Well, wk1 I saw him catch a pass and the com said that is why the Titans took
him, as he is the #1 guy.

Okay, what else has Givens done for the Titans?

We are going to game 3, anyone?

And please don't tell me what he "might" have done for us, as he is being
scored on his value to his new team, ok?

No worries, you'll have plenty of company to talk about this, I'm just enamored with the waving bye bye and forget philosophy.

IMO Givens was way overpaid, but it's hard to judge how good he is when he is on such a horrid team. Titans absolutely suck. Even the doofins will beat them next week....that's how bad they really are.

I'll agree he was over paid, but I also have to agree with the announcer here.

If he caught a pass, that's why the Titans took him.:D

Seriously, he's no #1.

Givens' first two games of each season:

2002: (rookie) 4 rec, 27 yds, 1 TD

2003: 5 rec, 78 yds, 1 TD

2004: 10 rec, 200 yds

2005: 7 rec, 87 yds

After big payday and dramatic decrease at quarterback:

2006: 5 rec, 54 yds

Have fun with that one, David!

jaychamp, point being how he will help the Titans??

They may be bad, but you have a #1 receiver to get the ball to, he shows up
or he doesn't, win or lose.

Stats are what got him the money, ..... I'm waiting.//......................

I think the Titans win a close game, switch to Joey not realistic, stay with Pep
totaly unrealistic..............jmo.

It will be an interesting game.

It's early yet but...

#1 WR 2Games 11Recepions 151Yards 1TD 9FD
#2 WR 2Games 5Receptons 54Yards 0TD 3FD

#1 is Drew Bennett, #2 is David Givens

Ty Mo for the break down.

As you say it is still early. 45% catches of #1, approx 36% yards of #1, 33%
fd of #1, td = zip of #1.

and Givens was signed as the #1. Okay I'll waite and see as it is only wk 2 stats.

I think I read that in week1 Bennett had something like 18 passes where he was the intended WR. Now since Kerry Collins and Vince Young were throwing them half of them probably were 20 yards away from him but I think that clearly shows who is the primary target in Nashville these days.

If Givens was signed as the #1 then I've lost all of the rest of my respect for Jeff Fisher and Floyd Reese. i almost did that when they gave him all that $$$. Can't be. Upgrade over what they had.....gggggg, ok.

Does it really matter if he does well or disappears? The team is young, lost to the Jets at home and got blown out in their other game.

Of all the departures he was the easiest to get over.

I will NEVER understand why the Titans and Texans were our competition for David Givens.

Why don't terrible teams learn that you don't get better by overpaying for a #2 WR. The path to respectability is paved in the MIDDLE of the field. If you're going to overpay, it should be for a dominant DL, LB, OL, RB or QB. Someone who is ALWAYS involved in the action.

Even a great WR touches the ball maybe 6 times a game, and impacts the plays less than 50% of the time.

I would've understood better if a team like the Dolphins (division rival, barely missed playoffs last year) or Bears (playoffs, trying to upgrade offense) or Seahawks (I think Givens would be great in the West Coast offense) had overpaid a bit.

Instead, teams that completely suck are overpaying him as if HE could possibly save them from themselves.

Bennet is clearly their #1 and he should be. Drew is a much better WR.

That's right. Bennett is clearly the number one. He has far more passes thrown to him than Givens does (even if he does drop most of them). I've watched both games and have barely even seen Givens on the field.

I suspect he's spending too much time on the David Boston workout program than he is trying to improve as a football player, if you know what I mean.

Disinterested means you are impartial, like a judge.

Did you mean "uninterested"?

Curious thing to say.

All I'm saying is if you're on a suck team with a suck QB, you're probably not going to put up numbers even if your Jerry Rice. I suppose Randy Moss sucks too if you want to go by numbers after 2 games with a crap team.

I just think it's ******ed to judge a player based on and considering all the circumstances. New team, QB, # of games, missed most or all preseason games.

Slightly OT: Does anyone here think Givens is fantasy worthy? I took him with the last pick in my draft, and just dropped him for Alge Crumpler. Was that wise?

Givens was never really fantasy worthy here, it's hard to imagine him being so with the Titans, but you never know. Any input is welcome.

I think that is a good choice. Crumpler is a Pro Bowler and the few passes Vick makes usually go to him. Plus the Falcons seem to be pretty good and have more stability at QB than the Titans. Take him over Givens no question.
