Schefter: Branch to New England for 4th round pick

Thank you for a bit of reality.

The armchair GMs on this forum are nothing if not comic relief.

BB's got an Econ degree from Wesleyan, he knows there are only two things you can do with a draft pick.

Imagine if, in real life, you could only buy things once a year, and within a few years your purchases would be a success if you only gave 70-80% of them away for nothing?:D

Randy Moss gives the middle finger to Brady. Sometimes I wonder which of these rumors are true.
So we really got him? Hmmm, I don't know what to make of this.

doesn't matter what the Pats have in picks...Is Branch worth a 4th rounder?..I say no

Of course it matters. With a young team and 8 picks in the first 4 rounds, the expected impact of a 4th round pick on the team is significantly reduced.

I'm as draft-obsessed as anybody on this board, but I'm baffled by how much of the reaction to the Moss & Branch trades focused on the precise level of draft compensation. Clearly Moss wasn't shipped out of town because BB couldn't resist a juicy mid-round draft pick; the pick was just a side effect. And if they think Branch can improve this team right now you'd want them to walk away over the difference between a 5th and 4th round pick?

They're down a WR, and they found one who should be able to integrate with their offense better than most comparable vets. Fourth, fifth, fine.

The key with Branch is whether he can play outside. He is redundant with Welker, Edelman, and even Hernandez as a slot-only guy. If he can play outside-like he did in 03-05-then this works.

And stop whining about the compensation. We got a 4th rounder for Maroney. We traded a 4th rounder for Branch. So basically, we traded Maroney for Branch and maybe even moved up a few spots in the 4th round if we kept Denver's 4th and gave Seattle our 4th.

If someone asked you in Week 1 if you would do that trade, would you? I think so.

Disgusting news.

I am not thrilled about acquiring Branch just because I don't know how much he has left (although it could be a lot since the Seahawk QB situation has sucked so bad the last few years), but I don't think a 4th rounder is too much for a starting quality WR.

So I wonder who gets cut for Branch to join the roster.

Love getting Branch back..................

Hate the price.......................

It is what it is!

Branch for a 4th = fail, the only thing making me not puke is thinking moroney for branch, thats a win.

Why are people acting like this guy is a top receiver? He could end up injured riding on the plane here too.

A top receiver? Who said that?
worth a 4th? All day long.

Who is saying he's a top receiver? What we are saying is he plays well with Brady and Brady likes him and has a rapport. I guess that Tom Brady just has no pulse on the situation though. He should come here and be enlightened.

Crikey.

It's a fourth rounder people, it's not going to become the next Randy Moss. Price was a third rounder and he probably won't even play this year. What would you rather have? Deion Branch or the next Rich Ohrnberger?

I don't follow many poster's "he knows our system".

are you suggesting that our O system - or at least the core of it - has not changed since Branch held us for ransom??

Not a big deal at all. What made him good was his speed. Well several leg injuries later he no longer has that. He is probably the 4th best option at this time.

do not like this....... who gets cut for him???

**** this. Could be worse I guess

we have so many picks anyways...... our 4 I can live w/....

salary better be eaten by the hawks:mad:

People think he is going to be Moss' replacement and be that big playmaker that Moss was

I don't think anyone thinks that nor does Deion need to be that. We've got a pretty nice offense as it is but Deion adds another piece. Great move by BB. What do people expect the Pats to do with a gazillion draft picks, dust them once a week:cool:

Twig's back lol.

People will be disappointed in Branch when he turns out to be exactly what we expected him to be?

You don't say.

Because I think so many fans (ESP homers) are going to believe we are getting the SB MVP Deion Branch back here ...not the beat up, aging WR that he is at this point. I guess price is not progressing quickly enough....so welk #1, Tate #2, branch #3...with hernandez, gronk, and Edelman if he is healthy....with some woodhead sprinkled in there....GO PATS
