This ignores one crucial point: You lose his services for the next 12 games (plus the playoffs). Yes a 3rd rounder is better than a 5th rounder but is it better than a 5th rounder plus having Randy Moss for all of 2010?Agree with this. If we keep Moss and let him sign a UFA deal, we would get a (best case) 3rd rounder in the 2012 draft. If he doesn't perform with his new team, or if he signs for moderate money, the pick could easily be lower. Compensatory picks come at the end of the round.
So, a 2011 3rd rounder from Minnesota is clearly not the same thing. It is unambiguously better. And it's tradeable.
Call me crazy, but I consider the Patriots to be championship contenders year in and year out, this year being no exception. This seems to me to be the type of move we usually see from the Kansas City Royals in late July.
