Thanks for clearing that up. Its so hard for me to get the Matt Slater kick return against the Steelers out of my head, that until a full understanding of his value from you, he's never gotten off my hate list. Ill have to watch him a bit more closer in those situations.

In that vein, let me reiterate that I don't think he should ever be allowed to touch the ball.

Is there a link to williams getting cut?

Williams was cut. It was part of the list of 20 that was Posted.

Saying Slater is the best special teams gunner you have ever seen, you must not have seen Steve Tasker. But it is obv that Slater is one of BB favorites. He literally was out all preseason and still made it.

I mean in 20-odd years of watching the pats. Don't watch other teams' gunners too carefully :)

Andy - Page was one of the RFAs who was holding out. I believe he has to miss 3 games and is exempt until that time. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the case.

He signed his tender before Sept 4th so I dont think he has to miss 3 games.

Damn disappointed about Sergio Brown, kid looked like a keeper I see practice squad in his near future if he doesn't get plucked.

Matthew Slater is the best ST gunner I've ever seen. Yes, that is all he does, but he does it exceptionally well.

AGREED - at several games I attend, I have just watched him and he truly is a great special teamer. he gets a bad rap here because of his Steeler game fumble I guess.

Looks to me that only FOUR starters from 2009 are going to be starting next week........., tbc/mayo/merriweather and big vince.

Cuts, IR & rookies changing things all up.

Five if you count Butler (as he did start 5 games last year).

Do you hold the fumbled punt by Troy Brown in 2006 (?) against the Broncos against him?

Or how about Brady's fumble against the Ravens during the Playoffs?

I'm not going to claim that Slater is the best gunner I've ever seen. He's not. But he is the best the Pats have right now. And he's one of the best special teamers they have. Especially with the cutting of Woods and Alexander, who were known for their good special teams play.

Slater despite the fumble is an above average kick returner and plays on all 6 STs units. That is something that Aiken couldn't claim. And its probably the reason (besides money) that he's still around.

No and No. But the sample sizes are uncomparable. I feel Slater had one significant face time moment and that was it. I'm sorry If I seem hard on Slater, but please don't try to make me compare Matt Slater moments with those of Troy Brown or Tom Brady. Sometimes bad things stick out for certain people. Ask Bill Buckner.

Mike Wright also started 9 games at RDE..

The big change will be at LDE, LILB, and at safety..

Also, you forgot that James Sanders started last season as well.

Yes on Wright - No on Sanders as he wont be starting this year.

Amazing turnover - no matter how it plays out. Moving on from woods/alexander is huge. can't wait to see Cunnigham take over.

Graham Harrell got cut today from Green Bay. Anyway we could bring him in with Mike Leach as OC. Leach was on Dan Patrick show Thursday and said that Patriots run some plays based off the offense he created in Texas Tech.

Five runningbacks again...eh.....
