Overtime Rules.....

What if?....

The first ever Overtime Superbowl comes this year and it is also the first OT game of the playoffs?

The possibility exists that the NFL Championship, the most coveted prize in the sports World, is going to come down to a 15 minute period no coach, player, commentator or fan has ever experienced.

Would it be the greatest Drama of all time? or the biggest mistake in NFL history?

We have the better penalty shot shooters.

Dude, the FIFA World Cup is the most coveted prize in the sports world, BY FAR. The Lombardi is the most in the United States.

I wouldn't want it to happen, cause it means that the Pats would be breaking a sweat.

Re: What if?....

If this happens I want to see a TD on the first possesion and then despite the rules change one team would still lose without seeing the ball in OT.

lol, whatever you say... soccer is the ****iest sport ever made. And the World Cup was the most boring thing I've ever seen on TV... and that includes sh*t like Oprah and some Christian minister on TV preaching. "A nil-nil draw! Wasn't that the most exciting thing you've ever seen?" Yeah, rrright....

True. Soccer means you are the best in the country, Football is just the US lol. Either way football is much more interesting to watch but I honestly love watching the world cup as well.

Almost every country outside of the US disagrees with you.

That depends on whether or not the (1) the Pats make it to the SB, (2) this actually happens as a SB has never gone into OT, and (3) the Pats win.

If all of this happens then it'll be greatest drama of all time, if only 1 & 2 happen then it'll be the biggest mistake in NFL history. If 1 doesn't happen the I could care less about the end result.

Get with the times, bud. We are the world. Nothing else matters.

Re: What if?....

is going to come down to a 15 minute period
Methinks the OP started this thread because he doesn't know what the OT rules changes actually were, thinks they are something different.

As to soccer --- most the the US's opinion, including mine, is "it's a great game as long as my son/daughter is on the field, but on TV I'd rather have a colonoscopy with a Vuvuzela than watch."

In 1958, in what is widely regarded as the greatest football game ever played, the Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants 23-17, in overtime, for the NFL championship. That, I believe, was the first NFL championship game televised nationally, and went a long way to instilling the degree of popularity the game enjoys today.

Similarly, in 1962, The Dallas Texans (now the Kansas City Chiefs) defeated the Houston Oilers (now the Tennessee Titans) for the AFL Championship, 20-17, in overtime.

And in the longest playoff game ever, on Christmas Day, 1971, the Miami Dolphins Defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-24, at 22:40 after regulation (i.e., 2nd OT).

Why, even our beloved Patriots have been participants in a very exciting post season overtime game, defeating the Oakland Raiders 16-13, in what has become famously known as the "Snow Bowl". That was also the infamous "tuck" game. (Date was January 19, 2002.)

While a Super Bowl OT game would doubtless be quite dramatic, (and would indeed be a first in Super Bowl history) it wouldn't be the first time that kind of drama determined a championship.

I believe the OP was reffering to the fact that the new OT rules were instilled only for playoffs and then said what if the first OT of the new rules is the SB we would be playing a SB with rules never seen before in a game. He was not saying NFL championships and playoffs have not seen OT (even though the SB has not it still was not what he was saying)

Re: What if?....

The playoff overtime rules suck, IMO. If you're going to change it, switch to the college version. If you're not going to do that, then don't change it at all.

So first you bash the most popular sport in the world and its players then you bash a Christian for simply preaching the good word. I hope you have a nice pair shades... your going to need them in Hell.

To be fair, it speaks volumes for the rest of the world that soccer is the most popular sport, IMO. While I don't agree with all of Drew's post, I do agree that soccer is the ****iest sport in the world. These guys trip over a shoelace then writhe on the ground like they just suffered a compound fracture in their leg. Also, you get crap like this...

YouTube - Headbutt Fail

What a joke. It's no wonder why the NFL is getting steadily more popular overseas. They're finally coming around to a sport that takes some balls to play and watch.

So we've got OT speculation (fair), soccer bashing, bible bashing, hellfire, brimstone...we just need a dog faker reference and we're set.

That was always my problem when I played Soccer. Since I played football first habit was for me to stay on my feet, so if somebody got in front of me I just kept running....I don't think there is a foul for running people over in soccer but since we were kids they always called it.
