Hey, Great W, but anyone else not happy with a few calls last night ? I saw a few weird non calls, at critical times in the game, biggest one being the PI on Welker which was not given in the 4th Q. Even Troy Aikmen laughed and coudnt believe it wasn't thrown. Another missed call was that fumble, which Mayo recovered, tv clearly showed the Reciever caught the ball turned took about two steps and was hit before he fumbled. That play BB wanted to throw the red flag on, but reliazed he coudnt challenge and than called timeout. Just wanted your opinions even though we won which sometimes hides the poor refereeing. Great win against a very good team. Take care all. Abdul

You forgot about the one where Jerod Mayo and Adrian Peterson met at the goal line and Mayo STOPPED him short. The football did NOT cross the line at all! BB even challenged it, and yet it wasn't overturned.

The PI was clearly missed. T\Yes, the speed of the game makes it hard for the Zebras, sometimes, to get the timing of the hit versus when the ball arrives. That PI was not that close. I disagree about the catch and fumble though. I don't think it was clear and, imho, it was probably not a catch. I thought the left side goal line camera view did show AP had not broke the plane, however, it was close enough that not reversing it can't be considered egregious. I thought the Favre hit that knocked him out of the game included offensive holding. I saw one other offensive holding that to me was clear. Do they allow more of that for Favre? Maybe Manning?? Maybe even Brady???
However, overall I wasn't entirely unhappy with the officiating. Yes, they missed a few that were a negative on the Patriots (fortunately the missed and egregious PI didn't cause us to punt). With that said I prefer the Zebras keep their flags in their pocket unless it is obvious (especially no made up or BS PI calls). The Zebras appeared to let them play and I am all for that.
Big Kudos to BM for the PI.....he saved a TD.

The only call I had an issue with other than the noncall on the PI against Welker was the false start on Vollmer right before it. I thought the Vikings D-linemen had jumped well before Vollmer (and Neal) moved.

The D-Lineman did move before, but the d-line can move as much as they want, aslong as they aren't in the neutral zone when the ball is snapped!

But I do believe there is a rule about the D-line bating the O-line that can draw a flag!

Yes Chico, that was clearly on their Dl jumping early, glad we still moved the chains. Did you see how W.Welker pumped his fist after making that catch on a Big 3rd down obviously pissed off from not getting a blatant PI call on the previous play. Had we had to punt, we were going to be on the edge again like the Chargers game! Also I didn't think that late hit on Favre by ! Forget who now was much which they scored early in the game. Credit to Favre he wasn't looking for it, just got up to see where the pass ended up.

You could tell BB was pissed about that. He mentioned it a couple times during his press conference.

On the goal line, we thought we had them on the first goal-line play, the one that we challenged when Peterson went over the top. That looked like a really close play and then...I mean, there're a lot of bodies in there. I'm not sure exactly, but he got some penetration and made the play. Again, it was a great effort by our defense. It's team defense. One guy makes the tackle or two guys make the tackle, but you've got a lot of guys penetrating and clogging up gaps so that the runner can't run in their gaps. So it was a good job all the way across the board. It's something we've worked hard on this year. I'm really happy for the players that we had some success with it today, because we work on our goal-line every week. We take a lot of pride in it on defense. I know we felt like we stopped them on the one that they gave them the touchdown on, but it was nice to get that stop before the half. That was a big play.

Bill Belichick Postgame Press Conference - 10/31/2010

Overall the zebras are not having a great year and this game was no different. We were just fortunate not to have suffered insurmountable consequences as a result. You really do have to play to a level where they can't screw you or it's entirely possible they will. Some egregious bad calls and non calls yesterday that could have screwed us and it did seem they were all skewed in our direction.

NFL officiating is horrendous. The game is extremely fast, and you have 55 and 60 year old men, part timers whose vison and reflexes have declined, trying to keep up. As a 50 something, I know I don't see (or run) as good as I used to. The officials don't either.

Except that the D-linemen DID enter the neutral zone. That is why Vollmer moved.

And yes, there is a penalty that can be called. I forget what the exact wording is but I can remember that Vrabel was called for it a few times over his career as a Patriot.

One play that p'd me off..

....but then made me celebrate heartily was the play where Wes was blatantly hit well before the ball arrived by two defenders and there was no flag.

Then I celebrated by pumping my fist and wooted merrily when Wes took the very next play for a reception and a first down.:D

Is that what you would call mental toughness.

I mentioned in the game day thread about some of these.

In fact, on the 3 plays leading up to the Peterson TD, the refs fubarred all 3 plays.

Guyton did not lead with his helmet. Peterson did cross the goal-line on 1st down, yet they marked him short. Peterson didn't cross the goal-line on 2nd down, yet they gave it to him.

It also seemed to me that the Vikings were getting away with having 2 receivers moving and some false-starts there in the 1st half..

Definitely not Walt Anderson's best game..

Re: One play that p'd me off..

I totally agree....My dad is a very mild tempered guy and when that play happened with no flag he jumped up and said he had to walk away....I was fuming as well screaming obscenities at the TV.....then it was like a party when Wes caught that next pass between 2 defenders, jumped up and signaled 1st down, you could just see the fire in his eyes and the determination on his face.....I loved that.....But really how can you miss that call?????

I wasn't all to angry on the non-reversed call with Mayo & Peterson on the goal line only because in the previous play the Vikings scored the TD and were only credited with getting it to the (1) yard line. If they challenged they would of won because it was clear without a doubt that he had the TD unlike the one we challenged, it was stll pretty close.

Overall aside from the welker PI & weak roughing the passer call early in the game I thought it was a well officiated game. In that they did not try and take over the game with penalties like they do in the NBA.

Re: One play that p'd me off..

Oh i was absolutely irate after that play. Especially after the weak ass bull**** they called on Wilhite to extend the Vikings drive just before that. I haven't been that angry at a game in a long time. Poor officiating is one thing but then when you get a blatantly hypocritical series of calls, that really gets me.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like every questionable illegal contact/PI call goes AGAINST us and we've rarely if ever had one in our favor. And some games where it is completely blatant like yesterday. 2 examples that come to mind are the '05 nightmare at mile high and the '06 AFCC. I can remember specific plays where our WR's got manhandled and then ticky tack calls were called on Hobbs/Samuel in the end zone. Can anyone think of a situation where it actually went in our favor for a big play?

Yes it was bad. Definitely blew the AP TD and the PI on Welker, which was extremely odd after they made such a huge call against Wilhite the drive earlier that ****ed us over. Thank God they didn't blow the BJGE TD at the end too they were awful.

Re: One play that p'd me off..

Oh god don't remind me of the broncos game....Ashley Lelie all over Asante Samuel.....broncos ball at like the one. Bruschi said in his autobiography that he doesn't like to complain about the officials but, that was the worse call he has ever seen.

Re: One play that p'd me off..

To take it one step further. I was pumped to see Welker make the first on the next play. Then even more pumped the next play when Woodhead made another great play. It is great seeing two guys play with so much emotion and heart.

The funniest of all was Childress challenging Tates catch.

It seemed to me that he thought because Tate didnt retain possession like a sideline catch, that it wasnt a reception.

Im like, WTF is he challenging?

Re: One play that p'd me off..

I was furious with that play considering a flag was thrown on New England a few plays before on whilhite for a lesser infraction.

The NFL has to do something about illegal contact and PI. It is NOT being called consistently across the NFL.

It appears to me that whether or not PI or illegal contact or defense holding is called is simply the result of a coin toss. I can't see anything consistant with how it is being called.

And the spot foul stuff is crap as well. QB's in this league get rewarded for underthrown balls.
