I think Ryan is going to experiences some upsets in Foxboro like Dungy did before he might win something big, and Sanchez is going to feel the pain like what BB did to Peyton years ago.

Re: Rex Ryan cant help himself or is he playing mind games?

At the end of the day, who ever have the best team, and plays better will win. Rex Ryan and his team have talked trash about the Pats and then came out and beat them, and they have talked trashed about the Pats, then lost. Bulletin Board material is overrated.

Re: Rex Ryan cant help himself or is he playing mind games?

Of all the people to try to anger, Bill Belichick. The guy has the temperament of one of those British Buckingham Palace Guards with their big bearskin hats. Those guys take a lot of abuse without blinking an eye.

Two can play that game.

The guy's just a classless gross pig. After the Pats trounce the Jets and the Jets go 7-9 next year, he'll stumble through one more year and then get canned.

It is a good idea to try and convince his team that they weren't inferior as players in the last game, it was just the game plan. No problem with that.

It is stupid for him to do it publicly instead of just privately with the team, however. Nothing to be gained from that. But I suspect he doesn't have that kind of rapport with the players at this point.

To be calling out Brady and BB? Does he really think he can distract either of them? Wow.

56-0, and don't even glance at their sidelines or say a single thing to their faces during the game. No celebrations of anything during the game. When it is over, jog off the field and start talking about Pitt/Balt as if this game didn't even happen. Act like this is just another day at the office and they are irrelevant.

Re: Rex Ryan cant help himself or is he playing mind games?

Of course he's playing mind games and there is a reason behind the madness. At the very least, Rex is putting the pressure on himself....but lets be real here. 1) the act is old already and 2) can you take a man that wants to see his wife gang-banged seriously?

Don't be foolish folks, the Jets could very well win this game. They are healthier than the last time we met them and they do seem to play on a different, higher level, in the playoffs. If they win, it will be because of better game plan and better execution....not salvos being thrown via hungry media.

Answering the original question, both. He is a sadist, he liked to dominate other people, he has a damaged frontal cortex he has no inhibition. If he weren't from football, he would be a cop, a really annoying, power-hungry cop. Or in jail.

This. He just doesn't have any other tools in the toolbelt, so he keeps grabbing the hammer and swinging.

Cue up the circus music!

Be forewarned, it isn't a great show. You can only fit 1 in the car, tops.

You know, watching him on TV yesterday, it struck me that the guy truly is mentally ill. Something in his eyes....he looks crazy. And not in a fun way.

“When you look at it, both teams are very even,” Ryan said. “When you look at the players, our teams are solid across the board. When you look at the assistant coaches, we’re on level ground. So this is going to be about me raising my level against Bill Belichick. I recognize he’s the best. But I’m just trying to be the best on Sunday. And I plan on being the best coach on Sunday.”

The Patriots don't have a titled offensive or defensive coordinator and, compared to most of the NFL, the team is short-staffed. It's good to see that Rex feels that puts it on level ground with the Jets staff.

Bill Belichick on the matchup between him and Rex Ryan: "I might have a little quickness on him. He's probably got a little more strength and power on me. I don't think you see either one of us out there making any blocks, tackles runs, throws or catches. I bet you won't see me doing any of that. It's probably a good thing for our team." Patriots RapidReports

This has got to be the funniest comment I've heard from BB in a while now. LOL

There's no sense getting riled up over the comments. At this point, the guy clearly has a strategy. He's being deliberately provocative. This is not Rex "speaking his mind." This is a guy who has gone all in with his strategy of trying to be antagonistic in the press and trying to tweak the Patriots, Brady and Belichick in an attempt to get under their skin.

Will it work? History indicates no. Then again, they lost their last game to the Patriots 45-3, so what does he have to lose? Like it or not, Ryan does seem to have his finger on the pulse of what works with and for his team. He's 3-1 in the playoffs in one plus seasons, all on the road. And he's also largely teflon -- tripgate, footgate, it just makes him stronger. I thought his bluster during las year's playoffs had to be counterproductive, but it wasn't. He's clearly decided that trying to get his guys to play up to the level he sets for them outweighs any perception that it will fire up the other team.

He's doing it deliberately. Getting worked up about is like getting worked up about who wins or loses in pro wrestling. You're being put on. Getting too emotionally tied up in what Rex says is a losing game. It's the mental equivalent of wrestling with a pig -- the pig loves it and you get filthy. If the Jets win on Sunday, it will make you even more miserable. If the Patriots win, it's not going to change Ryan one bit or shut him up next time. If anything, it will just make him more outrageous.
to be fair, it did work in game 1 in nyc last yr when he talked and hyped up the matchup by leaving voicemessges to fans to be loud etc etc. pats outcoached themselves by trying no huddle allt he game with the calling cards crap which they had never ever done before in a game.

well before the december game he thought jets were better everywhere except QB and coach. now at least he thinks they are even.

Kudos to the merge. No longer have to search N threads to find a comment or remember on which similar thread what was discussed.

Michael Holley just nailed it. What a narcissist. No HC no matter how egotistical or stupid has ever conducted himself like this - he just can't stop himself. He wants to be a bigger part of it than he is. I, my, me... It's not about his players, it's Rex vs. 53 players and their collective coaches... Except of course when they lose, and then it will be about Sanchize or Cromartie or the kicker or the OC or something...

Nice to know that he feels he'll be the better coach of the two with just a divisional playoff win. Aim high, Rex.

Pretty obvious what he is doing. Deflecting the media and the pressure away from his mediocre QB and his other players and directing it at him. I see nothing wrong with that, from a coaching standpoint.

Rex has only read one book in his life.

THE FOOT BOOK by Dr. Seuss. He read that, and made it his bible. That was enough, no more book needed to be read.

I'm thinking it was "Fox in Socks".
