I will consider Jackson's rookie season a huge success if, by the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs, he's beginning to resemble a #2 WR.

Given his hamstring, limited pre-season practice time, and rookie status no one should have any expecations for him in games 1-10 IMO.

If down the homestretch he can average between 3-4 catches a game, that projects out to #2 WR production and everyone should be happy to have that sort of a player going into the playoffs.

At that point, no one will remember weeks 1-10 anyway.

Good point JoeSix...."Given his hamstring, limited pre-season practice time, and rookie status no one should have any expecations for him in games 1-10 IMO." Please don't curse me for mentioning a certain receiver again that used to play with us......Does anyone have the former #83's stats from his rookie season with the Pats? I realize our expectations are a little higher for CJ; but I do believe he didn't play much until the latter half of his rookie year.

That is an excellent report, PonyX,
on something few of us heard ...
but many are interested in.

I am baffled, though, that so many fans
remain enthusiastic about reciting their same, old opinions
- mostly, THE SAME opinion -
about this promising rookie
... thread after thread after thread after ....

how old can they really be when we are 5 weeks into his rookie year????? as BB would say "It (he) is what it is" and what he is is a rookie in a system that doesnt feature one player

Fickle fans. So, are you all off the Ben Watson bandwagon, too?

In this offense, give me one player who reliably produces. Moroney looked like a star against Cinci, and a dud against Miami. Why isn't everyone piling off that bandwagon?

On this offense, everyone runs hot and cold, depending on what the D gives us. I feel very good that Jackson will be a stud for us. BB is not one to blow smoke on something like this, especially if it means giving a rookie props. Classic BB would be to say, he's "getting better"-- it sounds like he went well beyond that in this interview.
Ben has a bandwagon? When did he qualify for Hank Poteat status?

On WEEI, P. Shepherd asked BB if there were problems with CJ. BB said CJ is progressing, said that he is "going to be a good player for us" and mentioned although he wouldn't predict when CJ would have his "break out" game, to my ears seemed to imply a "break out" game was a question of "when" and not "if". Said that each week CJ has a set of plays designed for him, and depending on game situations will either have his number called or not, and Sunday happened to be a game where situations dictated other things. The tone of his comments was positive.

What did you expect him to say? "Chad Jackson sucks. We really blew it." Thanks for another useless post.

No. I expected your boyfriend to say "I'm Ron Borges sucks. He really blew it."

Another used piece of Butt-Wipe from I'm RB...always useless and always rude.

Guys,

CJ will be our exciting receiver. When will people realize that that?

Oh yeah, when the see it...

Hmmph.

I want to know why people insist on quoting a-holes that are on my ignore list!! It's so much better when you can ignore them. Try it folks.

Another thought on CJ - even if he were healthy during training camp I still get the impression he'd be brought along slowly. Starting a rookie at WR is inherently riskier than almost any other position on the field besides QB and maybe CB, because their mistakes often end up in turnovers. It's hard given the current state of our receiving corps, but patience is required.

And will its nice to hope that he's the next Smith or Whosyourmomma, for all we know he could be the next Bethel Johnson, also taken in the 2nd round.

I've made my thoughts clear on CJ in a bunch of different threads, but I still want to put in my CJ support in here as well, as it's good to hear BB continue to say the good things about CJ that he has said all along.

A lot of people truly seem to want CJ to fail or enjoy his lack of production thus far for some odd reason. I can't wait till these clowns have to eat crow when CJ emerges.

More than 1700 views on the thread suggests a lot of fans were interested!

Because the other guys have proven what they can do. They go out there and contribute. Chad on the other hand should get an Oscar for best portrayal of a man missing in action.

Ok maybe I'm going to far but he should at least get something for his Casper imitation.

This is a good point and I would like to remind people that Jackson was not a first round pick so his expectations should be lower than someone like Maroney. If we passed on Maroney and picked Jackson in the first round, I think we would be in a bit of a pickle. ;)

Give the rookie a break. Gabriel has looked good, and Brown. Caldwell should fill the Patten role. We get Jackson later in the season, and all is well. Right now, they need less changes at WR and more practice time with Brady than anything else.

5 games folks.

Let's keep a little perspective. Know how many great WR talents struggled their first seasons in the NFL?

Take a look at the following:

Moulds - 20 catches, 279 yards
McCardell - 1 catch, 8 yards
TO - 35 catches, 520 yards
Cris Carter - 5 catches, 84 yards
Henry Ellard - 16 catches, 268 yards
Irving Fryar (remember him?) - 11 catches, 164 yards
Isaac Bruce - 21 catches, 272 yards
Jimmy Smith (his first year in Jax) - 22 catches, 288 yards
Rod Smith - 6 catches, 152 yards
Herman Moore - 11 catches, 135 yards

And so on...

WR rookie success is quite rare. Give the kid a break after just 5 games...

I agree that that is effusive praise for a rookie coming from BB.

I feel confident when BB says he's gonna be a good player for us, that's exactly what's gonna happen.
I hope we start to see him more involved in the offense soon.

Per Reiss:

"* WR Chad Jackson drew a large media crowd and said he feels like he is "90 percent" physically. He said he feels like he has learned the team's offense. "I'm fine with the offense right now, I have no problems with it," he said. "They just keep adding on stuff and I keep picking it up.""

Good stuff. The CJ doubters will ignore it though.

I, too, have become somewhat concerned as to the time it is taking him to , either, learn the play book or recover from the Hamstring pull. I am leaning to the problem being moreso the playbook rather than the injury.

However, I think he will be an awesome receiver for us....and am willing to wait a little longer. Actually, what choice do I have as I can't wave my magic wand..... Wait, maybe I can..... abra cadabra, hocus pocus....there, it's done. :D My brother Merlin taught me that one. :D

Who the F turned my dog into a fire breathing dragon? NEM, put that friggin' wand away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
