Nope. Another Pats bust.

I don't think Zoltan Mesko was worth using a 5th round draft pick on. This isn't based just on his 4 punts this season, he wasn't even amazing in college. I don't understand using a 5th rounder on a damn punter unless he's without a doubt the best available.

Why not? Punter is an important position.

Mesko could end up being merely average and it'd still be worth the ROI.

I think you really should have let this idea bake for a bit longer in the proverbial oven before you decided to make this lame ass thread.

That's where I disagree, you can find a merely average punter in free agency.

We've had a merely average punter for years and it hasn't gotten us anywhere. After four punts, we don't really know anything about Mesko. But he's a rookie and was booming them in preseason. No reason to think that he can't do it in the regular season after having more than four punts worth of practice.

Oh, and, uh, kill yourself please.

There was a rookie kicker back in 96 who sucked pretty hard the first few games of his career. Probably shoulda canned him but for some reason the Pats kept this Vinatieri guy around.

Guess it paid off.

Irrelevant, you were saying all off-season how there's no way Maroney wouldn't be on (and a positive contributor) to the team this season and you were wrong.

Someday, everyone will understand that there's a difference between trading someone and cutting them. Unfortunately, this day won't come anytime soon.

I'm not sure why you guys disagree with the OP. Seriously, how many superbowls has Mesko led the Patriots to?

QED

When we drafted this kid I assumed he was a sure-fire A+ punter, you'd have to be to even warrant a draft pick being used on your position.

I've not been impressed so far. Hasn't been horrible, but (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off what I've seen, haven't broke down the stats) hasn't been fantastic either.

He's a 5th round pick. What more do you want? He's definitely got the leg strength and he will help in the field position game. Zoltan is an upgrade over 'facepalm' Hanson for sure, and with room to get better.

BTW Zoltan Mesko as of now is the #6 overall punter in the NFL for average this season. So you sir look incredibly ignorant. Do you even bother checking your facts before you post?

And... #1 OVERALL for Net Average. All HAIL the Space Emperor of Space!

Mesko is already better then Hanson. The Pats have not really had a great punter in the Belichick era.Zolt is a built like a linebacker and has a led boot.Zoltan is going to be here a while.

The patriots have done well to use draft choices to get the specialists they wanted. The patriots have used a 3rd, 4th, 5th and a 6th for the four specialists, plus a 5th for special teamer Slater. I dare say few teams have allocated as many rsources to special teams.

Gostkowski - kicker
Tate - returner (he was worth drafting as a returner; he is likely to be more for us)
Ingram - deep snapper
Mesko - punter

Many teams do not have the respect for special teams that Belichick has. In addition, Belichick keeps 2-4 players on the squad primarily because of their special teams play: Slater, White, and Arrington are this year's group.
