Is this Belichick's best coaching job ever?

I absolutely believe this is his best coaching job for a few reasons:

A. It doesn't get talked about enough how in addition to being head coach, he is also OC and DC. Yeah, I know he has guys (O'Brien and Patricia) but he's the "official" OC and DC right now.

B. This is his youngest team. Guys, the Patriots are winning with first and second year players mostly. Tom, Vince, and Wes help out tremendously, I'm sure, but it's Bill's team and his system in place that's making the young guys successful. Look at the improvement from week-to-week, particularly on defense. It's astounding.

C. Choosing to unload Moss could not have been an easy decision for him, but he did it anyway. There aren't many coaches in the league that would have done that. Having job security like few other coaches enjoy definitely helps, but he's not afraid to make tough decisions. Getting rid of one of the greatest offensive weapons of all time is not easy, but he wasn't afraid to do it.

I could have probably listed more and will at some point, but these are just a few of the things that immediately came to mind. I just got home from work and haven't even changed clothes yet.:)

Voters wont give him merit points for that as the team still has a bunch of coaches on staff.

3rd youngest in the league. No question he deserves some props for this.

The decision to unload Moss is not a coaching thing- it's a GM thing. Your point about winning without him is completely valid.

Belichick has 100% of the attention of people all the time. Grumpy Gerard Warren is looking like a kid and playing NT when necessary. Mankins leaves, comes back, no issue at all.

Players don't perform, there just gone, no question. maroney, Moss etc. etc. move on. Left with big holes, he's not even picking up vets, he;s inventing players. Arrington a starting corner? Woodehead replacing Faulk BJ a starting RB? Is he hypnotizing people or what? Brace is in, out, better than ever Deaderick? Ninchovich? what?

100% focused. i didn't even worry about that Browns game. Gronk sucks one week, he's the whole game plan the next.

I really think people need to look at what's going on, because i doubt you'll ever see a coaching job of picking a young team with lots of flaws up by the short hairs and propelling it.

Just my opinion.

I would say 2001, he created a winning culture with a bunch of players who everyone said weren't that good. Under BB's leadership they quickly changed that sentiment and over the next couple of years they proved they were not only that good but they are amoungst the best of alll time.

A bit off topic, but I thought this was a good comparison to what other coaches are going through right now:

As of right now, i'd say 2008, but this year is certainly looking good so far.
I cant vote for 07, because of how it ended. Yes, I blame BB as much as the refs ;)

Belichick is definitely one of the best Patriots coaches of all time.

you mean, he IS the best Pats coach of all time :D The more he coaches, the less i remember those other guys ;)

Too early to tell. Let's see where we are by the end of the season.
I agree. By the end of the season we'll have a better indication. If the Pats win the Superbowl with this young side then I am inclined to say yes.

Let's hope it becomes BB's best year.

so who is #1? Im "jacked" and "pumped" to find out :D

Not this guy.

This is BB with youth around... I've noticed this - we got used to veteran teams, but back in the 2001-2004 years, remember all the "coach 'em up" talk? You also have to wonder about the difference between guys that "made it to the top with you," like Romeo and Charlie, vs. guys that were at the top when they started, basically. W/Romeo and Charlie, they didn't start off with "what is my place on this dynasty?" I dunno, just woolgathering.

Watching the young D have its ups and downs, seeing BB really engaged on the sideline shots, it seems almost like a "Morning in New England" commercial... there's some teaching going on here, some patience with young guys who aren't known quantities yet. You always have some of that, but typically they don't start for 3 years in NE, while known quantities that are a cut above the JAGs hold down the fort.

There's a certain energy that comes from working with guys who have not yet emerged, but might just do so.

Oh yeah one more thing - being one of the favorites to go to the SB? That's NE rebuilding.

One thing that we should also notice, besides the amount of coaching that he's doing with the younger guys, is the amount of coaching that he's doing with Patricia. If you notice, Patricia is always close to Belichick... no doubt soaking up knowledge from a great defensive mind. What will be telling is when Patricia starts moving further and further away from Belichick on the sidelines. When that happens, it's going to be Patricia assuming more and more of the defensive responsibilities and calls.

Good human nature observation Kontra... and ya gotta wonder, when they're out there away from BB on the sidelines... what goes through their heads?

Will it be different for a Patricia than it was for a Mangini?

Everybody wants to be a head coach. But when "The Dynasty" is set and you're the new "moving part" in a BB machine that is so successful, does that put a fine point on ambition (i.e., the Mangini case)?

Is a Patricia more likely to think, we have a project here in NE (as opposed to an accomplished project to just maintain?)

Mangini could only fu(k up in NE, and it was a 31 of 32 chance he would. A Patricia will be a coordinator on one of 32 teams, even if it is one of the better ones.

More woolgathering. I know I'm not psychic. It's just that kind of morning.

This could be his best job ever. The Pats are in a defensive rebuilt so to speak and they have hung around and gotten better every week, but for one horrible game against a up and coming team. IF and it a big IF they can play the way they played against the Steelers and make a deep playoff run, this might be his best coaching job ever.
