Shawne Merriman leaving SD?

If for some reason SD does release, or trade him (as this news update seems to suggest), I'm not at all interested in seeing him in a NE uniform.

It's all over twitter... ha

is on the block

could get cut if not traded.....

more overreaction from fans i guess.

we could definately use him.

And we've freed up some salary for him.

Apparently he hasn't been playing all that well.

Physically, I think he has all the tools to be successful in our scheme. Mentally, I don't think he could handle the patience involved. And even if he could, he absolutely hates the Patriots.

He's as big of a fan of the pats as LT is would be my guess.

I bet the jets will be involved.

I say "lights out" to that deal.

he'd bring intensity to the d. I can see him in gang green wayyyyyyyy too easily though. And seeing how this year has been about team chemistry. Really don't see this happening.

No thanks. Let the young kids develop. And save the money for the 8 new ones we bring in during the first 4 rounds of the draft.

I like the direction this team is heading in. The last of the headcases, over the hill declining skills expanding super egos are gone. Lets not go get another one.

i dunno i'd take him with a low rick high reward type deal... would love to see him playing with a chip on his shoulder, he was coming off a acl tear and he still had 4 sacks last year

Does he even have trade value? Maybe they can find a sucker but ultimately he should be cut.

The dudes got nothing left as far as I'm concerned.

I'd bring him in in a heartbeat. I have always loved his talent, inensity, physicality, toughness, and passion for the game. If all you had to give up was at the max a 5th round pick, whats the risk?

There is potential for such a huge reward in a deal like that. He was arguably the best pass rusher in the game from 05 to 07. People love to talk about roids, but he was busted early in 06. He had a great season the following year in 07. He tried to play with a torn knee because he loves the game so much. Last year he had his ups and downs just like Brafy did in his first year back from knee surgery.

He is a dynamic playmaker at olb when healthy, which we need badly. He is someone defenses have to scheme for and would be a huge upgrade. BRING HIM IN.

His skills "mysteriously" diminished overnight when he got off the roids.

or when he ripped up everything in his knee, one or the other. Very sad, I didn't like him but I hate to see Injuries ruin a career. Very sad.

Although I think a big part of him was the roids, I think any natural talent he has was absolutely killed by the injuries. Groin and ACL iirc. You're asking a player at a position to have the speed/power he did before with injuries to two of the main joints in the leg locomotion? Not happening. From all reports I've read hes completely lost his first step quickness, which is so important.

He hates the patriots.

He can f**k off.

Roids don't work by making you magically better when you're on them and then stop working. They work by allowing you to train harder than you would otherwise be able to, and you get correspondingly stronger. It's far easier to maintain strength than to build new strength, so his strong season in 2007 is not suprising. Once you get hurt, however, you can't train for a while and that strength goes away and without steroids to help, you can't get it back. He used steroids to get big while maintaining explosiveness. He then lost the explosiveness by injury and rest, retained much of the size, and got slower. The only legitimate way to judge him is on 2009 and this year, and he hasn't shown much. A low draft pick or free-agent pickup/tryout, maybe, but I wouldn't put much effort into it or expect much out of it.

he is a dbag but i ll sign him .
