40 mph winds in Chicago?

You do realize that the LEAGUE has a say in whether or not a field gets re-sodded, yes? Hmm.. No.. I guess you don't. Several years ago, when the Pats still had grass, the league stepped in and forced them to re-sod.. Right about this time of year.. Because the field was so bad..

Of course, Dungy, Polian and the Colts immediately cried foul over it and started making BS claims.. but that is beside the point.

Yes, of course I realize that the league CAN mandate such a move. I also realize that they DIDN'T. I stated myself perfectly.

Don't you think Heinz would have been mandated too if they were in the mandate mood?

This obviously favors the Pats. Their entire offense is predicated on short, quick passes and yards after the catch. Does anyone honestly think this is a disadvantage with Welker, Branch, Woodhead, and a couple of tight ends who can box out smaller players?

Exactly. Chicago play Tampa 2. Brady kills Tampa 2. Welker, Woodhead (NLF), Branch and the TE Twins will love this. Long day for Urlacher et al.

When was the last time Tom Brady lost a game in the snow?

GOOD NEWS!

Winds down to 22 mph. Much more manageable.

Brady's accuracy will incinerate them.

I just hope the field isn't so bad that someone gets injured.

I don't know why Chicago fans think bad weather will help their team and hurt ours. Brady has played his whole NFL career in bad weather in the 2nd half of the season, and his dink and dunk style, with lasers rather than bombs, has been developed and used to perfection to combat windy/snowy/cold conditions. Do you know that despite the fact that Chicago is called The Windy City, that winds in Boston are on average worse than Chicago's year round? I think bad weather actually favors the Pats, since Cutler relies more on downfield throws. At worst, it results in a push for the Pats.

The field is a different story, I guess, but Brady also played on grass during the three winning Superbowl years. Again, if the field is THAT BAD, how does that not hurt both teams equally? The Pats actually changed from grass to field turf because they determined that the grass field was hurthing them as much as their opponents, and that it did not provide the edge everyone thought it did.

To me, the things that might hurt the Pats this week are: short week of preparation for an unfamiliar opponent; exhaustion from big hyped game on Monday night; let down from the same thing. These are the things the team is obviously trying to guard against.

Yep. Heinz and Soldier are consistently voted the worst fields in the league by players.

The resodding makes Soldier a clearly worse field at this point. WhoTF resods in freezing weather? Chicago's Park Authority (not team) owns the field and is completely clueless.

Actually the Metrodome held that distinction for a couple of years with philly.
If the field is not ready to play on, Im sure BB will make them fix it. SP refused to play Philly last year until they repaired the field. Its common for coaches and players to do a walk threw before the game.

IF this was a dome team, I'd say you might have a point but sense its not, and a team used to northern weather and wind patterns, Im not sure why this keeps being brought up. Its not going to make any real difference in the games outcome. Both teams will be hampered by the field conditions and weather. Im sure this is not what knowledgable football Bears fans are hanging their hat on. No idea why its brought up so much PatsDeb.

Don't they do the same thing every year? You would think they know what they are doing. Check out the highlights from the STL game at this time last year.

NFL Game Center: St. Louis Rams at Chicago Bears - 2009 Week 13

It was resodded just before that game and the field looked great. Some chunks of field coming up but that happens on grass. No huge seams, no players falling all over the place. I understand that it is cold but I believe the field is heated. The trick isn't getting the sod to take. The difficulty is that once damaged, the grass doesn't grow in winter so it doesn't repair itself. It just gradually dies in sections as they are dug up. Not a problem for the first game after resodding.

Fortunately the Pats are a bad weather team.

Can't really remember a game where the weather (wind, snow, cold, whatever) hurt the Pats more than it hurt their opponent...

I am not sweating the field or the weather affecting the outcome of the game. The Patriots practice on grass in the cold all the time. I hope that there are no injuries on either side and the footing is decent, that's about it.

This is going to be a good test for a young team to see if they don't get too high on themselves and suffer a let down on the short week. We all know that BB and staff will do everything in their power to prevent it. Focus, do your jobs and execute and everything else will work out.

The latest I saw on weather.com is something like snow showers to partly cloudy 24 degrees dropping to mid-teens and winds 22 dropping down to 14. That'd be lessing windy and just about as cold as last Monday night here.

If it will be similar weather as the jets game, then that is a very good thing. It will serve as a tactile reminder of how to play well and give a beat down. :rocker:

Well, turns out no snow but single digit temperatures and strong wind.

Shouldnt have too much effect on the Pats passing game. The majority of Bradys passes are less than 15 yards and he can fire the ball through the wind, it wont effect them too much.

Brady's strengths in the short passing game won't be as affected by the weather conditions as Cutler's strengths of the deep ball. Also, while our young pass defense has improved dramatically, windy conditions can only help them. If our run defense can do the job against Forte, this could be a great assist from mother nature in shutting down the Bears.

Guys I'm starting to get concerned about this game cause of the weather. On a perfect weather day I think the patriots win by a touchdown, but with this weather anything can honestly happen. Look at this forecast...

Sunday: Snow and areas of blowing snow before noon, then snow likely and areas of blowing snow after noon. Temperature falling to around 23 by 5pm. Very windy, with a north northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to between 35 and 40 mph. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Sunday Night: Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. Wind chill values as low as -8. Windy, with a north northwest wind between 25 and 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

50 mph gust? Its really going to be a tossup I feel which sucks for the patriots cause they are the better team

I am concerned about the weather + a shytty field, resodding in December???

Have you watched the Bears lately? Because of their weak OL, Cutler is firing short pass after short pass and he has been doing very well. Watching their game against Detroit, I couldn't believe how quick he was getting rid of the ball....slants and to RBs releasing.
