No and No. But the sample sizes are uncomparable. I feel Slater had one significant face time moment and that was it. I'm sorry If I seem hard on Slater, but please don't try to make me compare Matt Slater moments with those of Troy Brown or Tom Brady. Sometimes bad things stick out for certain people. Ask Bill Buckner.

Slater has had 22 kick returns in 2 years yet all you can remember is the Pittsburgh game???

Brady's and Brown's gaffs were huge in those games..

The samples sizes are very comparable. I am taking one specific moment and comparing them to other specific moments.

If you can't see the similarities, then maybe your thinking is flawed on the subject???

Do you hold the fumbled punt by Troy Brown in 2006 (?) against the Broncos against him?

Or how about Brady's fumble against the Ravens during the Playoffs?

I'm not going to claim that Slater is the best gunner I've ever seen. He's not. But he is the best the Pats have right now. And he's one of the best special teamers they have. Especially with the cutting of Woods and Alexander, who were known for their good special teams play.

Slater despite the fumble is an above average kick returner and plays on all 6 STs units. That is something that Aiken couldn't claim. And its probably the reason (besides money) that he's still around.

Brady and Brown have done a little more for the franchise than Slater has and he is NOT an above average returner, he's below average if anything. If he makes the team based on his gunner skills alone great but he's not useful as a returner or on offense or defense.

credibility shot

Really? 24.5 Yards per return is bad??? That was the best on the Pats last year for anyone who had double digit returns..

So, if my credibility is shot, does that mean your's was non-existent to begin with?

I'm Sorry. I obviously don't share the Matt Slater love you do. A lot of good guys were cut today that didn't spend the majority of training camp on the sidelines in sweatpants.

It was 34th that year. He averaged 14 yards in 2008 for a career average of 19.3.

Even in Lake Woebegon, that is not above average.

Matthew Slater wasnt even on the sideline in sweat pants he wasnt out at practice at all. He got injured within the first 15 minutes of the first practice of TC.

My bad. I just knew that from all the PFW blogs that Slater was constantly listed as not participating.

As for him being 34th, there were 12 players ahead of him that had fewer than 10 returns, and 9 who had less than 5. That's why I said double digit returns. So that there was a decent sample size. Even in Lake Woebegone, they understand that..

BTW, players aren't allowed to improve in your world???

And you say MY credibility is shot???

Sorry,. but Slater is above average. Not great. but above average..

Bottom line, he made the team. Congratulations to him. Now if he just shows up tomorrow, can play OLB, and look like Demarcus Ware, we'll all love him.

Don't forget that some of those players are throwaways until after week one.

i said over and over that slater would make the team. i hate him as the returner but he blocks his butt off when he is the lead. I noticed last year when he blocked for maroney he just runs full speed into people(he also does that when he returns lol). Slater goes 110% and expects others around him to do their job. Slater does not improvise whatsoever. I use to hate him, but i have gained respect of his st play. Slater's greatest competition came from lockett but he was put on ir.

Also, why the hell is bjge still hear.

Woods and Alexander cut: Thank you BB!

Would have loved to keep Jenkins instead of Slater though.

EDIT: So we kept Slater instead of Aikens or Jenkins? WTF.

Imagine that.. A guy who can play on all 6 special teams units is kept over a guy who only plays on 2 of them and a guy who would have been the 6th receiver..

Exactly what I'm thinking.

Uh, Aiken can play on all 6 special teams unit and is better at it than Slater. Why cut him and keep Slater? You can even argue that Aikens is a better receiver than Slater, which speaks volumes of how useless Slater is as a receiver.

Defend him all you want. Slater sucks. No upside whatsoever. Aikens is a much better special teams player.

Then why did BB keep him?

Slater is a kick-ass lead blocker on PR because of his speed. He has no regard for his own body. Therefore his value on ST is greater than that of Aiken because Aiken is easily replaceable. Read: Chung.

Andy - Page was one of the RFAs who was holding out. I believe he has to miss 3 games and is exempt until that time. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the case.
I thought he was ALLOWED to mis 3 weeks, not forced to. That would be 2 games, though in any event.
