Five Reasons why the Patriots beat the New York Jets next Sunday

Whoever plays better next Sunday will win

Way to go out on a limb.

To expand a bit on what you wrote, I'm feeling fairly confident that if the Patriots score more points than the Jets, then they'll likely win the game.

LT will never beat the Pats in the playoffs n I love it.
There is only ONE LT in NFL history. Please refer to Lady Tomlinson in the future as Lady T. Thank you.

Another reason.

Yes Rex Ryan: Tom Brady says 'best coach' does help him - ESPN Boston
Yes Rex: Brady says 'best coach' does help him

Responding for the first time since Rex Ryan appeared to take a shot at him by saying he gets more help from his coaches than Peyton Manning, quarterback Tom Brady on Monday morning said he agreed with the Jets coach's assessment that tutelage from Bill Belichick and the Patriots staff was a big part of his preparation.

"I get a ton of help from our coaches," Brady said during his weekly appearance on Boston sports radio station WEEI. "Of course we do. I think we have the best coach in the history of football. We have a great offensive staff, a great defensive staff that get all the players prepared.

'These are the things we need to do to win' and he's right damn near 100 percent of the time."

Brady offered an explanation for why he was at "Lombardi" instead of watching the Jets beat the Colts, something the New York media has had some fun with at his expense. The Patriots' quarterback offered a simple explanation Monday morning during his weekly interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI.

"I get very anxious watching those games," said Brady, who said he was checking his Blackberry for score updates during the show and was talked into watching the second half by his friends. "I was watching the second half and I was actually kind of pissed that I watched it because I didn't go to sleep until 3 in the morning. You just get riled up as I watch and then I start rooting for a team to win, and that's not really what I want to be doing."
Remember this! He wants to torment the morons from NY: Press or the team named J-E-T-S.

"We're all at the point this year where we're motivated by much more than what someone may say about us," Brady said. "We're motivated by the fact that we have a great opportunity to be playing a division rival at home in the most important game of the year. That's plenty of motivation for us.

Sanchez and Hasselbeck have already both won playoff games this year. One was actually good while winning his. So I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Sanchez playing well.
I would rule out Sanchez playing well. Sanchez sucks!

NFL Stats: by Player Position

Sanchez 62.4 Quarterback Rating against the Colts

The Jets have been exceptionally lucky with injuries this year (as discussed here). Only six players on IR? We have 14!

That can't continue forever.

When I saw that Vegas had the game as the Patriots are 9 point favorites...my first thought was that this was a Vegas teezer.....

They're trying to sucker people into taking the Jets and the 9 points.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the spread go to 10 plus or more by this thursday.

This post pretty much nails it.

Yes. Sunday can't come soon enough and I'll be chomping my nails. It's such a mismatch on paper and that's the damned thing...it's why they play the games, as they say. If only it weren't the JETS...if it were someone like the Jaguars it would be much different. It would almost have been better if the December game had been a squeaker win instead of a blowout win and they could have saved the blowout for THIS game. I don't care if it's not a blowout this time... Just win, baby!!!

i think the title should "Patriots should beat..." .One game anything can happen.Iam sure no one gave the 2001 pats a chance in pitt or in the SB.

1. Superior Quarterback play.
2010 Tom Brady - 36 TDs 4 INTs 111 Passer rating, #1 in the NFL
Mark Sanchez - 17s TD 13 INTs 75.3 Passer rating, good for #27 in the NFL.

To put the QB ratings in perspective, only 4 QBs in the entire NFL had a worse passer rating: Fossilized Brett Favre, Derek Anderson, Matt Hasselbeck, and Jimmy Clausen.
Now look at the TD-INT ratio. Tom Brady throws an astounding 9 TDs per INT he gives up. Sanchez meanwhile throws nearly as many INTs as TDs. Overall he has produced less than half the TD passes as well. One has to wonder if Sanchez' playbook has been 'dumbed down' or whether he's just not very good at producing scoring opportunities with his arm. It could be a combination of both.

Tom Brady is the best QB in the league this year. Mark Sanchez is not even an average QB. Just compare their play over the course of this season and it becomes evident who is the better QB. Brady orchestrates his offense to multiple scores each game. He has mastered the Pats offensive system. Sanchez barely manages not to kill his team with his mediocre play. In fact he got so bad at one point that Rex Ryan admitted that he considered benching him. Sanchez is prone to struggling when the going gets tough.

The Sanchez led Jets backed into the playoffs losing 3 out of the last 5 regular season games. He barely led the Jets to a 1 pt victory over the Colts with a QB ating of 62.4. Giving up as many INTs in that game as TD passes. 1 to 1. Not exactly a confidence inspiring outing. The Jets won in spite of Sanchez. Factor in Brady's experience factor, Sanchez shaky play and tendency to lose confidence and we have a game that can quickly go downhill if Sanchez makes just a few negative plays to start the game.

2. Winning the Turnover battle.
2010 Pats defense +28 TOs
Jets defense +9 TOs

We hear a lot about Revis and Cromartie but would you believe that the Jets secondary is medicore at producing turnovers?
The 2010 NY Jets only forced 12 INTs on defense. Tied for #25 overall.
On the other hand the Pats secondary forced 25 INTs. #1 in the NFL.

Winning the turnover battle is crucial and highly correlates with victory. It's no coincidence that the Pats gave up the fewest turnovers in the league over the final 8 games and didn't lose a single one of them.

3. Highest scoring offense in the NFL.
2010 Pats 32.4 ppg #1
Jets offense 22.9 ppg #13

It's no secret that the Pats possess the most potent offense in the NFL. Strong offenses can win Superbowls, especially with today's rules that favor passing, protect the QB, and protect WRs. We witnessed last year that a strong offense plus a good enough defense that can force turnovers can win a championship. If the game turns into a shootout, I'll take my chances with our offense versus the Jets offense. They just cannot keep up in that type of game. Nor are they a quick strike offense that is good from coming from behind. The Pats are always in any ballgame with their offense.

4. Homefield Advantage and Special Teams
Tom Brady hasn't lost at home for 26 straight games and the Patriots are 8-0 this season at home. The 12th man will be bringing the noise next Sunday. The Gilette crowd can get loud when they want to and have greatly improved in this area.

On special teams, Tate and Edelman have scored 3 special teams touchdowns for the Pats. The Jets on the other hand have 0 return touchdowns on the season. The special teams can be an X factor advantage for the Pats.

5. Coaching and Team Unity
And last but not least the difference in coaching. Bill Belichick has won 3 Superbowls with the Pats and 2 more with the Giants. Not only does he have the experience but he is incredibly good at creating gameplans and schemes that take away what an opponent does best. Perhaps just as importantly the team buys into what he's selling. Everyone shares the same team attitude and is focused on one goal, winning the Superbowl. Factor in that the Pats staff has an extra week to prepare and its players an extra week to get healthy and the advantage is clear.

Rex Ryan on the other hand is a blowhard and a media harlot. The press loves quoting him because he often inserts foot into mouth, figuratively as well as literally. His team meanwhile is comprised of individualists who love touting themselves and talking trash. Lady Tomlinson is just one example of this.

This Jets team also was visibly shaken and lost their 'swagger' after the Pats crushed them 45-3. Ryan decided to have lunch with the sulky Sanchez to smooth things over. But his team still lost consequently to the Dolphins managing only 6 points of total offense. As far as mental toughness goes, the Jets clearly don't have as much as the Patriots.

The Jets talk loudly but they don't always back up their brash words with their play on the field. Like the neighborhood bully, once you knock them off their perch they don't recover easily. Meanwhile they give up a ton of bulletin board material for their opponents to use. Bravado is one thing but it can and will be turned against you.

When you examine all the various factors coming into this game, you come away with one conclusion. The Jets should be the ones worrying about the Pats. They better hope they didn't shoot their load against the Colts. Because the Pats are an even better team than the shorthanded one in Indy that the Jets barely beat. Now let loose the dogs of war! The Patriots will show no mercy to their division foe come Sunday.

Great points...

Brad Smith's stats show two TD returns. I think he's pretty good on special teams and cromartie can be a threat too.

I agree with the rest of your points. I don't see a close game, but losing would be really painful. I think that's what has everyone's panties in a bunch.

I stand corrected on the ST TDs. Thanks.
There's a simple reason why I put together this list. A lot of the posters here seemed intent on posting why the Patriots should be afraid of the Jets. But nobody really seemed to focus on the Patriots advantages coming into the game.

After 'backing into' the postseason by losing 3 of their last 5 regular season games, the Jets have seemingly 'bounced back' to beat the Colts. But the Jets coaching staff took that game 'personally' as Rex Ryan put it. I wonder if Rex exhausted his bag of tricks to beat the Colts or if he has anything special left for the Pats. Rex Ryan clearly stated that it was his goal to beat Peyton Manning and the Colts.

That just more clearly marks the difference in mindset between the two teams. The Patriots never set out to beat the Jets or any other single team this season. That is a foreign concept to them. They are focused on getting that fourth Lombardi trophy. BB doesn't take beating teams as a 'personal' challenge. They just need to be beaten to accomplish the ultimate goal.

And a lot has been made of the Patriots defense being youthful as if that's a disadvantage. But nobody seems to think that is in fact an advantage because those kids just seem to play better as the game goes along and they don't look 'gassed' in the 4th quarter anymore. Young legs can keep going longer. Did anyone watch the Ravens get gashed in the first half by Charles and looking very old and slow?

The Pats have a great mix of veteran leadership and youth on their team. Maybe it is a little bit scary depending on 1st and 2nd year players in key positions. But when you have guys like Devin McCourty and Rob Gronkwoski, etc. that's a good thing. These guys have been coached up all season and are now looking like veteran players who know their assignments and just 'DO THEIR JOBS'. There's really nothing to fear when the players believe in their preparation and stick to the game plan. The Pats will have a great one in place for the Jets. They come off a week's exta rest and a week extra preparation.

I am SURE that the New York presses are busy writing 'feel good' stories about why the Jets will upset the Pats now. But guess what, their job is to sell stories and newspapers. They don't care about the reality of the situation. And the reality is that the Patriots have the best chance of advancing to the Superbowl of any team in the AFC. The Patriots actually match up better to the New York Jets than the Colts. Rex Ryan has his job cut out for him to avoid an embarrassing loss, never mind winning the game.

45-3 means nothing. Really? The regular season means nothing. Really?
Consider that the 45-3 game bothered them enough that they needed to bury a football and it affected their play in the next game enough to cause them to lose to a mediocre Miami team.

But that's just a hazy difficult to quantify mental factor so overall I agree. The last game the Pats and Jets played won't be enough to affect the next game itself. But will it cause some niggling element of doubt or insecurity in the Jets players as they prepare to try to erase the humiliation they experienced in December? Quite possibly. Even if the Jets coaches don't come out and admit it, I'm sure LT and some of the other guys in that locker room will be looking at it as a 'vengance' game. And that will be playing right into the hands of the Patriots.

Watch for the Patriots to methodically attack and destroy this Jets team come next Sunday. Not because they want to badly beat the Jets or set out to beat the Jets. But simply because the Jets are a necessary obstacle that must be vanquished and overcome in the Pats quest for the Lombardi trophy. And not only are the Patriots in an excellent position to do it, they also have the best QB in the league available to execute the plan and will their team to victory. By the way, Tom Brady knows what it takes to win championships. Let's not forget that in the analysis of our opponents chances.

The NY Jets only have lost two starters this year while the New England Patriots have lost five starters (four if you do not consider Kaczur as a starter).

Not having Ghost is killing us in field position. Graham has been money for field goals, but man do I miss those touchbacks. Brad Smith hurt his groin in the the Indy game but that just gave Cromartie an opportunity. Hopefully the coverage team can continue to do a good job of containing the return game.

I hope they dont lose to these chumps!:mad:I expect the jets to play much better. The pats need to stop their running game.

I've thought about this long and hard. Here is my list.

1. Jets suck.
2. Jest suck.
3. Jesters suck.
4. Jokes suck.
5. New Jersey sucks.

Yep, I think that about sums it up.

I thought McGowan was benched towards the end of the 2009 NFL Season. I was also hoping Chung would start over McGowan this year since Chung was a 2009 second round draft pick and McGowan has been so injury prone throughout his career.

I consider Mike Wright a valuable backup and/or rotational player and third down interior pass rush specialist.

Vollmer has stepped in for Kaczur at right tackle while Connolloy has stepped in for Neal at right guard since Mankins return.

Butler may turn out to be a better nickel cornerback than starting cornerback, however losing Wilhite hurts the overall depth at the cornerback position this late in the season.

Regardless of their running game, the Jets will still need to overcome the potentially poor play of Sanchez. Just take a look at the last game these two teams played.

http://library.kraftsportsgroup.com/20101206_gamebook.pdf

Despite the Jets amassing 152 yards on the ground on 31 rushes and a 4.9 ypc, the Jets still only scored 3 points that game. You would wonder why until you examine Sanchez stat line for the game:
17 for 33 164 yards 0 TDs, 27.8 passer rating. When your QB only completes 50% of his passes and plays that poorly. That's what happens.

The Pats run game was pretty decent that but not eyepopping.
26 rushes 101 yards 3.9 ypc 2TDs.

Now if you look at the Pats production at QB you will find that Brady was far more productive than Sanchez even thoug he had fewer pass attempts.
21 for 29 326 yards 4 TDs, 148.9 passer rating.

It doesn't take a math major to see that there was a huge gap in QB production and quality of play in that game. This is the one big Jets handicap that the media does not discuss. Probably because it puts too much of a crimp in their claim that the Jets will pull of an upset.

I have a feeling this game will be almost the same thing as the last game. Jets are being tormented trying to prepare for all of these mis-matches. They really dont have the personnel to stop the Pats offense.

The only way the Jets have a chance to win this game is if we win the TO battle by at least +2 and that is unlikely but who knows Seattle beat NO. We have no pass rush which doesnt work well with Brady. He doesnt turn the ball over without lots of pressure. We'll show up though. Maybe Brady will get hurt early

Is that what you're hoping for? An injury?

Wow...
