OT: Bad MNF game beat MLB ALCS game in ratings last night

That baseball game last night was really good and so far these playoffs have really drawn me in. Last night was a no-brainer for me and I watched a few minutes of football at most.

I think it is a little sad that people would rather watch a poor regular season game than a good playoff one, regardless the sport. But who am I to tell them they're wrong?

Yes, I'm ignorant because I don't enjoy the same things as you. Offended much?

"Baseball is a horrible sport" wasn't really put out there as a simple opinion on your part. It was an offensive statement and you shouldn't really play the agrieved victim on this one.

You could have just said "I'm not a fan of baseball and would rather watch preseason football." That's have been fine. Making such a bold judgement of the game incited a negative response.

I won't agree that you're ignorant. I'll just say you're an over-opinionated loudmouth.

Right, and if people are getting offended over an opinion on a sport, then they need to get their heads checked. I'm not going to start watching what adjectives I use just so X doesn't flip their top on an internet forum. Especially over the word "horrible."

I too am ignorant

MLB is SO twentieth century

Thumbs up.

MLB is americas PASTtime. NFL is by far the more popular sport now.

Has the NBA passed MLB yet?

I'd rather watch Women's soccer than MLB.

Never could get into baseball.

A big problem with baseball is they refuse to really do something about salary. Check out this article

Josh Hamilton and his bargain Rangers face well-paid Yankees - Big League Stew - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

$206 million vs $55 million? Jeter and Arod make more combined than the entire Rangers team. That's not fun to watch. Sure, it's great to root for the underdog every series, and in baseball there is usually a major underdog, but it gets old.

Then, aside from the obvious complaint about baseball, there is also the ADD factor. America is doped up, everywhere you look are coffee ads because we need our jolt. Baseball is just too slow paced for the typical viewer to handle these days, especially with teams like the Yankees and Red Sox using strategies to slow the game down even more (fouling off hits, working counts, 5 trips to the mount an inning).

Football somehow masks how generally slow paced the games are, maybe with the clock always running, people always moving and preparing, etc. But in reality, we get about 5 seconds of action every 30-40 seconds which is possibly slower than baseball.. but it's just more entertaining to see the people move around, see the sidelines, and see the cheerleaders than watching a pitcher shake his head over and over before throwing a ball.

Everybody hates the Yankees and no one knows who the Texas Rangers are.

This. As soon as the Red Sox were out of it (by July, in my book, with all the injuries), I stopped watching baseball completely. My husband is a Yankees fan, but he isn't into it that much either. Probably the same problem some people complained about with the Pats in the SB in 2004 - we're tired of seeing the same team over and over; give us somebody new.

Football is always exciting at this time of year, everybody jockeying for position, and Vince Young and Chris Johnson are interesting players to watch. It was a real stinker, though, with 2 back-up QBs by the 2nd half. I watched to see how Trent Edwards (late of the Buffalo Bills) did - he's still as bad as he was there!

Why? By my count, the Rangers have been spanking the Yankees, and if not for a miraculous comeback in Game 1 would have a 3-0 series lead.

Well paid =/= good players. See AJ Burnett.

Base-ball is like watching yogurt ferment. You couldn't pay me to watch it. I'd watch a game from the final week of the NFL preseason before I'd watch any base-ball game, including the playoffs.

When the Sox are done, I'm done. I'm not gonna waste 3-4 hours to watch the Yankees.

It's clearly not a 'horrible' sport to millions of people spending billions of dollars.

You could say the same thing about NASCAR. And there is little doubt NASCAR sucks monkey balls.

I'm a huge Red Sox fan, but I rarely, if ever, sit down to watch other teams play. Even in the playoffs. Baseball seems so much more regional/local than the NFL - maybe it's the gambling, or the national broadcasts, or the fact that teams only play 16 times.

Plus, football is the absolute best sport to watch on TV - blows every other sport away. I usually prefer to watch baseball, hockey and basketball in person when I can.

I can't wait for the baseball season to be over

Outside of soccer, it's the worst activity ever. I can't even call it a sport

the millions have been shrinking year after year after year. I didnt even bother to watch 1 red sox game this year.

I go into a week long depression if I miss so much of the kickoff of a patriots game.

Lotsa hostility here to last century's premire but oh so passe boring as hell sport. Gotta luv it!

Apologies to the pink hats offended by the awfull word "horrible"

It doesn't = good players, but it helps. Every year we get to look at Jeter's stupid face in the playoffs, and every year they're a major favorite with a bunch of teams trying to knock off the giant. Roughly 14 straight years of this, it gets old.

I know the Yankees haven't been in the playoffs EVERY season since 96 (missed one?), and I know they only started spending like crazy around 01, but the same team being pre-season favorites to win the division, then favorites to win w/e playoff matchup they're in for all this time is just old.

In football, even a 'dynasty' like the Pats, Colts, and Steelers can sometimes be underdogs, and are all winners because of coaching and smart management, not $$.
