Rumor: Moss to Vikings?

I want to see moss in Indy, dont you guys want to see moss in Indy?

with out ninokovich and chung, the patriots would have lost against the phins, we wouldnt be talking about trading moss that easily.

Unless of course the reason why we won against the phins is because moss sucked and the patriots defense had to bail out Brady, moss and the pats offense. then I can see why BB wants to trade moss.

Do you realize that this statement makes absolutely no sense? I mean without Brady we probably wouldn't have won 3 superbowls.

I think you're misremembering.

hey guys, vikings fan here. I wouldn't be surprised if we shop any of the following players along with a rd 2 or 3..

Chad Greenway, Madieu Williams, Tyrell Johnson, Asher Allen, Antoine Winfield, Bernard Berrian, Toby Gerhart, Bryant McKinnie, Greg Camarillo, Hank Baskett, Greg Lewis (if you would want him back), Ray Edwards, Jimmy Kennedy

But honestly, if you guys did trade Randy back to his RIGHTFUL HOME! I would forever love the patriots.. I mean you guys will cream everyone with the next draft (2011 or 2012 :/) but well enjoy our ring from 2010..

Players you ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT GET: Visanthe Shiancoe, Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, Kevin Williams, Chris Cook, Cedric Griffen, Steve Hutchinson, E.J. Henderson, Sidney Rice, Jared Allen

Don't be so sure,smartass......Sidney Rice is injured....he may be back,soon....maybe not.It would make sense for Belichick to steal Rice for later this year or the future.

That's why he's a GENIUS.......GENIUS:bricks:

I really want Moss to retire as a patriots above everything, but we could get something or someone great in return.

Re: Mixed Feelings on Moss

I think it needs to be said, nice and clear: WE ARE NOT TRADING FOR VINCENT JACKSON and the Chargers would NEVER trade him to us, anyway.

I like Randy Moss on the Patriots.....no....that isn't accurate.....I LOVE Randy Moss on the Patriots.....but...

I would also love to see the Pats trade him and throw in...yes...throw in a high choice or two for Jared Allen. Would the Vikings do it....not sure...I would hope the Pats would.

The Bengals got a 3rd round compensatory pick for not resigning TJ Houshmandzadeh this year. The Patriots would get a 3rd round compensatory pick at the end of the year if they didn't resign Randy Moss. So why in the world would they trade him now for a 3rd round pick? If Patriots actually wanted to get Vincent Jackson for a 2nd and 3rd round pick, they would just do it now regardless of a Moss trade. Why wouldn't they want Moss and VJ for the year? They would get a 3rd when Moss doesn't resign anyway, so the reported compensation just makes no sense.

one minor point...you can't trade a comp pick...a normal third can be packaged to move up and down...not saying a third makes sense just that the available options are different between a comp and a regular pick

I think you're misremembering. By all reports, Milloy was open minded to the idea of a pay cut and he and the Patriots were negotiating in good faith towards a new contract during training camp 2003. It was only after the Redskins stepped in with a better offer (what's a little illegal tampering between friends?) that Milloy suddenly and abruptly took a hard line stance with the Patriots, saying he would not take a pay cut.

That's why they cut him loose at such a late point in time. Then once Milloy was a UFA, he ended up with Buffalo and not Washington.

they had harrison signed in the offseason so they could afford that. if this was an offseason move it wouldnt have been a bad idea..but right now its just re shifting the whole offense and even our RBs arent any world beaters

I like moss but if he is traded I can understand and the team will move on

This thread reminds me of the "Bledsoe to Bills" thread. The sense if impending doom also reminds me of the release of Lawyer Milloy. It amazes me how fans are so quick to turn on the coach who has crafted the franchise into a perennial contender. I dont get it.

So far I haven't seen anyone mention the fact that this receiving corp doesn't especially need either Randy Moss or Vincent Jackson to win games. Hasn't anyone noticed that Brandon Tate has emerged as a legit receiving threat, Hernandez is a big athletic receiver with incredible hands, we have Edelman healthy and literally walking the sidelines, Welker is rounding into form and Taylor Price cant even make it onto the active roster with all the weapons in front of him. We won the SB with Troy Brown, Deon Branch and David Givens. We could do all that with Tate, Welker and Edelman, too.

Especially if Moss wants out, then we want him out.

We gave up a 4th round pick in a crummy draft class for Moss. I'd love a 2nd, but a 3rd is an upgrade for a player that's been hugely productive for us, after three years of depreciation. Economists say, "buy low, sell high". Here's a lesson in creating value.

That would be fine if we still had that defense. The problem is we do not have a reliable defense at this point. The D is still learning and needs a dominant offense to carry them for a while. Take away Moss and there goes our one strong point (the offense.)

On another note, I almost hope Brady loses his mind if this deal goes down. BB deserves to have to deal with an irate Brady. Brady demanding a trade of his own would give Bill something to think about. Think about it, BB traded Branch and didn't re-sign Givens, leaving Brady with no wideouts. We suffered for it in the 2006 AFC Championship game. He gives him Moss and we at least have a threat now. But trade Moss, and we have made a complete circle, except we will have skipped the part where we actually win something like a championship.

I don't know what people are freaking out about. We've won 0 rings with Moss. He's the kind of fantasy football player we used to make fun of when we were winning championships. Since when have Pats fans fell in love with big names and fantasy football stats.

I just love it when certain Patriots fans come up with this idiotic logic.

Hey guess what? The New England Patriots have won 0 rings since Adam Vinatieri left the team. Do you think its because of that reason? Maybe we can try to sign him back when he comes back from his injury so the Patriots can win more Super Bowls!!! YAYE!!!

That's not so with Darell Revis and the defense. He's a premier shutdown corner in the league who makes the other parts in our defense work that much better because he eliminates the #1 reciever.

Replace "Moss" with "Revis" and your post is the exact same things people said about the Jets defense without Revis.

They were on the same plane home that got into Gillette at 5AM, so they certainly saw each other... Whether they had words or perhaps BB and Randy's agent had words, who knows. Could be some agent shenanigans afoot - perhaps Bill got a call from Minnesota and someone knew something he shouldn't like that Randy had asked for a trade... Favre has a lot of leverage with Zigi, probably more than Chilly at this juncture, and maybe he's threatening to re retire if he doesn't get an available Moss for the second time on the back nine of his career...

Bottom line is if there was nothing to this the team would have come out in force and killed it several hours ago. For whatever reason they are either looking to trade him or at least listening to offers - and I don't think anyone expects after going that far with that player you could have any expectation of not pulling the trigger.

Completely agree. If there was nothing to the deal the Patriots would have denied it right away and not let it escalate to where it is now. Another important fact is the Vikings cleared a roster spot today, that was presumably for Moss, they wouldnt make a roster spot for nothing.

And, as I noted elsewhere (after the post you referenced), the maximum for Moss, who's in his second decade in the NFL, is actually a fifth-rounder, not a third (i.e., the equivalent of a 2011 6).

You know who I think would be a great fit on the Patriots? Steve Smith (the Panther, not the Giant). I'm watching the Panthers game Sunday and believe you me, he is not happy with being on such an atrocious team with an atrocious QB. But the man has talent. The Panthers are the youngest team in football and they're clearly rebuilding. They might prefer the draft picks over an unhappy veteran.

Of course, later on in that game he got injured so I guess that pipe dream was out the window before it even materialized.

thanks for this - i feel better :)

I am thinking the same thing too. Who knows what "had words" mean? I don't know what is there or not there, but I got a kick out of Schefter saying that Bellichick and Moss didn't see each other today "according to a league source."

Smith is talented, but he's a psychopath. Always getting into fistfights with teammates.

boldin woulda looked good right about now.

Boldin would never have come here. Yeah, he's said he likes Brady, but he wanted to be on a team where HE was the #1 WR, and that just wasn't going to happen in NE.
