From a pure football standpoint, there's just no way this makes any sense if it really is Moss straight up for a 3d round pick.
12 games without a guy of his quality for the difference between a 3d and a 5th makes no sense.
The only way explanation would have to be (1) hubris, or (2) there is a genuine feeling on the Pats that Moss is or is about to become a distraction that will negate the benefits he gives us over the next 12 games. Frankly, I'm not sure there's actually a difference between number 1 and 2.
I suppose the other possibility is that this is a win for Randy and something he wants. He will get the big contract if this happens, and it's easier to do that now than after the year is over. But the Pats don't do players favors.
It just doesn't make any sense at all. Now, if we were really getting something significant in return, it would make sense. The Vikings are "all in" this year -- they need a stadium, Favre only has one year left, they have a tough schedule, and they need some help on offense. It seems like a desparate trading partner, and so perhaps it makes sense if we can get something significant. I guess we also free up some cap space if we lose his salary. Do we? But what are we going to do with it at this point. Bottom line for me: If this really is Randy for a 3d, he's become a distraction no matter what anyone says, or our team's brass has lost its mind.
