged by controversy his entire college career. He got kicked out of Florida for (among other things) being in possession of a stolen laptop. And anyone who believes he didn't know his father was actively soliciting payoffs on his behalf is welcome to purchase some swampland in Florida I am selling.

But, much like Michael Vick, his success on the field of play has led to him being deified by a fawning media and a gushing public.

Not just in possession, he stole it. Auburn fans like to say he bought it from the person who stole it - in fact, he stole it and attempted to destroy evidence. Go to thesmokinggun.com and search for "Cam Newton" and read the police report or just go directly here : :D

Indeed.

+1. That's another one of those "if you believe Newton, I have some swampland to sell you" type of stories. But he can run really fast so he is being feted in sickening fashion.
