I used to think Hobbs was our best coverage guy but...he gets burnt a fair amount.

He played with one f-ing hand! His injured wrist required a cast that immobilized is arm from his elbow to his hand. He could not grab with that arm at all. Should he have played? That is a fair question but I think he had a pretty good reason to have a sub par game today.

With that pass rush even Champ Bailey would have looked bad. Seriously, do you people even understand football at all?

On the great catch by Welker that Hobbs got 'burned' on he was right in the WRs hip pocket. He had perfect coverage. The Safety help was late, the pass rush allowed 5 or 6 seconds to drip by and still had zero pressure at the release of the ball.

NO coverage unit in the NFL could succeed in that situation. The two INTs our unit had were on the few times when pressure was actually applied.

A great pass and a great catch will always beat perfect coverage by a CB where the safety help is late or nonexistant. We're simply giving opposing QBs too long to throw, allowing them to lay up perfect balls. It's that simple.

He is just too short for today's receivers on quick hitting tyhpe passing plays. He will always be BEHIND the receiver and he does not have the height to go up for the ball to match the receiver on the inside of him. Thats basic type stuff.

If you are a 6 ft, or taller receiver, you run at the CB who is smaller, cut right or left, and you have the inside track with a smaller guy behind you. Good offensive coordinators will run at that kind of Cornerback all day long.

Even if Hobbs gambles and cuts inside the receiver, if the ball is thrown high enough, again the receiver has the advantage over a small corner like Hobbs.

Ready to admit that you were wrong that Hobbs wouldn't be back in the lineup even when healthy? It only took one week for you to be proven wrong on that one.

And also, WHO of our other CBs would you put out there over Hobbs? The list is short: Scott, Poteat, Troy Brown. So go ahead and answer that question finally.

You do realize your peeing into the wind and expecting it to change direction? You might get better results peeing on his keyboard, he would hopefully miss a couple of his diatribes while he sends the wife out for another.

What I thought was significant was that Hobbs did not return to his usual corner spot, but played the nickel. Perhaps that was due to his injury or perhaps Scott has supplanted Hobbs at CB.

Amazing how one can get to know the style of posters while lurking. This one in question appears to be a tough nut to crack. Oh well, there's power in numbers...

What do you say when all the league's 6' CBs get beat on slants and hitches, etc.?

Teams complete passes. Check the stats. I'm not wrong. They complete a lot of passes.

Now you're on record. We'll see how the rest of the season pans out and if the best coaching staff in the NFL agrees with you.

My depth chart would look like this:

Hobbs
Samuel
Wilson
Harrison
Hawkins in a safety rotation to keep the injuries down.
Nickle - Hawkins/Scott rotation.
Dime - Poteat

Notice that my suggestion is pretty closely tied to the exact one that was employed by the Patriots Coaching staff prior to the injuries starting.

I'll get back to you on Week 17 and let you know how wrong you were about the talent of Ellis Hobbs.

Teams complete a league average of I'd guess around 52% or their passes. This number goes up dramatically on teams with a lack of consistent pass rush, of which the Patriots are currently one.

If we up the pass rush then Hobbs and Samuel will both look much better, as will the safety help.
