Jets vs Patriots - Take 2

Well, they'll be back....and the hype machine is going to be in overdrive.

What do you guys think strategy wise will be the difference this game? I would think the Jets will tweak their D to bring even more heat.

They have to get to Brady or he will do damage.

Think the jets will stay committed to the run ala Cleveland?

It will be interesting to see what kind of game plan we draw up for these guys next week.

It's gonna be awesome...

isn't it Take 3?

Re: Jets vs Patriots - Take 2

If they're smart, they should stick with tonight's second half gameplan: control the ball and keep Manning (Brady) off the field. Spreading it out and trying to score on us was the dumbest thing they could have done in the 45-3 game.

Re: Jets vs Patriots - Take 2

yup it is, take 3 sounds weird though..:)

anyways, mods please merge with other thread re: next weeks game.

- thx

Re: Jets vs Patriots - Take 2

good thing the jets dont have any big white runningbacks.

I think the Pats will win if they play a good mistake free game, but I am not counting on a blow out this time around. As several have pointed out on this board, last time we played the Jets they lost their secondary signal caller and punt returner (Jim Leonard) a few days before the game, AFTER they had installed their game plan. This time they will be much better prepared, and they were able to play good coverage against Manning all night (did they even try to sack him? It didn't look like it, they just blanketed his receivers).

I think the key to our game plan may not be Tommy per se, but BJGE and Woodhead. They will have to get the running game going and catch some good RB screens to make the Jets cover everybody. Manning's receivers weren't open, so I don't think we can count on Branch or Welker being open either. And, I cannot believe the Jets won't try to account for Gronk on every play with the way he's been playing. Our run D will have to be stout, and that is a worry with all the injuries to the DL. Also, our special teams will have to be great. The Jets won on a last second FG because Santonio Holmes had a great kickoff return that put the Jets at mid-field. If Sanchez had had to drive them from the 20, I don't think he could have done it. Short kickoffs are a worry that is sure to continue on Sunday, especially with bad weather in the forecast.

Sanchez played BAD, like he did here, but the difference is they were able to get LT and Greene going, esp. in the 2nd half. They were able to do that because Manning couldn't do anything in the 1st half, except that one long TD pass. Making Sanchez win the game with his arm is really the key. I don't usually watch his post-game pressers, so I don't know if he always has the demeanor he had last night, but you could have sworn he lost the game. He seemed almost pained that he had to go on. That, coupled with his almost laughable inaccuracy tells me his shoulder is a big problem.

Like us, if the Jets win the toss they always defer. I wish for once we'd win the toss, surprise them by taking the ball first, and drive down the field with some dazzling never-before-seen screens and toss-sweeps to the RBs or something (although I hate toss sweeps!). Getting up by 7 on the opening possession might scare the Jets out of their game plan.

What say you?

If the Patriots play sharp, no turnovers, or no big ST plays by the Jets, the Patriots will win.

That is not not a put down of the Jets, although I can do that easily, it's just the way it is.

Make no mistake about it! I believe patriots are superior to the Jets in every way, but mistakes can cost any team. So I agree, play like we have been, no turnovers and good ST, and we'll rip them up. The Jets gameplan yesterday it seemed was to NOT blitz Manning and shroud their receivers, I can only hope they play like that against Brady, he will rip them apart with intermediate passes, we know, time to throw for Brady spells disaster for the opponents defense. I can't wait to here the HYPE this week and especially what is going to flow out of T-Rexy's pie hole,
CAN'T wait, it's going to be a long week!

Our game plan is to sit down with friends & family, have a lot of great food and cheer for the Pats to kick the Jets butts.

What's yours?:p

take care of the ball

stop the run

get off the field on 3rd down

My game plan is to acquire some damn fine snacks for Sunday evening. If Bill were to share his game plan beyond the standard do your job with us he'd have to kill us... Our job as fans fwiw is to root them on...

That said, spread 'em out, run the ball, stop the run, catch the damn ball, win the turnover battle, avoid 3rd and long, limit penalties, sustain drives, play situations, don't settle in the red area, pedal to the mettle for 60 minutes. Bill did a lot of self scouting this week designed to ensure that is what they do.

BTW Sanchise did look troubled all evening and balls were sailing and it was Cromartie on that return...

No concerns about the Patriots offense.
Only concern is the Patriots DL.

show up

:D

I think the Jets run game is crucial both ways. Sanchez isn't good enough to win the game on his own so if we minimize the run game, we should do well. The Colts did a decent job in the first half but wore down, and that's when the Jets O started rolling. Having Spikes back will be very helpful here.

On offense, I don't expect we'll be able to take advantage of the safeties as easily as last time. But the Jets secondary still hasn't found an answer to whoever Revis isn't guarding, or the TEs. Pool and Smith both played well last night, but I still don't think they'll be able to shut down Gronk or Hernandez.

2010 Patriots Team keys to success (whoever the opponent is) :

1) Offensive line. They need to try and keep 12's jersey clean, push back be physical and open up some holes for the running game. Gotta like Mankins's play lately.

2) Echo what other posters said...get off the field in third down (bringing heat, disguising coverages whatever - just get off the field).

3) Playmakers. If we do get into a knock down, slug fest with them, we need someone to make a play, like Palamalu does in Pitt. These seem to spark this team. Get 63 rumbling and bumbling down the sidelines, Chung to lay the wood on someone, McCourty pick...something.

... Sanchez isn't good enough to win the game on his own so if we minimize the run game, we should do well....

.... but I still don't think they'll be able to shut down Gronk or Hernandez.

I agree with this ... however ... if the Jets can get a run game going and shut down Welker and ONE of the tight ends ... we have a chance.

I believe we formulated the ever-mysterious *BLUEPRINT* to beating the Jets in November:

-score early
-score late
-score towards the middle of the game
-and don't let them score

Looking forward to the 30 minute segments on ESPN discussing the almighty blueprint.

I agree with this ... however ... if the Jets can get a run game going and shut down Welker and ONE of the tight ends ... we have a chance.

I don't think the run game matters so long as it doesn't go off for 200+ yards. In both games, the Jets ran for over 125 yards. In fact, the Jets ran for more yards in the 45-3 blow-out than the week 2 win.

Week 2:
32 rushes, 136 yards, 4.2 YPA

Week 13:
31 rushes, 152 yards, 4.9 YPA

Revis should be able to take out one of Branch/Welker, but the TE is the tricky spot. For one thing, Gronk and Hernandez haven't been on the field together a ton. Usually Crumpler is on the field as a blocker, so the Jets usually only deal with one of the TEs. They just don't have anyone capable of covering Gronk or Hernandez.
