Meriweather on why he didn't start

Meriweather is an athletically skilled, immature dimwit.

Who will be playing elsewhere next year. If he was in his 1st or 2nd year I'd give him some slack. It's his 4th damn year. WTF? The bulb isn't going on here. And, one of the reasons he made the Pro Bowl a couple of the guys voted above him got hurt. He was a replacement pro-bowler. Hardly, can be classified a pro-bowl player.

Meriweather isn't going anywhere. Please put down the bong.

I like it.

He knows the coaches are pissed at some of his play.

Sounds like he's working his ass off to get back in there.

Good Luck to the guy.

+1

and for the guy that compared him to maroney, i NEVER heard maroney talk about himself quite this strongly in a negative way....

People need to do the opposite, pick one up and RELAX.

I like this suggestion better.

But I still agree with Tunescribe & PFinPA, and it now looks like Bill is also coming around to why I didn't want him to draft this joker in the 1st round in '07.

I bet in practice he was always trying to make the big play whether it be a big hit or an int, which lead to him getting torched on play action and being generally out of position. Just a guess.

I think you're probably close. He had some hard hits this preseason. The coaches probably want to leave that to Chung. Meriweather makes a better center fielder than Chung anyway.

who was teh better pick, maroney or meriweather?

Meriweather is an immature discipline problem. That's why he didn't start. Kid needs to grow up. He also needs to learn to speak english.

This clown won't even be here 2 years from now.

He's not a kid any more. Look at our other 1st round picks sans Maroney. See where they were at by their 4th year in the system. Some of them did struggle as rooks; Graham, Warren and Wilfork. But, dramatically improved after that. Mankins and Mayo hit the ground running.

Hmmm. Increasingly passionate board disagreement, former first round pick maybe not living up to potential (despite "all pro" season), slightly off the wall comments from the player. Does this board have it's new ...Maroney?

Obviously he is having a few issues this year, but I think it's kind of ridiculous to act like the guy has done absolutely nothing since he got here. He was a pro bowl alternate last year, and lead the team in interceptions, and had two forced fumbles.

His 2nd year, he had 4 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles, as well as 2 sacks

Each of the last two years he's had 83 tackles, close to the team lead, and he's an ironman - he doesn't miss games and up until the last two games he's played pretty much every snap the last two years.

Is he struggling right now? Definitely, he is working through some issues.

Has he emerged as the leader of the secondary/entire defense like we all wanted and expected him to? Not to this point

Does he flash the potential to be better than we've seen up until now? Yes. Which is why its so frustrating that he hasn't yet

I don't think its ridiculous to be unsatisfied with Meriweather, given the fact that he's obviously really talented and if he put it all together he'd be a top 5 safety, but to bash the guy like he's contributed nothing to the team is just absurd to me

That's a tough question. LaMa was the better pick at the time of their respective drafts, because he was neck-and-neck with DeAngelo Williams for best RB available, and was one of the better players avail. regardless of position. After watching the decline of Corey Dillon during the '05 season, Bill must've decided that he could no longer wait to grab what he hoped would be an upper-echelon Back for the next half-dozen years. And unlike Williams, LaMa had the fresher pair of legs because he shared the load at UMinn with Marion Barber until his senior season.

The Miami Stomper, OTOH, came into the draft with more red flags than a racetrack. This franchise used to take pride in avoiding such miscreants with high draft picks, even at the slight cost of settling for a somewhat lesser talent. It's one matter to trade a 4th-round pick on a WR with 9 years of top-level NFL production; it's another matter entirely to spend a 1st-rounder, and a 1st-round contract, on somebody known more for his off-field (and on-field, thus my nickname for him) idiocy than his draftable production. The same baggage he carried into the draft - immaturity, stubborness & lack of discipline - plague him, and therefore us, even today.

So the newest whipping boy for the board is a black guy with dreads. And the last whipping boy was a black guy with dreads. Hmmmm, I think I see a pattern developing here. I feel bad for Brandon Spikes, I think I can see what his future on this board is...

And would someone please tell me what Brandon Meriweather did off the field that was so horrible? (spare me the FIU-Miami Brawl BS...Randy Moss stomped a guy into a hospital and went to jail for it, and people don't say sh!t about it)

I was listening to an interview with Meriweather just after last season or early in tracining camp and he was asked about all the missed tackles the Pats D had last season, and if they where working on that to get it corrected. his answer? he didn't see it as a problem and what they needed to do was to make sure more guys where flying to the ball so if the first guy(s) missed the tackle there would be more there to finish the job.:confused:

in this interview today he was asked if he was going to review the film himself before the team review, his answer? nope, he wants to put that game in the rear view mirror.

me thinks he's just not getting it.

This sounds about right.
Meriweather isn't going anywhere, with the center of the field in the state that it is in. Even if he has work to do, he is more reliable in coverage than any of our other safeties.

The speculation and personal stuff is getting out of hand. People here are so hard on the kid, just because he is from "the U", isn't a Rhodes Scholar, and has been showing laughing on the sidelines during the preseason, etc.
The kid has made big strides since he joined the Pats. His tackling has improved considerably since 2008. Its quite the role he has been thrust into, to be a playmaker and leader in a secondary where there is no one to cover for your mistakes.

I'm not denying that BB isn't happy with his performance (seeing as he's trying to light a fire under his ***). I'm not saying he's a film addict (although watching some of the plays he's made I think he'd surprise people in that dept.)
But pure speculation about the character of these guys is unfair, be it Brace or Meriweather or anyone else. Leave the character judgments to BB.
