Schefter: Branch to New England for 4th round pick

What number will he wear? Probably 81...

I don't like giving up a 4th for him but he should help.

Sorry, but I think that's a bit silly. We've drafted 24 players in the last 2 years (I believe). If there's a receiver who isn't in a wheelchair he's worth a 4th round pick to a team needing a veteran receiver.

I don't mean to pile on you, but it's just a general pet peeve of mine. Draft picks aren't money, they are only worth what you can get with them. We have double picks in the high part of next year. We'll end up cutting good young players, plus probably trading into the future. The incremental value of a 4th round pick in our current situation is negligible.

I hate rewarding a traitor like him, but we are draft pick wealthy and veteran shy.

not sure why people are so excited about this...he isnt the same player anymore .hopefully its a football move not a nostalgic move..

Not happy at all.

Look out Deion, apparently you're on a short leash with some Patriots fans from the internet.

If Brady's happy i'm happy but honestly the most important question what number will he sport?

Can't believe some fans are complaining about the compensation. We still control the first 4 rounds of the draft. Quit whining. Welcome back Deion.

We effectively traded Maroney for Branch.

RIght because Reche Caldwell played so great for us dropping that key pass in the AFCCG....would we have won another SB with Branch on the team? I think yes.

That's a whole ****load of assumptions. Who the hell knows how different the ENTIRE 06 season is with Branch. And of course you don't have Meriweather today, you don't get 07 (Branch would have been making about the sum total of Moss, Welker and Stallworth's salary in 2007).

2006 with Branch is STILL less likely to win the superbowl than 2007 with moss welker and stallworth.

Old patriots are back!!!

Time to hang up the pictures again?

Well, he wasn't the same player the second he stopped playing with Brady. So perhaps he might have a bit of a career revival playing with him again? It's not a stretch. Not saying he'll be at 2004 production, but something solid.

Like someone else said, hopefully he has an LT style resurgence with NE.

I gave him #80 when I put him on pats earlier this week on madden :p

Do you really see BB as a nostalgic kind of guy?

First off, I'm not a fan of this trade. You over spent for Branch.

At the least, Branch is worth a sixth round pick. At the most, a fifth round pick. If Seattle is asking for more than a fifth, then New England needs to decline.

In my opinion, I don't believe Branch is worth more than a sixth or fifth round pick when you consider that Seattle should release him anyways. They've already released TJ Houshmandzadeh, and have talented wide receivers Deon Butler and Golden Tate and tight end John Carlson. And Branch is still an injury concern and he's an older player. Unless Branch is acquired to assume the other starting wide receiver position on New England. You buy low... Is Branch a better player right now than Tate? Because Tate at least gives you a deep threat option.

Personally, I would rather talk to either Denver or Chicago about acquiring one of their wide receivers. Maybe, Jabar Gaffney or Devin Aromashodu.

Moss, a 4th, and a 7th for Branch and a 3rd?

The Seahawks held the Patriots up with this deal. A fourth round choice was too much to give up for the 2010 version of Deion Branch. The only way this makes sense is if the Pat's don't have to take the majority of his contract.

Exactly what role is Branch going to fill for the Patriots?
