Chad Jackson compared to 1st 10 2006 WR draft picks

He is one of only 2 2006 top 10 WR picks to have scored a TD, he is third in rcv yds. and third in yards per catch. Maybe we are judging this kid too harshly. Here are the sad looking stats for the first 10 WR's taken in the 2006 draft.

1) Holmes, Steelers- 4 games 7 catches 73 yards 10.4 ypc and 0 touchdowns
2) Jackson, Patriots- 3 games 4 catches 51 yards 12.8 ypc and 1 touchdown
3) Moss, NY Giants- 1 game-- 1 catch for 4 yds - 4.0 ypc and 0 touchdowns
4) Jennings, Packers- 5 games 20 catches 364 yds 18.2 ypc and 3 TD's-----
5) Wilson, Browns-- 1 game no catches, no yds no touchdowns------------
6) Hagen, Dolphins- 5 games, 2 catches 31 yds. 15.5 ypc and 0 touchdowns
7) Stovall, Tampa Bay- 1 game and 0 catches 0 yds and 0 touchdowns------
8) Reid, Steelers-- 1 game with 0 catches 0 yds and 0 touchdowns----------
9) Rogers, Packers- Did not make the team 104th player selected------------
10) Avant, Eagles--3 games, 0 catches, 0 yds, 0 Touchdowns--------------
Looks like the front office missed on Greg Jennings he was picked 16 spots after Chad Jackson, he is having a great rookie season so far. All in all I think we might have been vastly overestimating the impact Jackson would have as a rookie. Let's get Porter from the Raiders now.

I'm sure the fans who expected Jackson to come in and have an immediate impact, firmly establishing himself as the #1 or #2 WR are likely disappointed.

Unreasonable expectations have a way of doing that to you.

Those fans who recognize that even Hall of Fame WRs needed a season to establish themselves aren't even close to bemoaning this draft pick yet.

Too early to say what? That Jennings is having a great rookie year so far? Too early to say that the Pats should go after Porter now? Or too early to say that Jackson will not be our #1 this season?

I sincerely doubt there is a single GM in the NFL that would accept Steve Smith for CJ right now, especially those fighting for their job.

Chad Jackson will eventually become the exciting pass catcher that we have yet to see as Patriots fans. It will occur when Brady is actually in his prime, say, 2007, 2008, 2009. We will see things that have never been seen before, like long bombs, screen passes going for 40 yards, slants through the middle for first downs and more.

Come back and read this in 2008.

I think the NFL made two big mistakes when they shortened the season to 5 games and dictated that rookie contracts be only for one year.

How can you say that the front office "missed" on Greg Jennings after 5 darn games in which Jackson has been hindered by injury. Get some darn perspective. Terry Glenn had a huge rookie season, Steve Smith didnt, Chad Johnson didn't. Are you saying that the Bengals missed out on Terry Glenn?

Take a step back and breathe for a second. Please. I"m beginning to get tired of Chad Jackson complains.

Reality Check people: CJ is a ROOKIE. Hopefully he'll be able to adjust well and quickly to our offense. Hopefully he'll be able to learn the ropes fast and be able to take a leading role in our passing offense. But don't be surprised if he doesn't. Most rookies don't.

Many people were high on Jennings at draft time. However, Jennings is 5'11 195 with average speed, and I believe the Pats are gambling that CJ can be a special, game-breaking player. Jennings is at least 2 years older than Jackson and played his full 4 years of college. Everyone knew he was more of a finished product. Too early to make judgments.

Greg Jennings IS having a great rookie year. Chad Jackson may NOT be our #1 this season. What I don't see is your argument nor am I seeing what you're surprised about. And in regards to the Porter situation, I'm sure BB knows much more than you, my friend. Believe it or not, BB does know something about football and he does knwo something about the Patriots. So relax.

Am I wrong in thinking that most people here realized that rookie WR's rarely flourish in their first year?

you are correct in everything you said..... people need to chill out and give players time. people who expected Jackson to be our #1 or #2 right away dont know football or the way that the patriots are built and operate. people who expect him to be that and a gamebreaker starting next season have their expectations correct and if he doesnt start contributing more then will have reason to b#$ch

Most rookies don't.

Most rookie WR's don't have good 1st seasons but most of the ones that turn out to be great do,

T. Owens 520 yds, R. Moss 1313 yds 17 td's, T. Holt 788 yds, A. Boldin 1377 yds. keyshawn 844 yds, jerry rice 927 yds, tim Brown 725 yds, marvin Harrison 836 yds .

I love your 6 months later scouting reports. Can you please direct me to the post you made during draft time when you say everyone knew Jennings was more of a finished product? Thanks. If not, shut up because you don't know anything about Greg Jennings. My guess is you never even saw him play in college and if you did, it was once so spare us the Mel Kiper after the fact breakdown.

Jennings has had a good season so far. There things that help. He played in a similar offense in college, and he played Z, X, and Zebra, so he came in with a good understanding of all three positions, which one of the biggest things that limits rookie WRs.

He's mature for his age.

He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. When did that become average?

You're right... he was supposed to have average speed, then shocked everybody at the combine... sorry. I loved this kid. He plays like Deion Branch, he catches passes like he started in the cradle, and seems to have fun on the field. Would have been happy with him as a Pat. Interestingly, I believe he was drafted with our original 2nd rd selection, which we traded to GB to move up for Jackson. He played big in big games (Virginia and Michigan St, I believe). Obviously the Pats wanted to go in another direction and it's too early to make judgments...

Chad Jackson is washed up.

He was injured, then he was great when he caught the touchdown pass.

I think that was the highlight of his career. Why hang on? He should retire now before he embarasses himself like Willie Mays with the Mets.

I'm going to compile a list of all these negative nancies who are "off the Chad Jackson bandwagon". When he turns into an elite wide receiver, I'm going to come back and expose all the folks who were too impatient to wait until at least midseason to make a judgment on the guy.
