Hernandez drops

it happens....I am not worried.

It was two drops by a rookie. If he was a vet and droping pass like TO drives buses over his QBs then I'll worry.

He still leads the league in fewest times targeted per completion, 22 catches on 26 attempts. He's not just just leading the league in that category among rookies, not just among tight ends, AMONG ALL PLAYERS IN THE NFL.

By comparison Dallas Clark has been targeted 55 times with 37 catches. Above 70% is damn good. 85% is amazing. He has been a great target and had a brief mental lapse. I can live with that.

Happens to the best of players. I am sure he will correct it. It just boils down to disciplining yourself to secure the catch before making your 1st move.

I am really glad that we won despite his drops, because I think he might have felt greatly responsible, and that might have set the young fella back a bit. I doubt Brady will shy away unless he starts to drop everything that hits his hands.

He certainly has better hands then Ben Watson or "Stone hands" Dan Graham

Hernandez is weird like that. His knees begin under his feet.

If you don't think that Hernandez dropped to 1 knee trying to catch the 2nd drop, then you clearly weren't watching that play.

I was more worried about the fact he was laughing after he dropped the first one. I thought maybe he was trying to play it off, they show him on the sideline...still laughing:bricks:

Here is my pure speculation on what happened.

So far this season he has led the team in least missed catches. Moss leads the team in dropped balls.

With Moss traded folks started saying that he needed to take over Moss's role. This then led to him and his team mates joking around that taking over Moss's role does NOT include leading the team in dropped balls.

He then goes out and drops a ball. And while disappointed in himself in not catching the ball, he finds the situation funny given the weeks banter in the locker room. He and his team mates laugh about the irony of the situation.

If this is the most we have to worry about, I'm fine with it. Hernandez dropped a couple of balls, yes. But he still made an impact on offense for us and I expect Brady to keep looking for him. He's just too much of a weapon to ignore. I think those were just lapses of concentration. Usually Hernandez holds onto anything that gets near him.

What's to worry? He's a ROOKIE and rookies make mistakes. I'm sure he will hear about the drops from his coaches. He may be the steal of the draft.

Was I a prophet or chicken little in starting this thread early last season? Maybe a bit of both. Yes, he is great, but with a troubling tendency to drop the key ball that hit him in the hands.

Any thoughts? Should we be worried, or is it something that is easy to remedy? Seems to me in both drops he was thinking ahead rather than focusing on establishing possession. Is this something that can be coached out of him in the next week in practice, or should we be worried?

My first response was chicken little-esque, thinking he can't handle the big pressure situations. My more considered thought is that he is an amazing player for a rookie, and BB and crew will make sure he focuses on establishing possession first.

I think he is physically gifted (though not sure how healthy) but mentally weak. Which is a big blow considering the guy splitting #3 options with him Branch is mentally strong but physically weak.

It sucks that McCourty and Hernandez regress together, one is fine but both has hurt us.

Not worried about that drop. It seemed that Brady threw a laser and he had to twist his body back and it looked awkward. He did play pretty well the rest of the game. Had about 100 yards?

The timing and location fo these troubles is a bit troubling as most seem around the goal line.

Gronk should be receiving alot of attention from defensers as we head into the playoffs. Hernandez will be the x-factor if teams game play around gronk (though it could just as easily be welker that benefits as well)

How does improvement from one season to the next register as regression?

Please share all of your insight into the mental capabilities of Aaron Hernandez that led to this conclusion. Please include a recap of all the time you have spent with him.

A lot of good players drop the ball from time to time. Brandon Marshall and Roddy White are good examples of guys that get open and are great after the catch like Hernandez, but soemtime drop the ball. Sometimes, you have to take the good with the bad.
