So who do you think pats will keep next year? For some reason I don't see McGowan back but I'd love to see him back if he's the same as he was in 09.

Page has not done anything noticeable from what I've seen. James Sanders is solid and I expect him back. Chung is a stud enough said. And Meriweather has a lot of talent but some people are thinking pats are going to trade him. I can't see them letting a talent like him go but, hey I didn't see them getting rid of Maroney or Moss either. I like Sergio Brown from the few plays he's gotten in there and they gave him a 4 year contract so he should be back.

If Bernard Pollard hit free agency(doubtful) I'd LOVE to see him here. Plays with a lot of intensity. And he wouldn't be able to hurt any of our players anymore.

I'm going with Sanders,Chung,Meriweather, Brown, and some veteran safety.

What do you guys think?

I hope Pollard drives his car off of a cliff.

Re: Safties next year?

Pollard is just like Chung but worse in every way and older

i think its worth pointing out that in his early games texan fans loved him for that

now they cant stand his poor tackling (no form) and his complete inability to cover (worst ever pass defence)

there is a very good reason he was cut by a terrible chiefs team.

Pollard is only 2 years older than Chung. Maybe I haven't seen enough of the guy but from what I saw him do vs the texans and ravens I though he was pretty good. I know stats don't tell the whole story but he makes turnovers and has a lot of tackles.

Ok, good to mention. Well this is why I'm not a coach :D .

Re: Safties next year?

I don't see Meriweather being here next year.

He's regressed from last year's performance and sources say that he's an annoyance with being late for meetings as well.

I see him being traded at some point.

Chung, Sanders, Rookie, Brown, McGowan/Page. Depending on how that Barrett guy from Denver is doing, he might work his way in there.

Our Commish is so bad I half thought this thread would be about changing the # of points you get for scoring a Safety...

Meriweather really doesn't appear to be the answer at free safety w/ Chung at SS. It's worth it to have Chung at SS because of all the plays he can bust up at the line of scrimmage, but given that he's below average in coverage, our free safety better be great in coverage and never let the defense get behind him, a mistake Meriweather keeps making. What makes sense is for BB to draft one of the top corners coming out of college and move that guy to free safety a la Antrel Rolle or Malcolm Jenkins. A free safety who prevents the big play and is never out of position + a healthy Leigh Bodden would complete the secondary perfectly.

Yeah. Meri was doing good early in the season. Now, he's not very good at all. I mean, how can you take out our own man (McCourty)?

Another time, he was really late covering and still missed the tackle.

IMO - trade him to NFC and get a 2nd rounder back...

I'd be shocked if they can get a 2nd rounder for Meriweather at this point, I'd be happy with a 3rd and would expect a 4th.

How ironic would it be if they trade him to the seahawks?

Maybe they could return the pick they're entitled to for Branch. :D

I would like to see New England trade Meriweather, if possible, for a 2011 or future draft pick. He has admitted to playing like an individualist on defense and has been spoken to and benched by Belichick this season. Perhaps, he isn't a nonconformist yet, but he still gives you reason to be concern about him long term. Like Maroney, how long will his draft position afford him leeway before your patience wears thin. His decision making is questionable at times. And he isn't a true play-maker or the impact player his talent would suggest. Does New England miss him as a starter on defense like they would Wlifork or McCourty?

In free agency, I would consider signing Eric Weddle if he isn't in San Diego's future plans.

I would resign McGowan. He plays on special teams too. Perhaps, you resign Page to a one-year deal. I haven't watched enough of him to write him off. I say, give him and McGowan another year.

I think Belichick could draft another safety as well.

SS - Chung, Sanders, McGowan and Page
FS - Weddle

I thought we would hang on to Meri until the end of his rookie contract then let him go to free agency. I think it would be nice to draft another young safety, and there is the luxury of having all these picking slots. It would be nice to draft a good cover safety to complement the people we now have. A good corner/safety would be perfect as it would add depth to two very important positions.

Yes, I would look at safety and corner as two positions to draft in the first three rounds, and it would be best to have one player to cover both needs. I'm happy with Chung and Sanders and Brown. Hard to think about McCowan because his playing style leads to injuries.

if we had only signed Darren Sharper...

The more I think about it, the more I believe that Big Bang Clock is not with this team in 2011.

Yeah... I agree !

He is late for meetings and seems to set his own agenda.
We got rid of the other non-koolaid drinkers....

Merriweather is the only non-koolaid drinker left.

I hope I'm wrong but that angle on the 66 yd TD by a 4th year player is dumbfounding.
