OT: NFL non-Patriots cuts

Very surprised that the Phins cut OG Donald Thomas. He started as a rookie and was a kid that just pounded people. He's had injuries since then.

Could be why they cut him.. If he couldn't stay healthy..

How about the OLB Dallas just cut, Curtis Johnson. I know Im grasping for straws here but I remember his name from playing for Indy the year before last. Maybe with the depth of Dallas, that guys theyre cutting could be starters for us?

Or please look at this guy. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=5859 . I loved him for MSU, great hands, great route runner, and crazy fast. He was on my draft wish list.

I'm a huge Lane fan as well and was so disappointed the Patriots didn't pick him up. Sigh I hope we make some kind of move to bolster the pass rush or Carson Palmer is going to look like Joe Montana next week.

This defense is ridiculously young, but I like its chances to get better as the year goes on a lot better than I liked the old 2007 or 2008 teams. Youth improves. They have size and speed everywhere, and a great coach. Give them a chance.

The doom and gloomers amaze me. You have Tom Brady in his prime, plus Randy Moss and Wes Welker. It's going to be fun no matter what. Will they lose some games? Yeah. But you're all depressed before the year even starts, like it's not going to be any fun watching one of the greatest players ever for another year.

Brady is the Goat and I will sleep better when his extension is announced don't get me wrong, I have zero concern about the offense besides running game.
I enjoy watching a swarming D more so than a elite qb.
I want to find the next mcginnest, Phifer, Vrabel, Johnson at linebacker I think we found our Law in Mccourty.

This team has high-class talent everywhere. Wilfork, Mayo, Spikes, Meriweather, Chung-- thats pretty solid up the middle, a lot of hitting. I think Brace will play and give them size and power up there. Over the past few years, no matter what happened, they were going to be slow and small with guys like old-Bruschi and Guyton and Jarvis Green and Sanders and Burgess and Seau-- and with guys like Deltha O'Neal and Wilhite starting outside. Not to mention the offense, with Aiken and Galloway etc getting major reps at receiver. Chris Baker etc. This team at least passes the size-speed test all over the roster-- even potentially at RB, with Maroney. When they put it together, they'll be more explosive.

And if you think we have problems, look at Washington where Joey Galloway is a starting wideout.

Watching the video of the Jarron Gilbert during the East/West practices, he reminded me of Reggie White plowing Max Lane in Packers/Patriots SuperBowl. I was dispointed when the Patriots didn't draft this guy last year. This just shows how wrong I was about Jarron Gilbert.

Bears waived DL Jarron Gilbert.
Gilbert can jump out of a pool in a single bound, but just isn't any good at football (we know, we've watched him). The former third-round pick will get a chance elsewhere, but if Rod Marinelli can't motivate you, no one can

Wouldn't mind if they checked out DL Al Woods and RB Andre Brown.

I saw that Blair White was cut by the Colts.. I hope he gets picked up onto a practice squad.. Kids got talent.

Okay, I can see your point. As you noted the list is very subjective. Personally I would have given Belichick credit at least for the SB win over Buffalo in Tampa (Norwood wide right) when the Bills were heavily favored and their offense was considered unstoppable. A game plan in which you plan on letting the opposing running back run for 100 yards must have seemed crazy at the time to the players on the Giants' defense, but it worked.

Frankly, if I simply had to choose between Bill I + Bill II, and the question was "Who was most essential to that Giant team's 2 Super Bowl wins?", I would be VERY comfortable giving it to Bill II: I was setting all that up conservatively, you see, with a mind towards not yoinking the "credit" away from an Head Coach unless the impact of the OC, DC, or Line Coach was absolutely incontestable...

In other words, I was using the Criminal Court Standard: Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, when "stripping" the HC of his Super Bowl "credit"!! ;)

Were I to apply the Civil Court Standard ~ where one must merely prove that something is probable ~ then I must concur, sir, that the decision would clearly be in favor of Bill II!! :D

And as a point in fact, Councilor, I believe your Argument is emphatically persuasive, has, in fact, won the day, and has proven to the Court that the Civil Standards should hold sway!! :p

Thus, I offer you this revised list, for the record:

Super Bowl Victories Attributable to Current Coaches

***

5 Bill Belichick
2 **** LeBeau
2 Alex Gibbs
1 Steve Spagnuolo
1 Shawn Payton

***

Kinda makes me glad he's on OUR side. :rocker:

There's one to watch out there yet boys and girls - the Jags haven't yet announced their cuts.

Dear Lord, I will be forever in your debt if you could see to it they release Austen Lane and allow the Pats to snag him off waivers.

NICE. :D

I have no idea if the kid can play in our System, but, by GOD, I'd love to see him try!!

BRAVO!! :rocker:

We have BIG problems at End, OLB, and CB, and there WILL be some pain, but my GOD, this is a deeply talented, young team, one that's about 1 year and a couple players away from being a 3-4 year JUGGERNAUT.

Actually, White and Lane were just friends.

I always thought he was a Thinking Man's Safety and just what Belichick likes to work to develop.

Excellent call. I would love to see us haul Myron Rolle in.
