Reverse The Curse Of Deion Branch
By: Russ Goldman

The Patriots now have a chance to go back to the future and bring in a player that I believe is one of the better wide receivers in Patriots history. The Pats also have the opportunity to correct a mistake that I think changed their history. ...

I think there is a much more important principle in play here. Can we please put the terms "The Curse" or "Reverse the Curse" into permanent exile? It was nauseating when they did it for the Red Sox, but at least that was reasonably understandable and was pretty much the team that led to the origination of the term.

It just smacks of the lowbrow ESPN-ification of sports.

I think Branch has been on the decline. And the Seahawks likely don't want to pay 5M per season for a tertiary receiver in their offense. For that reason he should come cheap, 5th rounder at most. But how much will he able to help this Pats offense and will the Pats foot the 5M bill and draft pick for 1 more year of Branch?

Funny how every single receiver that played for this team during the Brady years went into decline once he left. I'd love to get Branch here if the money is right and if he is healthy. Of course, those are 2 big "if's".

Branch certainly has a grasp of this offense and could even help Tate, and Edelman with their routes.

Who knows maybe he can rekindle the magic between him and Brady.

Or maybe we splurge for Jackson, make a modest trade for Smith, who is a fiery competitor we need that I think.

Curse???? The guy was a big headed phony.....Would have been close to a curse...if they gave him up for ZERO and teh guy was better than Rice...BUT that did not happen...Calling it a curse is one if the silliest things I have seen in ages...Go back to writing about baseball with pitiful metaphors... Branch has sucked really...since he left and has demanded BIG money.. While I loathe what he did..it will take a LOT to cheer for him if he returns..I'd rather a pass on garbage...but you never know...Without Moss it will be different and a deep threat is needed...besides Tate...I would look for other options...not the low hanging fruit..easy to speculate Branch...Jackson...and see if they can find a real diamond deeper...

If you wanted to make an argument for something like the curse of Vinatraitor, you could do that; it's hard to see, though, how Branch's departure is exclusively the Patriots' fault.

In any case, the Patriots got far more for Branch than anyone was expecting them to get.

Whatever.

They offered Branch more money than he was worth and he spit in their face.

Oh I agree...Branch wanted the money..saw his friend Givens get a big contract..although as a late rounder got a LOT less initially upfront with the Pats..and DB was too stupid to be aware of that..he wanted HIS $$$..Not the patriot's fault at all that he tried to go back on his word of NOT sitting out and trying to hold up the franchise. I AGREE they got a lot out of him..but he was NEVER worth the money he demanded...injuries and TOTAL decline..THAT is why this CURSE is even MORE silly...DUMB analogy...

Alright wait just a second. I love Branch, would love to have him back. But this article...

1. How is there a curse!? This team has performed well since he left... even made it to a Superbowl after a perfect season and almost won. I know we like to make that a negative thing because the loss sucked so bad, but what other team could've even come that close? None of them.

2. We even did alright in a season where our star QB was injured the whole year. And we made the playoffs in his first season back. (Bengals are still trying to get Carson Palmer right after the same injury.)

We should definitely get Branch if the price is right. But we shouldn't expect that's going to reverse a curse that doesn't exist in the first place. WAY too much to put on a guy who'd just be getting here and learning a new offense. (This offense is not the same as when Branch was here. Even going "ball control" it's still going to be a lot different. We're doing that now with lots of 2TE sets and running back by committee not "big" type formations with a dedicated RB.)

You could say that about a lot of players, Deion Branch, Asante Samuel, Richard Seymour, look were there at. I can't even remember the last time the Seahawks made the playoffs, Asante Samuel is still playing good football but no dice as to reach a super bowl and his chances are getting slimmer, Seymour, well he's on the Raiders. Thats bad enough.

This Branch business is going on for too long... He burned this bridge.

Just let the youngsters see what they have. Tate, Hern, Gron, and eventually Price. They need time to play, which will give them experience. They also will 'gel' better with Brady as well as each other.

If you get Branch, he WILL get hurt, and that will be a waste of $$.

This Branch rumor better be just that. I understand (as much as anyone can) why we traded Moss but I would not understand this move from the front office. He bailed on his contract and forced us to deal him. Do you think for 1 minute that Seattle would do that deal again if they had the chance???
Branch has been over rated since his SuperBowl MVP and he sure as hell ended up being over paid! 5 Mil this year and next for a guy was is on the wrong side of 30 and with more past health issues than I can count. Well at least if the trade does happen we can fall back and take solace in all those 1000 yard seasons Branch has reeled off in his career.
