Corey Bradford released

He was terrible in the game last weekend.

He's a big-play WR a few times a season. Otherwise, he just runs around wasting space and dropping passes. As a Packer he made some amazing catches for TDs.

He also made some sensational special teams tackles.

Comparing him with David Patten? No way. Absolutely no way.

It's not really going backwards if you're replacing your fifth wideout who has done absolutely nothing even when the offense was begging for Wideouts.

No one is suggesting getting Bradford in the place of Brown, Caldwell, Jackson, or Gabriel.

The suggestion is that Bradford would make a better 5th wide than J Smith. How is that untrue, even given the learning curve?
The limiting factor is QB time, not WR time. Perhaps this is one of the reasons they're talking to Testaverde, they need to accelerate the training of the WR's they have. OTOH, if Smith totally sucks (which we don't know) then there's a reason.

David Patten was mentioned by a few in this thread. I wish we had him right now, I know several of us thought he would be released during training camp, and the one game I saw of Washington, they hardly used him. That being said, I doubt Washington would trade him without trying to rip us off, and as far as his salary, I doubt the cash poor Krafts can afford him. As far as Bradford, I say let's go for it, give him a shot as our #1 receiver, since we don't have one now (just kidding, as a #4 or #5 receiver, he'd be a good choice).

I remain confused that this board is so obsessed with Detroit WRs. All offseason it was trade for Charles Rogers or Mike Williams. All training camp it was trade for Rogers - he'll be claimed the second he is cut. Now it is sign Bradford.

Detroit's WRs are terrible. If a guy can't make it on that team, he can't play. Bringing in guys who can't play won't fix the WR issues we have anymore than putting Childress and Caldwell out there will.

It may be a painful wait and the truth is it may never happen but the only way our WR problem is going to be solved this year is Jackson and Gabriel solve it. Signing a JAG like Bradford isn't going to change anything.

I hate to disagree, but I think it is stupid to think that another WR can't help this talent-less/injury ridden group. Who on this team is a better receiver than Corey Bradford ?, except maybe Troy Brown. You have an unproven (albeit very talented) rookie, who either can't learn the playbook, or can't get healthy, or can't take sh*t seriously, so when the h*ll is HE going to help us, if he can't play ? You have Caldwell, who hasn't proven to anyone that he can be an every down WR. Then you have Gabriel, who is also injured and still trying to learn the playbook, and has similar stats to Bradford. Only Brown has proven more to me than Bradford has in the NFL.

The problem with Bradford is he is equally as talent-less as the other guys. Less than 2 catches, less than 30 yards - that is what he gives you per game in his career. He's now looking for his 4th team. That isn't an answer, that is a JAG. Out with one JAG, in with another isn't going to help our WR situation in any noticeable way. We are probably better off with the JAG who at least knows the offense.

The truth is, there is no one out there who is going to upgrade our WR situation unless you want to trade for Porter which probably isn't very likely. Wait and hope for Gabriel and Jackson is the way the Pats decided to go when they dealt Branch.

You could always try and see if Irving Fryar would come out of retirement. :p Heck maybe add O-T-I-S too. Sounds like we lost quite a few DBs as well. Well it worked with Seau right?

Hehe. Yeah right.

According to the Globe, the Lions released Corey Bradford.

Even though I think the wideouts are fine and are going to be great, this guy could help out depth. He's a pretty consistent guy, 30-40 catches, 500-600 yards.

Any interest?
what's better than three new receivers?

answer-- 4 new receivers

"Upgrade"?? Surely you mean degrade?
