watched the weasel's press conference last night.
sickened me.

after all this crying about wanting to be paid big for his big talents, as soon as
he gets his money what does he say to seattle fans?

'I hope ya'll aren't expecting me to come in here and be all that, I'm just a piece of the puzzle'

what a slimy loser.

he's immediately trying to lower expectations and remove pressure off of himself. he wants the dough for being great, but not the spotlight.

typical classless, ignorant jock.

he is soooo not the high character person we oncve thought he was. he's a selfish little weasel who'll say anything to make himself happy.

sorry loser - there ARE big expectations on you now, you idiot.

I thought that part of the PC was strange as well. It's like.. Uh, Branch, we're paying you to be more than a piece of the puzzle, right?

I think after signing the deal he started to realize what he's gotten himself into. he's being paid like reggie wayne and the team traded a 1st rounder for him - he better produce and produce big - there's gonna be a lot fo pressure and he'[s never even had 1000 yards - I think he's getting real nervous thinking about how this is gonna go if he doesn't hang big numbers...

heh heh what a tool

That's the thing about his NE experience that will burn him in Seattle- here he was only supposed to be a part of the puzzle, in Seattle he is supposed to be the MAN.

He will be like Jay Cutler in a way. Seattle, like Denver, got really close to a SB title and there isn't much room for improvement besides winning the SB. So what happens if Seattle or Denver doesn't win with Branch/Cutler? They will be disappointments since they were acquired specifically to get their teams over the hump.

I like Hasselbeck but he's no Tom Brady and Branch will discover this very soon.

IMO, what's sickening is how quickly posters here go from singing the praises of a person while he's a Patriot, but as soon as he's on another team, he's suddenly a talentless, selfish hack. That is sickening.

As much as people complain about Peyton Manning, if he became a Patriot, you guys would suddenly be saying he's the best quarterback ever. And if Brady were traded away, you'd all of a sudden decide he's nothing special. Sickening.

he'll be cut in 2 yrs. mark it down. Then he'll be a 29yr old washed up WR trying to latch on in Detroit or Cleveland. The way Seattle has $$ locked into their WRs, Walter Jones, Alexander, and their upcomers, there's no way they can afford it past 2007 season. Plus they have plethora of young defensive players who'll be up for renegotiation.

Holmgren is going for broke in 2006. He knows this is his last shot, so he could care less for a 2007 pick that may pan out by 2009

This is where SP/BB are brilliant to keep the Patriot juggernaut going for the next wave of talent.

wrong-o!

we didn't change our opinion of him when he went to another team.
we changed our opinion of him throughout this entire holdout. try to follow along, will ya?

and nobody ever said he was talentless, so again, you are completely wrong.

but that's ok, there's always a certain percentage of people like you.

He received priase when he derved to. He is getting crucified now, deservedly so becasue He is a lying SOB, a classless b**** who refused to honor what he signed. Now that he got his bling, let him go find a cure for his son. If he tears his ACL, I wont be shedding any tears, I will just be :)

Other than that he is a good guy and was a SMALL piece of the 2 championships the TEAM brought us while he was here.

Hey troll, they aren't bashing him cuz he isn't a pat anymore. It is becuase of how he acted and how he left. I consider this very similar to Adam V., both left like ********s.

It's not just the fact that they left. I'm on here everyday reading and i have NEVER seen anyone say Williie will play bad or call him talentless and selfish.

You need to read the posts better and shut your mouth until you actually get it.

I know i wouldn't say Peyton is the best ever. He is a choke. The pats would never get him. If they did, i would still think it is Montana and Brady.

but you probably just said that to stir things up... i hope so at least. Otherwise you are lost.

I hate to be the bad guy, but Branch is a damn fine receiver. He also had shown nothing but humilty and graciousness until this contract dispute happened. He has legitimate family concerns as one of his twin boys is confined to a hospital.

NE obviously wanted him back because they were so conscientious about the manner in which they negotiated with Givens. Plus, they offered nearly as much compensation to Branch as he finally received from Seattle as their intitial offer. It is clear that they thought very highly of him and wanted him on the team. The one thing that they completely underestimated is Branch's issues with signing a 5 year deal, which has been the major sticking point of the "negotiations."

Branch is not all of a sudden a bad WR because he left the Patriots, nor is he a bad human being. I would wager 3 months income that nobody in Seattle will complain about him as a teammate either. So he left our favorite team. How does that make him so dispicable? I have seen several threads about how the players need to move on and focus on the Jets. Well, I think it's best if we follow our own advice.

Yeah Deion, the Seahawks are paying you $39 million to come in and be a small part.

Here's hoping we are in for a a massive underperformance.

Mike: I apologize for piling on, since your quote has been very rebuked to this point, but let me try to offer an objective reason why I think you are not 100% correct here.

We all realize in our heart that many of the Pats players are not Hall of Fame players or the absolute best at their position, but when they are a Patriot, we root for them. If they choose to remain a Pat for slightly less than they might get from a desperate team, we really appreciate them for that. Like Seymour, Brady, Bruschi, Troy Brown, Matt Light, ect...

If they leave town on good terms, like most Ex-players, we don't hold it against them when they cash in for a big paycheck.

Branch and at least one other player did none of the above. Branch dishonored his contract, held out of camp, allowed his agent to verbally abuse the Patriots in the media, refused to negotiate AT ALL with the Pats, set a bad precident for the other players, drummed up false grievances against the team that put Branch on the map.

Branch is right, he is just a little 5'9" system player without 1000 yards in 4 years.

The reason we can find shortcomings in these guys when they leave town is not that those shortcomings don't exist all along, but that we overlook their shortcomings when they are playing for our team.

You are right that some of the negativity is over the top, just like some of the positivity is over the top when these guys play for the Pats. We are all homers here. ;)

Got to disagree with part of this. The reason that Branch is despicable are really obvious. He DID NOT honor his contract to the Pats, who put him on the map. They drafted him, coached him, and helped him become a SB MVP. He would have made 3 million in incentives this year if he hit his rather meager incentive targets. Like 900 yards. He let his agent crap all over the Pats in the media, while never making a single effort to negotiate with the Pats. He held out of camp, and stated quite clearly that he was not going to play for ten games no matter what. So he was done with us, end of story.

The Pats offered him the top money he wanted, all he had to do was sign the extension and finish his rookie contract.

If you don't get why Branch and his agent have been ruthless and dishonorable throughout this process, then I got nothin'.

I'm with Big Mike on this. Want to talk about classless, 50% of the posters here are classless fans who don't have any objectivity and too much homerism (though the other 50% makes this place worth it). If someone doesn't pick the Pats in March to win the Superbowl they howl and call them a moron, and the way some "fans" treat players that go out the door... it shows a need for those fans to get a life outside of watching football for a lil while. Branch took his money, said nice things about the organization on his way out the door, and from here he's dead to me except when we play against Seattle. No need to take the low road and push his face into the mud. You can always find things to like and hate about a person, but true homers only see the things they like in their team and only see the things they hate in everything else. The true homers know who they are.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to a few choice homers calling me a troll for posting this, that always ends every argument, huh?

Good post, it's just going to be hard. Especially when I see that first highlight of him in a Seahawks uni. Bleh.

For the players, coaches, and owners the NFL is supposed to be a business. They should approach it as such. For the fans, it's very much an emotional attatchment thing. It is and should be different for us and them, IMO.

Try to follow along with your own posts, will ya? Your opinion of him as a PERSON may have changed due to the holdout, but you and everyone else here was continuing to say how good of a player he is, and how valuable to the team he is - up until the trade, where now all of a sudden he's a washed up loser.

You seem to have no idea what you've said in the past, such as in this thread:
http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/showthread.php?t=40436
Where you were calling for the Pats to match Seattle's offer, and saying:
"Right now, they are negotiating a deal to Seattle for maybe a 1st round picks and a middle round pick. OK. That's an acceptable ending. But not a really good one for the Patriots, is it? I mean - why is Seattle willing to do that? Because they have major talent issues at wide receiver, want to be successful, and know Branch is very very good."

So, just over a week ago, he was very, very good according to you, and we should have matched the offer Seattle made, and it wouldn't have been a good deal for the Pats to make the trade - even though you were assuming we'd get a first rounder AND a middle round pick? But now the theme is that he's not all he's cracked up to be, the Pats are better off making the trade, etc.. Try a little consistency for once, eh?

and nobody ever said he was talentless, so again, you are completely wrong.
Sure, nobody has explicitly said that, but it's clearly the theme of what people are thinking. It's been that way with practically everyone who gets traded or cut. Same way with Seau. When Miami signed him, people like you were calling him washed up, etc.. The Pats sign him, and he's the second coming of LT.

but that's ok, there's always a certain percentage of people like you.
Fortunately.

What happend with Branch' son anyways? I think I missed that.

Look, all you need to do is use your eyes to know Branch isn't an elite WR. What happens when Steve Smith gets doubled ? He gets open anyway. What happens with Branch ? Brady has to look elsewhere.

I thought the Patriots overbid at $6M a year and I said it when they made the offer that Branch could have accepted. I wish he was on the team, we would have a better chance this year. But over 5 years we're better with a #1 pick. It's better value than way overpaying Branch.

Just like it was obvious, before we traded him, that Manning was better than Bledsoe, it's clear to anyone that Branch is a good WR, maybe between good and very good. But anyone who thinks now, or when he was a Patriot, that he was an elite WR is fooling themselves.

Ah, I'm a troll now. You people are really pathetic.

Seymour did the same thing - why aren't people calling Seymour a "weasel", "slimy loser", "typical classless jock", and so on? The ONLY difference is that Seymour was successful in his holdout, getting the Pats to fold and give him a new contract. So the ONLY difference between how Seymour and Branch handled their contracts is that Seymour is still a Pat, while Branch was traded. Claiming that you're dissing Branch because of how he handled his contract dispute is clearly wrong, since otherwise you should be saying the same things of Seymour - which nobody is.

Face it, my initial post in this thread was spot on.

It's not just the fact that they left. I'm on here everyday reading and i have NEVER seen anyone say Williie will play bad or call him talentless and selfish.
Willie is a rare exception, as far as people not saying that about him - probably because he played here soooo long, and because he's playing for RC now.

You need to read the posts better and shut your mouth until you actually get it.
You need to go through puberty.

I know i wouldn't say Peyton is the best ever. He is a choke. The pats would never get him. If they did, i would still think it is Montana and Brady.
Sure. The same way people said Seau was washed up when Miami signed him, and are now saying completely different things since the Pats signed him.

but you probably just said that to stir things up... i hope so at least. Otherwise you are lost.
Right. Get a clue.

Sure, I must have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm the one who predicted the PAts would take Watson at 32 in the draft a couple years ago. Was that "trolling"?

CLearly you too must be a troll, like me. How DARE you not join in on ridiculing Branch as soon as he puts on a new uniform!? Get out of here man!

Yup, and it's not clear at all to me why the Pats never offered a longer term deal. Actually, from the articles, it's not clear if they and Branch's agent ever discussed longer term contracts, which is very odd.

Branch is not all of a sudden a bad WR because he left the Patriots, nor is he a bad human being. I would wager 3 months income that nobody in Seattle will complain about him as a teammate either. Well said. Prepare to get crucified here though for saying it.
