Because we have too many picks already and we've freed up the money.

Draft picks are like crack ... i want more of them.

Because we have too many picks already and we've freed up the money.

The picks it would take to secure Jackson's services can be used to finish a rebuild of the front seven and the interior O-Line. I'd rather do that than give up the picks for Jackson, personally. But, then again, I'm not running the team.

I guess. But I can't really envision a trade scenario, even in a three way, in which we don't give up a high end pick.

Mankins is the wild card.Seattle does need oline help. They haven't been the same since Hutchinson left.

I am thinking Mankins/Jackson to Seattle for 2nd/3rd and Branch.

That 2nd and 3rd to San Diego.

For us, it's basically Branch for Mankins.

Many variations are possible.

The problem is he hasn't received anything and by our position, we are the "marketmakers" for the 2011 draft.

The problem is Smith is a ahole.

If this goes down, I would bet we get Branch via a three way arrangement. Seattle has alreadt played Seattle so there is no problem there.
Has there ever been a side in as strong a position as the Patriots are going into the draft before? 8 picks within the first 4 rounds is simply enormous.

Let's be realistic here. The Pats have amassed enough picks to trade for almost anyone and still have a crapload left. It's the equivalent of the Yankees payroll. If they can get Jackson, I say do it. The possible rewards outweigh the risks.

The risk of paying him a stupidly high amount of money up front and having him get suspended for a year is worth bringing him in? Not to mention the draft picks it would take..

What has he done to fix his problem? Isn't he also still suspended at the moment?

They can fix the defense with those two first round picks for sure.U would already have your wr.

I dont want Branch. He can stay in seattle with Mankins.

I will be happy with either or, but if i had a choice... Vincent Jackson... Deion Branch has chemistry with Brady, but jackson has more potential...

Couldn't we do that with 6 of the 8 1st to 4th round picks we have? We know that picks are not a sure thing. Jackson is a sure thing.

I don't want VJax or Branch, neither are worth money they are making (or asking for) or the cost in draft picks.

Because this one is better and much younger?

Bingo. Younger and a better long term option.

Since we are in a thread based on total rumor... I thought I saw something about the Pats having a strong interest in Jackson around the draft.

Maybe the didn't hold out for a 2nd rounder from the Vikings so they could turn around and say to San Diego... "See two 2nds is crazy, how about a single second and a 4th? Come on, please.. pretty please with sugar on top"

That pats 2011 nfl draft will be sick.:It seems like they want to acquire ridiculous amount of picks.

The possible rewards outweigh the risks? Seriously? He guy is one step away from a full year suspension and obviously not the best on judgement to have gotten himself into this position in the first place. He may be a physical specimen but is he "smart" enough to play his system? If you're not exactly where Brady expects he simply stops looking in your direction. So you're looking at giving up draft picks + huge money for someone who can't play for 3 game after signing AND has a better than 50% chance of a year suspension at some point after he does get back and who you don't know for sure can work within your offense? No thanks. If we're getting rid of picks and maybe mankins it would make MUCH more sense to get some experienced (good) defensive help and roll with the O they have

Gotta be kidding. Branch IS NOT THAT GOOD...

I doubt Smith has lowered his price. Smith wants Marshall-esque trade return, V-Jax want's Marshall-esque money, V-Jax is one screw up away from sitting for a year, and to me I don't think is as good as Marshall. All three of those things scare me. I would rather finish the rebuild of the front 7, maybe get Julio Jones with our first, or use later picks for maybe somebody like Austin Pettis to play WR.

this looks to be legit interest....

Mankins/Jackson would cancel each other out....

plus us giving a 2 or a 3.... and it will be done:)

if we exchange Mankins for Jackson...... there is no way we lose out.

I would welcome branch if they got the CB from seattle,Marcus Trufant.:D

I would give them the minnesota 3rd round pick we acquire but not a second round pick.I feel thats alot to give up.

Vincent Jackson - WR Oct. 7 - 8:40 pm et

CSN New England's Tom Curran reports the Patriots "have looked into the possibility" of trading for Vincent Jackson.
Curran characterizes the trade talks as "preliminary," with Logan Mankins heading to San Diego under one scenario. The two teams would essentially be swapping their unsigned restricted free agents. The Patriots are also believed to be exploring other avenues to upgrade at wide receiver after dealing away Randy Moss. Bill Belichick isn't in the habit of taking on players with contract issues, but it would be a zero sum trade on that level if he rids himself of Mankins in the process.

NE was rumored to have an interest in Vincent Jackson prior to their shipping Moss out of town, and we've since heard NE had been interested in trading Moss for at least the past three weeks, or so. Now, these Jackson rumors are picking back up, again. This all leads me to believe NE has a genuine interest in Jackson, but I don't know if they'll be willing to meet SD's demands. player trades are very rare, but NE sending Mankins to SD in exchange for Jackson could make sense, especially when you consider the fallout Logan's had with management. I can't see him playing another down in a Patriots uniform, so they might as well get something for him.

I don't really know if I'd be all that excited to see Jackson in a Patriots uniform, as I honestly find him to be a bit overrated, and a little to self motivated, but there's a good amount of smoke here...
